Reborn Aristocrat: Oppressing Chapter 1979
Don't seek death.
Xu Weixiao gazed at Mo Zixi standing at the doorway.
Her earlier words had been a warning aimed at Xu Weimiao, yet now she sensed that she herself was truly courting disaster.
She pressed her lips together firmly.
Right then, she stared blankly at Mo Zixi. His abrupt arrival at the door made her suddenly recall her own outburst.
He must have caught it.
She had yelled it out so loudly.
Her emotions had overwhelmed her completely.
She simply couldn't fathom why Xu Weimiao remained so obstinate.
All she desired was to shield her sister and their family. So why did Xu Weimiao insist on being so unyielding!
Family had always meant everything to her, more than anything else.
But at this instant…
It felt like she was burying herself alive.
She forced a smile onto her face, pretending utter ignorance. In a forced, cheerful tone, she remarked, “Zixi, why are you back so soon? Did you forget something?”
“A storm hit Sears country today. All flights are grounded. We can't depart tomorrow morning. The storm should persist for a full day there. I'll head out the day after,” Mo Zixi replied flatly, showing no trace of emotion, as though her previous words had escaped his ears entirely. He responded to her with steady calm.
“Oh, got it.” Xu Weimiao grinned. “I just woke up, and my sister dropped by. We quarreled over some trivial matter moments ago. It was just heated talk. Don't let it bother you.”
She avoided repeating those damning words. Xu Weimiao yearned to bury the incident right there. Nobody needed to relive that ugliness!
“Alright,” Mo Zixi answered softly.
“You're awake awfully early. Why not lie down and catch some more rest?”
Mo Zixi gave a nod.
“Then my sister and I will step out for now. You rest up.” Xu Weimiao smiled. “Oh, and I'll see Xiao Xiao off shortly. She only came to check on me. She'll be heading out soon.”
Xu Weimiao's smug grin instantly soured Mo Zixi's expression.
Though Mo Zixi showed little outward reaction, his mood had clearly soured. No matter the circumstances, hearing his wife declare her dislike for him would dampen anyone's spirits. She seemed thrilled to pull away from them, even if she hadn't anticipated his return. This felt like divine intervention aiding her cause. From birth, fate had destined her to claim Mo Zixi, securing her triumphant life!
Yet now, upon hearing Xu Weimiao plan to usher her out, Xu Weixiao's spirits plummeted.
She shot Xu Weimiao a venomous glare. Witnessing her fawning over Mo Zixi only fueled her irritation.
“Xiao Xiao, it's not often you visit the capital. Since she misses your company, let her remain here with you. I'm off overseas tomorrow anyway. She can keep you occupied these next few days,” Mo Zixi suggested, his tone still mild and composed. “Besides, with your pregnancy, you won't feel so lonely.”
“Are you truly expecting?” Xu Weixiao probed.
Xu Weimiao had intended to conceal this from Xu Weixiao.
But Mo Zixi had brought it up abruptly.
Xu Weimiao nibbled her lower lip.
“Are you really pregnant?” Malice flickered in Xu Weixiao's eyes.
Her visit aimed to verify Xu Weimiao's pregnancy status. Last time, overhearing Xu Weimiao and Mo Yinan's bathroom chat had unsettled her deeply. She hadn't gleaned more after that and had subtly quizzed her parents, who knew nothing of it. She'd dismissed it as her imagination. Recently, catching her father's offhand remark about the commander-in-chief's week abroad sparked her scheme. She convinced her mother to join her in visiting her sister.
Of course, not to support her—but to gauge her sister's dynamic with Mo Zixi.
Evidently,
Xu Weimiao had deliberately withheld her pregnancy news from her.
She'd believed Xu Weimiao cared for her deep down. Even after taking everything, she wouldn't harm her and might even fund her endeavors. Reflecting now, Xu Weimiao proved more self-serving than herself. Once she grasped her desires, she'd share nothing.
Those comforting words earlier were mere facade. How could she trust them!
Fortunately,
Xu Weimiao's scheming had backfired spectacularly. Mo Zixi overheard it all. She had it coming!
“Yes, nearly three months along.” Xu Weimiao ceased hiding it.
“Congratulations.” Xu Weixiao offered false praise. “Congrats to brother-in-law as well. Fatherhood awaits you soon.”
“Thanks.” Mo Zixi inclined his head slightly, coming off rather aloof.
“Let's head out first. Rest well, Zixi,” Xu Weimiao urged.
Mo Zixi rose and entered the bathroom.
Xu Weimiao led Xu Weixiao outside.
As they exited, Xu Weimiao closed the door behind them.
She lifted her gaze toward Xu Weixiao.
Xu Weixiao grinned victoriously. “Mo Zixi told me to stay. What does that signify to you?”
“It signifies you're seeking death,” Xu Weimiao declared syllable by syllable.
“Sister, just confess it. You're terrified I'll snatch Mo Zixi from you,” Xu Weixiao cackled maniacally. “And fearing it won't help. Mo Zixi belongs to me in the end.”
Xu Weimiao gazed at her sister and the look on her face.
She truly sensed that arguing further would prove pointless.
She spun around and departed.
Xu Weixiao watched Xu Weimiao's retreating figure, then glanced at the firmly closed door.
One day, she would surely rest in that chamber.
..
Inside the bedroom.
Mo Zixi rested motionless on the bed.
Heavy rains overseas had grounded the flights today, forcing his return.
He had come back for some rest, hoping to enjoy a pleasant day alongside Xu Weimiao.
