The parents, Big Brother Kang and Cai Xiufang, stop their children from arguing about filial piety. They tell them that their greatest filial piety is to take care of their own families and succeed. After the siblings are dismissed, Kang Guosheng asks Kang Li about the cost of her village development projects, and she assures him she can afford it due to her successful factory.

Oh right, Big Brother, Second Brother, Fourth Brother, and Little Brother, you all can think it over too, but there’s something I have to say up front—even though the factory’s mine, I’m still hiring people to manage it. In other words,

I won’t be involved in the daily management. If you guys decide to invest later, when it comes to company decisions, you won’t have a say, either."

In just a moment, Kang Li didn’t see any strange expression on the faces of Big Brother Kang and the others. She nodded to herself and spoke again: "To put it simply, you’ll just be receiving dividends. Whether you want them quarterly or annually, you can decide yourselves."

"Li Bao, you’re giving Second Brother and Little Brother a chance to get rich here. That’s very thoughtful of you. Since you’ve already said all this, Second Brother appreciates it. Let me give you a definite answer right now—Second Brother will invest, and I’ll thank you on behalf of your nephews, too!"

Big Brother runs a chain of hotpot restaurants in the North City. Third Brother and Fourth Brother are back in our hometown—one runs a clothing shop, the other a transport company. These days, all five brothers have their own households. If we’re talking about financial strength, me and Little Five can’t compare with Big Brother, Third Brother, or Fourth Brother.

Why?

He and Little Five just earn regular salaries, maybe an occasional bonus at most.

But Big Brother, Third Brother, and Fourth Brother, just one day’s sales from their businesses could be equal to a month of his paycheck.

All in all, doing business makes more money, but it comes with risks. He’s not jealous of his own brothers, and he figures Little Five feels the same way.

Now, his younger sister is offering him a way to make money—not for himself, but just for the sake of those little rascals at home, he’d grab this opportunity regardless.

Kang Guoan said, "Li Bao, what Second Brother said goes for me too. Thank you. I’ll bring you the money soon."

"No rush."

Kang Li smiled, then heard Big Brother Kang say, "Li Bao, maybe I’ll sit this one out. Me and your sister-in-law are busy with our hotpot place, and we were planning to follow that plan you made for us, expand the chain into other cities. Doing that, we might not have much left to invest."

"Just talk it over with your sister-in-law. The more you invest, the bigger your share of the dividends; the less you invest, the less you get. That’s just how investments work—sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and there’s always risk. It’s not urgent; I just wanted to mention it today. Whether or not to buy in is all up to you guys."

She turned her gaze from Big Brother Kang to Third Brother Kang,

then to Fourth Brother Kang. Kang Li said, "Third Brother, Fourth Brother, don’t overthink it, and don’t feel pressured. Just talk it through among yourselves and let me know your decisions."

At last, Kang Li looked at Captain Kang. "Dad, in a few days, invite my eldest uncle and little uncle over to our house. I’ll talk to them too, see if they want to invest."

Captain Kang nodded. He knew his daughter wanted to help out the eldest and third branches of the family.

Cai Xiufang didn’t say a word.

Her daughter was capable and wanted to help out her eldest uncle’s and little uncle’s families. That made her proud—why would she object?

Unable to hold it in, Kang Li covered her mouth to hide a yawn and then said, "I’m off to bed."

Captain Kang: "Go on."

Kang Li stood up, said goodnight to Cai Xiufang and Big Brother Kang, put on her shoes by the kang, and walked out of the room.

"Dad, Mom, Li Bao... Li Bao has done so much for all of us!"

Hearing Kang Li’s footsteps fade away, Big Brother Kang said, "If my hotpot restaurant could grow to this scale, most of the credit goes to Li Bao."

Third Brother Kang and Fourth Brother Kang were about to say something, but before they could, Captain Kang’s voice rang out: "You two don’t need to say anything. Since you know Li Bao has always had her brothers’ backs, just remember her kindness, and when she needs you in the future, make sure you look out for her."

He glanced at Kang Guosheng, then at Kang Guoan, and continued, "And you two—maybe Li Bao didn’t help you the way she helped Big Brother, Third Brother, and Fourth Brother, but she’s been just as good to you."

Kang Guoan: "I know."

Kang Guosheng: "Dad, you don’t need to keep saying it. Everything Li Bao has done for us brothers—I, as Second Brother, have always kept it in mind."

He only has one little sister. Except for when she got married—when he and his wife went to North City and gave her a big wedding present—it’s been mostly Li Bao helping him, her Second Brother, all these years.

Plus, the big gift he gave was a black-and-white TV, but then he got a big color TV from his sister.

Honestly, when he carried that color TV home from the post office, it didn’t feel good inside.

He just kept thinking, as a brother, he hadn’t taken care of his sister much. Instead, it’s always been his sister supporting him—she’d keep sending stuff for their whole family. Sure, people in the family compound would envy him for having such a great sister, but he’s her big brother, not a younger brother—how can he always rely on a sister ten years younger than him?

But then again, he couldn’t deny it—Li Bao, his little sister, really had the means to support him, her Second Brother. If he turned down the things she mailed every time, that would just put distance between them as siblings.

Besides, those care packages she sent—she never wrote that they were just for him, but always sent things for the kids and his wife, too.

That made it even harder to refuse them.

Luckily, He Hui—his wife—also often bought local specialties, and sometimes bought clothes for her nephew and niece to mail to North City. Otherwise, when facing his sister, he’d probably be too ashamed to look her in the eye as Second Brother.

But really, sometimes you can’t keep score too strictly within siblings. It takes away all the warmth.

Take tonight, for example.

Kang Guosheng figured that since Kang Li had already said she wanted to give Second Brother a hand, if he refused, he’d seem ungrateful and maybe even let her down.

After all, as far as Kang Guosheng is concerned, Kang Li doesn’t need the little bit of money they’d contribute to open a clothing factory.

Dig a bit deeper—even asking if the brothers want to invest, then asking if Uncle and Little Uncle’s families want to join, it’s clear Kang Li just wants to help the whole old Kang family get more prosperous.

To put it bluntly, she’s handing them all money.

She’s capable, full of ideas, decisive, and has great vision. If she says she’s starting a clothing factory, there’s no way it’ll flop.

It’s not that Kang Guosheng just blindly trusts Kang Li—it’s that everything she’s done over the years has earned his trust.

Besides, Kang Guosheng is regarded as someone important in his own field, too. He knows how to judge people.

Not to mention, apart from Kang Li’s own abilities, she’s got the huge Kang Group backing her!

"Alright, alright, let’s all get to bed. Tomorrow morning we’ll do some cleaning up and then head to your uncle’s place to help get things ready for the guests."

Cai Xiufang lifted the blanket, picked up the kang broom, and swept the kang. In a flash, all the brothers got off the kang too.

"Dad, Mom, we’re heading out now."

The five brothers put on their shoes and looked toward Captain Kang and Cai Xiufang.

"What, if you stay any longer you want me and your dad to see you off?"

Hearing Cai Xiufang say that, Big Brother Kang shook his head, and Kang Guosheng and the others did the same. A moment later, one by one, they all left.

"It used to be just Little Five who talked a lot among the older kids, but now, seems like they’ve all turned chatty."
