Ming Wei: "..." Is that not permitted?
As if sensing her thoughts, Min Rui stated earnestly, "Being an actor is a profession too. The films and television shows they create provide us ordinary folks with spiritual and cultural enrichment. Once you're involved, it's not merely for amusement."
"Big brother, I meant it's interesting because I'm genuinely interested in becoming an actor, not in the way you're envisioning," Ming Wei replied, feeling a touch slighted. "Mom always said that all jobs, regardless of their standing, serve the people. When I grow up, I won't make light of any profession."
Upon hearing this, Min Rui nodded, conveying his belief in her words, and then added, "As long as you understand."
"Big brother, what do you aspire to do in the future?"
Ming Han suddenly inquired of his elder brother, Min Rui.
"..." He pressed his lips together, remaining silent for a considerable duration. Just as Ming Han and Ming Wei began to think their brother Min Rui wouldn't answer, Min Rui slightly parted his lips and declared, "A diplomat."
"Is it because of Mom?"
Ming Han hadn't forgotten that after their beloved mother graduated from university, an individual from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended an invitation for her to work there, even maintaining her name on their roster.
"I find the profession of a diplomat appealing. Naturally, a portion of that is influenced by Mom," Min Rui responded sincerely.
At this juncture, Ming Wei interjected, "Big brother, second brother, do you truly believe there are people in our courtyard gossiping about Mom?"
"There are all sorts of birds in a large forest..."
Before Ming Han could conclude his sentence, Min Rui cut him off: "What kind of talk is that?"
Ming Han defended himself, "I'm not mistaken."
"What you mean isn't incorrect, but is that something a child like you should be saying?" Min Rui's brows furrowed. "If Mom found out, she would certainly lecture you."
"Mom wouldn't do that!"
Ming Han scoffed lightly, turned his head away, and ceased conversing with his brother Min Rui, yet he still voiced, "The women in our courtyard are of various characters, especially those with less education—they might speak ill of Mom in front of us."
Ming Wei exclaimed, "Auntie Su next door definitely will! She's always causing trouble for Mom!"
Ming Han chimed in, "She didn't even give birth to Wen Peng."
Ming Wei responded, "Oh yes, Auntie Su did give birth to Wen Peng..."
Min Rui stated, "Speak as little as possible. Regardless of whether Auntie Su gave birth to Wen Peng or not, she isn't kind to Wen Yue and her sisters. Can our Mom be compared to her?"
"Big brother, I wasn't suggesting Mom is like Auntie Su. I'm saying Auntie Su might speak ill of Mom in our presence," Ming Wei, with her delicate little face, said seriously. "I dislike Auntie Su; she's too mean!"
Min Rui inquired, "If she speaks ill, will you listen?"
"Of course not." Without a moment's hesitation, Ming Wei shook her head decisively.
"Then don't mention her," Min Rui declared, shifting his gaze to his younger brother, then to his sister Ming Wei. He continued, "Dad spoke with us, and I have no doubts because I know Mom always speaks from the heart."
Ming Han added, "I won't be affected either. Besides, Bun and the others are our younger siblings. I like little brothers and sisters, and I certainly won't let a few idle words spoil my mood."
"I love Mom, and I trust her. I won't listen to anyone badmouthing her."
After hearing Ming Wei's declaration, Min Rui paused, lips pressed together in thought for a moment, and then stated, "Remember our discussion. If anyone allows their focus to waver and it impacts their studies, I will definitely take action."
"We promise to uphold our word!"
Ming Han and Ming Wei stood up, side by side, their small faces serious as they made their vow.
It was approximately three in the afternoon.
Cai Xiufen and Captain Kang, along with Min Rui and the other two children, saw Luo Yanqing off at the courtyard gate, watching as he departed in a jeep.
"Grandma, Grandpa, I'm going to play outside for a bit before returning," Ming Han announced.
"Grandma, Grandpa, I'll play outside too," Ming Wei said in turn.
"Alright, you may play outside," Cai Xiufen replied, her gaze turning towards Min Rui, accompanied by Captain Kang.
"I'll go home and read," Min Rui stated, proceeding into the courtyard with Cai Xiufen and Captain Kang.
"Vivi, did your Grandma and Grandpa return from visiting your Mom abroad?!" Under the shade of the old banyan tree, Wen Yi spotted Ming Wei approaching and couldn't help but ask with a smile.
"Yes," Ming Wei nodded, a playful smile gracing her lips. "Guess how many little babies my Mom had all at once?"
"Two!" Wen Yi deduced that since Ming Wei invited her to guess, Aunt Kang must have given birth to more than one child, so she confidently offered her answer.
