The Demon Extinction War concluded with the sealing of the Miasma Gate, significantly reducing demon invasions. However, the victory came at a great cost, with only King Allen and Astra surviving from the first golden generation. Zain fell victim to the God of Decay's power, while Farim Melok, driven insane by miasma and decay, was eventually put to rest by a combined effort of powerful allies, though many suffered permanent injuries from the God of Decay's power. Ivan, deeply affected by the loss of his students, retired to seclusion to research an ultimate weapon to combat the God of Decay, dedicating himself to combining universal laws with Allen and Bela's help.

"You are really a weird one, Ivan... you are carving your own tombstone when you are still alive?"

Hearing Marik’s question, Ivan, who was busy carving his own tombstone, smiled lightly and replied in a calm voice,

"As I told you before, my ultimate wish is the demise of the ’Sea of Miasma,’ which has caused me so much loss throughout my life..."

"Allen and Bela are both carrying the destiny of destroying the ’sea of miasma.’ I cannot be a part of that destiny, but I can help them on their ’Path’ while also getting my own revenge..."

Ivan stroked the shiny scales of his big snake friend and spoke in a calm voice,

"I have already lived a long long life, Marik. Usually, humans only have a life span of 80-100 years, but due to being a peak SS-ranker, I have lived for almost a thousand years now!"

"A human mind is not built to withstand the burden of such a long life... even if I am a ’Demi-god,’ the huge load of erosion that time has brought to my mind is something that I cannot ignore..."

Ivan had assisted Allen and Bela during the entire thousand-year war; he had watched thousands of his precious students die out in meaningless death.

And now that even his most precious ’sons’ were dead, he could no longer find much meaning in his own life.

To the later generations that would come after them, Ivan Maher would seem like the greatest Archmage of all time who laid the foundation of the entire human empire’s educational society.

But personally, after a thousand years of death and destruction, Ivan was now nothing but a broken man with nothing left to live for and no goals left to aim for.

The only thing he could do now was use this mastery of various magical laws to help Bela and Allen one last time.

"Those two are my most precious friends. I was once nothing but a small beggar; they were the ones who changed my destiny and made me what I am today..."

"Before miasma can degrade my mind and the ’God of Decay’ can destroy my goodwill towards them both, I will decide my own exit from this stage of the world."

Hearing those words, Marik could only sigh.

"Old friend... how do you expect me to keep on living after even you are gone? Almost all the comrades that used to stand by our side have fallen or left..."

"If even you are gone, how do you expect me to resist the corruption of this so-called ’God of Decay’ of yours?"

"How about I go with you? Take me with you, old friend... at least you will have a fellow drinking buddy in the afterlife..."

At Marik’s words, Ivan shook his head, finished writing the epitaph of his tombstone, and walked to the center of the lake of wishes, which was just an empty circular pool.

"The time for me to say farewell is not far, but the same is not true for you, my friend."

"You are a holy beast, a miracle born at the very beginning of mana descent; your existence is like a library of ancient knowledge."

"Over the years, I have imparted my entire knowledge to you. I want you to preserve this knowledge for me and impart it to someone you deem worthy."

"Your existence is like a fail-safe... if in the future, the gamble that I, King Allen, and Bela are trying to pull fails, and the world is plunged into utter darkness..."

"I want you to pass on this torch of hope to the next generation for me and for us..."

As Ivan sat down in a lotus position, the look on his face revealed calmness and peace as if he had already made all amends in life and had nothing left to regret.

"I am about to try something that might cause my destruction, but whatever I might gain from this, I will surely relay it all to you. Please tell Allen and Bela about it on my behalf..."

"And if they fail too, then give this knowledge to whoever you chose to be the next beacon of hope for this dying world..."

"Can you do it for me, Marik?"

Hearing Ivan’s words, the big snake closed its gigantic eyes as if it was taking its time to adjust its mentality.

It took great strength and determination for Marik to finally come to terms with Ivan’s words, and he nodded his head.

"Fine, if you want to go, go with confidence; I have got your back!"

"In the future, I will guard this tomb of yours! and whoever comes to seek your knowledge, I shall bear witness to it all!"

"I will relay your message to King Allen and Lady Astra... you can head into the afterlife without worries..."

"When the day comes... I will surely join you in the afterlife sooner or later... hehe, then we can sit down once again and chat about the old times..."

Hearing those words of assurance from Marik, the smile on Ivan’s face widened and his shoulders completely relaxed.

"Good..."

"If I told my plan to Allen and Bela, they would surely not let me do this... but I am already too tired of this endless cycle of death and destruction... all I wish for now is but peace..."

"I hope my sacrifice will bring even a little bit of peace to this dying world... I hope the future generations will not have to live their entire lives fighting a meaningless endless war like us..."

"Thank you for everything... Marik..."

After looking at the colorful world one last time, Ivan closed his weary eyes and chose to end his ’Path’ in search of the ’Truth.’
