Reborn as an Extra Chapter 765: A World’s Demise. Part-1.
Previously on Reborn as an Extra...
"This is peculiar... they aren't injured in the slightest..."
"Illusions or mental assaults inflict damage to the mind, but... their minds are intact, only suffering extreme agitation for some unknown reason..."
Lia and Link were both positioned on two crudely constructed beds, yet for some inexplicable reason, neither showed any signs of awakening.
Even Riya, recognized as one of the most skilled healers, found herself at a loss concerning their condition.
"Uh... if you permit me, I could offer my assistance."
"I can sense intense mental waves and fluctuations in their sea of consciousness, acting erratically. As a psychic, I should be capable of aiding in this situation."
Yasna, now appearing considerably healthier than her earlier weakened state, stepped forward to propose her help.
"You have all aided my people in surviving a catastrophe; offering my assistance to heal your injuries is the least I can do for you..."
Upon hearing Yasna's words, Riya exhibited hesitation.
'Psychic' was a rare class, and Riya had no knowledge of the abilities this class bestowed upon Yasna.
The possibility existed that Yasna possessed the power to alter minds and manipulate thoughts.
Riya was unwilling for anyone to tamper with Lia and Link's minds whatsoever.
While Yasna was extending aid, Riya had only recently encountered her, making trust a difficult matter.
Furthermore, Riya was unaware that Rio also had the capacity to sway people's thoughts by manipulating souls, and she worried that if Yasna implanted any misguided notions into Lia and Link's minds, no one would be able to detect or rectify them.
"Uh... this... I-I can vouch for Link and permit you to attend to his mind, but... I am not in a position to allow you to interfere with Lia’s mind... only Rio can make that decision for her-"
Before Riya could complete her statement, a sudden disturbance erupted within the settlement as dozens of half-orcs inexplicably collapsed to the ground, their bodies beginning to disintegrate into dust!
"Wh- what is occurring!?"
Yasna observed the village elder, who abruptly relinquished the staff symbolizing his position to her before succumbing to the ground!
And right before everyone's gaze, his body turned to dust, vanishing completely from existence!
"I-is it an enemy assault!?"
"But isn't Rio currently engaged with the enemy!? Could it be another foe!?"
Just as Yasna and Riya began to panic, an emotionless voice resonated within the tent.
"There is no need for alarm. This is not an assault; it is the consequence of their destinies being plundered..."
Riya hastily glanced back, noticing that Rio had materialized beside Lia without their sensing his approach.
His uncanny ability to appear and disappear without warning was nothing new to Riya, so she disregarded it and refocused on her pressing question.
"What do you mean by ‘The consequence of having their destinies plundered’ as you put it?"
Rio gently stroked Lia’s face, causing the frown on her brow to soften slightly, and spoke with his characteristic lack of emotion.
"Just as Lia frequently explains, all entities within the universe are intrinsically linked to the cosmic order through the manipulation of destiny's threads."
"All beings, and even inanimate objects like stones and sand, are similarly bound by these same threads of fate. These threads of destiny function as an 'anchor,' stabilizing you within the universe and its natural order..."
"Should these so-called 'Anchors' be severed for any reason, one would lose their connection to the natural cosmic order and consequently cease to exist within the universe..."
A look of distress crossed Riya's face as she observed the decaying tribe of half-orcs and inquired,
"Why is this happening in the first place?"
To this query, Rio's response was direct and devoid of embellishment.
"Raika utilized a forbidden altar and employed a sorcery akin to Alverto's, attempting to harness Fade as a conduit to sequester all the planet's fortune."
"The primary catalyst for this entire planet's gradual disintegration is also rooted in the severing of its universal 'anchor,' and this planet has limited time before its complete dissolution..."
"Although my prowess in manipulating the strings of destiny has not yet reached Lia's level, even I can discern that remaining on this planet is inadvisable... the half-orc tribe must depart this world if they are to survive..."
Yasna was rendered speechless by Rio's revelations.
She was unfamiliar with Rio, having never met him, but Riya treated him as an ally, leading Yasna to refrain from any objections. However, the news that her home planet was on the verge of collapse was profoundly unsettling.
"I- is there no means to preserve this planet and my people?"
Addressing Yasna's question, Rio simply shook his head.
"Lia and I possess the ability to manipulate the strings of destiny to a certain degree, but we are not omnipotent; we cannot forge new threads of destiny for you..."
"Naturally, I possess a method to relocate your entire people from this doomed world. A significant portion might perish due to the severance of their destiny threads, but a number will undoubtedly endure..."
Raika, before his demise, had only managed to assimilate approximately half of the destiny strings pertaining to the orc tribe. Upon Riaka's death, the remnants of his forbidden magic's hold fractured, triggering the commencement of the massacre within the half-orc settlement.
This catastrophic event was utterly irreversible. Not even Rio could undo such profound forbidden magic, a dark art forged through the immense sacrifice of fate and destiny.
"Your designation is Yasna, and you possess a seldom-seen class known as 'Psychic,' is that correct? You will attend to Link and Lia; I shall provide the necessary support while Riya maintains their vital signs."
"As soon as these two regain consciousness, I will facilitate the teleportation of your people away from this dying planet..."
Rio, with his innate soul manipulation capabilities, could have restored both Lia's and Link's minds independently. However, he preferred to keep these extraordinary abilities concealed from all eyes for the present, unless an absolute necessity arose.
Fortunately, a 'psychic' was present at the location. Therefore, Rio found no immediate need to unveil his closely guarded secrets.
