Rio contemplates the immense sacrifice required for ascension – losing his remaining humanity to gain god-like power. He views his journey across the Demon Continent as a pilgrimage to help him make this critical choice, a decision the Demon King also subtly influences. Rio prepares to embark on his journey south, seeking a path that might preserve his humanity.

Just a few kilometres southwest of the Forbidden Edge, an ancient tomb was located, where a small Eldor Nomad Tribe had recently established their camp.

In a secluded corner of the camp where the eyes of the guards seldom fell, a group of young Eldor’s was hosting an important meeting for their survival,

"Ratna... Have you come up with a plan yet or not?... We are already so close to the Forbidden Edge; if we don’t find a way out now... we will all be forced to jump off into the ’Sea of Wailing Souls!"

"And we all know what happens afterwards... either you are killed off by the sea or you get caught by those long-eared monsters who hang the corpses of demons on their city walls like trophies!"

Hearing his friends’ words, Ratna, the leader of the group of the young Eldors, couldn’t help but frown,

"Look, I told you a hundred times already, the tribe chief refuses to budge! He’s hell bent on escaping through the Forbidden Edge!"

"Ever since that abominable swarm of parasites started spreading around, the tribe chief seems to have gone even more insane than he already was!"

"If not for the fact that he’s got several a*s-kissers supporting him, I would have already dug his guts out and crowned myself the tribe chief by now!"

At Ratna’s words, the rest of the young Eldors felt helpless and couldn’t find a solution at all.

"Tch, that old tribe chief is already on the verge of rotting dead, and yet he refuses to give the young ones a chance to survive!"

"Ratna, if we can’t really make a way out, we can’t just die willingly like that... we must fight back until the end!"

"Yeah, at least a few of us would be able to make it out alive if we unite our strength and fight together!"

The words of his comrades made Ratna feel relieved, but one look at the camp was enough to make him anxious again.

"It’s not that I am afraid to fight... the problem is that most of the ones that are following the tribe chief are already at least 3 years old, and the chief himself is already five years old!"

"They are all at the edge of their sanity, and miasma has already corroded them to the point their skin has fallen off and their eyes are hanging out like dangling gems!"

"I even doubt that their brains are intact... they are likely all rotten away too, otherwise the tribe chief who used to be so intelligent and cunning wouldn’t make such low-level mistakes!"

Speaking about these things, Ratna could not help but curse his own fate for being born as an ’Eldor.’

The Eldor tribe was part of a Demon Race that had been created by miasma through the corrupted body parts of the Dead Elfs that had died in the Demon Continent over the course of the past two thousand years!

Over the past two thousand years, elves had invaded the Demon Continent, or demons had invaded the elven empire on many occasions; the hatred between the two continents was mutual.

And these long periods of war obviously caused thousands of elves to die over the course of time.

Many a time, situations where the elves could not retrieve their comrades’ bodies arose, and they had to retreat to save their own lives, causing those dead bodies to fall into the hands of miasma.

So miasma did what it does best, it corrupted the dead bodies, analyzed the dead soul fragments, copied the ’DNA,’ and crafted a corrupted, rotted version of ’Elf’ on its own as a pawn.

This new race, born from the rotten ’DNA’ of the dead elves, came to be known as ’Eldors.’

Unlike the Elves, Eldors were ugly from birth; their skins were pale blue and sickly-looking, irregular horns grew all over their bodies randomly, and their height was not even as big as dwarves!

Moreover, their lifespan and natural talent were also nothing compared to a real elf.

Even the longest-lived Eldor was just 7 years old at most, and being an inhabitant of the Demon Continent, they couldn’t even make it past the age of 3 before their brains and souls would get fully corrupted by miasma, causing them to go insane.

All in all, the various Eldor tribes scattered across the Demon Continent were pretty much at the bottom of society in the Demon Continent.

They were weak and short-lived, an ideal prey for most of the other demons.

That’s why the Eldor Tribes were nomads; they rarely ever settled down in one place, and most of their lives were either spent on finding food or on the road to find another shelter from dangers.

Thankfully, miasma had given the Eldors a very amazing gift in return for all these horrific debuffs.

All Eldors were born gifted with exceptional intelligence!

Unlike most low and intermediate-rank demons that usually had negligible or no level of intelligence, the Eldors were gifted with self-consciousness and could already be considered fully grown adults by the age of six months!

They learned quickly and adapted quickly to most environmental threats, and their ugly pale blue skin gave them natural frost resistance that protected them from the freezing weather of the Demon Continent to an extent.

Ratna was one of the many young Eldors in his tribe, but he had already secured his position as the leader of the next generation among his peers with his quick-witted mind and his exceptional intuition.

"To be honest, the threat of the swarm of death parasites is indeed very big, and they have cornered us in this place..."

"Looking at the situation, the only way out is to jump into the sea and hope for the best... trying to fight the death swarm is not easy..."

"But... for some reason, my intuition tells me that fighting the death swarm is actually a better idea."

Hearing Ratna’s words, his friends and comrades frowned, but no one tried to deny his claims.

"That... that’s hard to believe, but... if it’s your intuition... there might be some reason behind it all..."

Seeing his friends’ reaction, Ratna felt less pressured.
