Shen Yun is shocked to learn that Kang Li gave birth to triplets abroad and that Luo Yanqing may have accompanied her during her confinement. Meanwhile, Kang Li presents her father with blueprints for a new home appliance factory, a gift for his new company. The next day, Xiao Jin arranges a meeting between Austin and Jian, leaving them to interact.

Upon hearing Austin’s words, Jian’s initial reaction was to shake his head, but then he nodded, stating, “I have a recollection, though it’s quite faint.”

“Are you content living with your mother?” Austin inquired, his expression unwavering, yet a sharp pang of bitterness struck his heart. He, the child’s father, should have been the closest person in Jian’s life. Yet, after mere years apart, his son now regarded him almost as a stranger.

Jian’s fair and delicate features remained impassive. After a prolonged silence, he gave a slight nod, but Austin detected a flicker of indecision in his eyes.

“Would you like to stay with Daddy? If you’re willing, I’ll take you away from Mom and bring you back to the home where you were born…”

Jian’s response came swiftly, a shake of his head before Austin could finish. He was aware of his biological father and that Mr. Xiao was the man his mother had married later. However, he had resided in his mother’s country for several years. Despite his mother’s limited attention, he had his sister, Xiao Tong, his brother, Xiao Xuan, along with friends and classmates. Furthermore, Mr. Xiao treated him with kindness, and he could feel Xiao’s affection.

“Perhaps you might reconsider? I’ll be here for a couple of days. You can let me know your decision before I depart.” Austin’s desire to take his son, Jian, with him was strong, but he refused to compel the boy. After all, if Jian was unwilling, their father-son relationship would likely suffer even if he were taken away. He might even foster resentment. Recognizing this, Austin was determined not to relinquish his efforts.

“... I like it here,” Jian replied after a moment of silence.

As time trickled by, Austin observed Jian quietly for a spell. He then stood, opened a large suitcase, and beckoned Jian over. “These are gifts I purchased for you. Have a look and see if you like them.”

“Mm,” Jian acknowledged with a nod.

“Have you always been this way?” Austin’s gaze held a trace of curiosity. “Not inclined to converse with those around you, preferring to keep to yourself?”

“I…” Jian’s lips moved slightly, but no further words followed.

Austin then inquired, “Are Ming Han and Ming Wei your friends?”

Jian’s initial reaction was surprise, followed by a nod. Noticing the bewilderment in his son’s eyes, Austin offered a gentle smile. “Your Aunt Kang, the mother of Ming Han and Ming Wei, assisted me in selecting these gifts. She was confident you would find them appealing.” Patting Jian’s hair, Austin closed the suitcase, and said, “Regardless of your choice to accompany me, I hope you will ponder it further.” With that, Austin placed a light hand on Jian’s shoulder. “Come, Daddy will take you out for a lavish meal.”

Jian remained silent initially.

The father and son indulged in a sumptuous lunch before returning to the hotel. In the mid-afternoon, Xiao Jin arrived to escort Jian home from the hotel. The specifics of Austin and Jian’s conversation remained exclusively between them.

Xiao Jin had not anticipated facing his wife, Shen Yun’s, fury upon returning home with Jian.

“Did you let my son meet with some shady individuals?”

Xiao Jin was taken aback. Shady individuals? Mr. Davis was Jian’s biological father; how could he be deemed shady? Furthermore, was there any prohibition against taking his son to meet his father? Xiao Jin felt a sense of unease. “Although your relationship with Jian’s biological father has long concluded, he remains Jian’s father – a truth that cannot be denied. And I took Jian to meet his biological father…”

“Who sanctioned this? By what right did you do this?” Shen Yun’s eyes blazed as she interrupted Xiao Jin.

“If you must know, an individual from the relevant department contacted me and requested that I arrange for Jian to meet Mr. Davis.” Xiao Jin’s tone remained level, his expression calm. He possessed a composed demeanor. “With children present, it is not conducive for parents to argue; you should manage your emotions.”

Saying this, Xiao Jin gestured for Jian to retire to his room to read, while he himself headed toward the study. Shen Yun followed close behind.

“He intends to contest Jian with me, to take him away from me, do you not understand?” As they entered the study, Shen Yun, mindful of her image and unwilling for Jian to witness their argument, closed the study door before unleashing her temper on Xiao Jin.
