After a difficult battle, Ashtel despairs over his defeat, but Rio offers words of encouragement, reminding him of the need for a leader to remain strong. Ashtel resolves to improve himself, realizing his lack of a legendary skill was his downfall against the Demon King. Rio explains that while difficult, legendary skills can be acquired through immense determination, like Riya's, or through risky temporary manifestations, like Professor Jin's, though he advises against the latter due to severe consequences.

After Rio’s persuasion, Ashtel stopped mentioning the topic of legendary skills as Rio warned him to not think about forcing matters like this.

These kinds of problems can’t be solved through recklessness; there is a need for a delicate balance, control, and understanding of the various aspects of the ’laws’ of the world to even become qualified to have a legendary skill.

Even Rio himself has never managed to awaken a second legendary skill until now despite being so overwhelmingly talented.

’I truly envy King Allen Von Reinhart for being able to utilize both ’Dao Rhythm’ and ’Sword Intent’ at the same time...’

Just possessing one legendary skill was already a miraculous feat, and barely anyone could achieve it; having two at the same time was simply unheard of and was considered almost impossible until King Allen proved it to be possible.

Since the age of mana descent, only King Allen has managed to awaken two legendary skills at the same time to this day.

"Putting the topic of strength and skills aside, let’s talk about you..."

Ashtel stared into Rio’s eyes and asked in a solemn tone,

"I don’t want to doubt you or anything of the sort, but... can you please tell me why the Demon King retreated voluntarily after you interfered with our battle?"

"Moreover, he was clamouring to talk to you before too when he suddenly came to the human empire during Operation Hydra too..."

"What sort of conversation would a Demon King have with a person of a completely different race that he has never even met before?"

As he was too busy dealing with other stuff related to the alliance and disaster aftermath, Ashtel hadn’t had time to have a proper chat with Rio until now.

Only now that he had some spare time at hand did he finally choose to ask Rio about the matter of him meeting with the Demon King.

It wasn’t that Ashtel doubted whether Rio would collude with the Demon King to do harm to the world.

He only asked this question mainly because the position of the leader of a race obliged him to know about everything that could pose a threat to the human race!

"Actually... as you can likely already sense, I am not too far from reaching the realm of Demi-gods..."

"In fact, I have already taken half a step into the next realm, and the only reason I am not advancing right now is because I am suppressing my breakthrough..."

"During the battle, you were immobilised, and the Demon King was about to take your life. To make him retreat, I had no other choice but to make a deal with him..."

Rio wasn’t going to tell Ashtel the entire truth, of course, as him being a reincarnator was the biggest secret of his life, and if possible, Rio would prefer not to tell anyone about it.

The Demon King found out about him being an anomaly through his legendary skill and realised that Rio’s soul was something completely incompatible with the rest of the universe,

That’s why the Demon King had made various speculations about Rio’s origins, but even he didn’t know Rio’s true backstory.

Rio naturally didn’t want to reveal all this to anyone, not even Lia, so obviously he wasn’t going to tell Ashtel about it either.

Thus, to make his story seem a bit more believable, Rio had to create a believable false scenario of what had happened.

"As you know, the Demon King can control and see the power of the strings of destinies like Lia, but at a bigger scale, he saw my strings of destinies and saw great potential in me..."

"He wanted to talk me into becoming a cooperator and benefactor of the Demon race, as I also have miasma control..."

"To save your life, I made a deal with him. I asked him to retreat and wait."

Rio stared into Ashtel’s eyes and continued,

"I asked him to wait for my ’choice.’ I will go to visit the demon empire, tour it once, and then make my final ’Choice’..."

"Right now even I don’t know whether I would choose to side with mana, miasma or make my own new ’Path’..."

Ashtel was too stunned to speak after hearing those words; he had never expected that just to save his life, Rio would have had to take such a big risk and make such a big gamble.

Although Rio’s words seem to imply that he was conflicted and might even choose to side with miasma, Ashtel was not too concerned about that.

He has known Rio for a long time now, and Ashtel was one hundred percent sure that no matter what choice Rio would make, he would never go down the path of degeneration as long as Lia existed!

The main reason why Rio had never been put under suspicion until this day despite showcasing his weird skills to the world over and over was because of his overwhelming love and protectiveness for Lia.

His love for Lia showed that he was not consumed by miasma despite being able to control it so thoroughly and was always in a clear-headed state of mind.

To the human race and the rest of the world, Lia was like a protective charm that kept Rio anchored to his humanity and restrained him from making any wrong choices despite not having much emotion left inside of him.

She was the biggest insurance against anything going wrong with Rio!

"Did he bind you with some kind of soul contract? Is it really a must that you go to the demon continent? What if it’s a trick of his to capture you?"

Hearing those words, Rio just shook his head.

"I can’t go back on my words now that I have already made a promise; otherwise a new demon army invasion will be triggered for no reason, and this time, the Demon King won’t stop even after being persuaded..."

"As for him capturing me... he could have done that back then when you were immobilised and I was confronting him alone."

"For now, he only wants to negotiate and talk... But of course, I won’t place all my bets on him being rational..."

"I have a plan..."