“I don’t need to be like this for a man I don’t love and my own sister!”
Those words echoed relentlessly in his mind.
A sudden smile crossed his lips.
Who knew his emotions could stir like this.
And so intensely.
He quietly observed the shifts within his heart.
For quite a while.
The door creaked open softly.
Mo Zixi kept his eyes shut, feigning sleep.
A faint rustle sounded bedside. A familiar presence drew near, aiding him in removing the suit and tie he still wore.
He opened his eyes.
Xu Weimiao offered a soft smile. “Sorry if I disturbed you. I figured undressing would help you sleep better.”
He shut his eyes once more.
Fear gripped him that he might confuse her with another.
Yet this was unmistakably the genuine Xu Weimiao right now.
Xu Weimiao removed his suit, tie, and socks, then tucked him under the covers. “Rest well. I'll rouse you after lunch.”
Mo Zixi remained silent.
Xu Weimiao bent down and pressed a kiss to his forehead.
Mo Zixi tightened his lips.
The instant Xu Weimiao rose to go.
Mo Zixi abruptly seized her hand.
Xu Weimiao froze, staring at him.
Shock flashed in her eyes for that moment, yet she smiled right after. “What's up, Zixi?”
“Nothing.” Mo Zixi released her.
Xu Weimiao's brows furrowed faintly. Mo Zixi had clearly wanted to speak earlier.
Why had he halted so suddenly then.
She longed to inquire, but noticed Mo Zixi rolling over, facing away.
Xu Weimiao let out a quiet sigh.
She stood and exited.
No matter their mutual respect or careful handling of feelings, cracks in their bond kept widening.
Xu Weimiao stepped out of the room. Xu Weixiao lounged on the sofa, smirking coldly at her. “Did you slip in there to fawn over him?”
Xu Weimiao disregarded her sister.
“Truth is, I've long believed that even if I'd confessed my feelings for Mo Zixi before your marriage, you wouldn't have yielded him to me,” Xu Weixiao snarled at Xu Weimiao.
“Xu Weixiao, for our sisterhood, I'll warn you once more: get out of here now!”
“Quit pretending you're looking out for me like some wise elder sister. I can't stomach it,” Xu Weixiao mocked.
Xu Weimiao pressed her lips together, holding back words.
All morning, with Mo Zixi home, Xu Weimiao and Xu Weixiao avoided open clashes. In his view, they stayed as sisters, so they pretended harmony like close companions.
Post-lunch, Mo Zixi departed for the National Government Hall.
That afternoon, Xu Weimiao attended prenatal classes, leaving no chance to confront Xu Weixiao, who relished the peace amid the silence.
Come evening, Mo Zixi skipped dinner. Xu Weimiao phoned the secretary for details. The secretary assured her Mo Zixi had tasks to handle and would manage his meals, so no need for concern.
At the dinner table.
Seeing Mo Zixi absent, Xu Weixiao sneered, “Since your pregnancy, this is how Mo Zixi treats you. How vital do you fancy yourself in his heart? You're merely a vessel for his lineage.”
“None of your concern,” Xu Weimiao replied icily.
Xu Weixiao chuckled. “Naturally. I'm merely enjoying the spectacle.”
Xu Weimiao said no more, retreating to her room after the meal.
Xu Weixiao eyed her sister's silhouette.
Her sibling's slim figure showed no hint of pregnancy, narrowing Xu Weixiao's gaze.
After eating, Xu Weixiao returned to her room, showered, donned pajamas, and reemerged to lounge on the living room sofa, flipping on the television.
Night deepened.
Xu Weixiao checked the clock. Where was Mo Zixi?
She compressed her lips.
Would Mo Zixi stay out overnight?
Even though this idea stirred an inexplicable thrill within her, as she truly longed to see Mo Zixi, she still wished for his return.
Harboring this notion.
She glanced at the clock, noting it had passed midnight. Convinced Mo Zixi wouldn't return, she intended to head back to her room for sleep. Suddenly, Mo Zixi entered from outside. He spotted Xu Weixiao and appeared somewhat surprised, yet he pressed on directly toward the bedroom.
“Brother-in-law.” Xu Weixiao advanced and obstructed his path.
Mo Zixi regarded her with icy detachment.
“Brother-in-law, I know you don’t wish to see me, but I've waited for you all evening. You permitted me to stay with my sister today. I'm delighted and wish to express my thanks,” Xu Weixiao murmured softly.
“No need,” Mo Zixi replied frostily.
“Brother-in-law, have you been drinking?” Xu Weixiao keenly observed his flushed face and the subtle scent of alcohol and smoke clinging to him.
“I had matters to handle.” Mo Zixi eyed her. “If that's all, I must rest.”
“Brother-in-law,” Xu Weixiao called after him, “Could you stop pushing me away so harshly? Each time I gather the courage to speak with you, you brush me off without mercy, leaving me hurt. I truly admire you. Even if you don't feel the same, at least don't let me sense your hatred, alright?”
Mo Zixi gazed at her intently.
Her eyes abruptly reddened as she stared at Xu Weixiao.
Xu Weixiao felt deeply wronged. She genuinely harbored feelings for Mo Zixi, yet every encounter ended with him keeping her at a distance.
She couldn't fathom why she fell short compared to Xu Weimiao. From childhood, boys favored Xu Weimiao, but they succumbed to her charms and adored her instead. This proved her greater appeal, so why was Mo Zixi blind to it?
Tears welled in her eyes as she beheld his lofty demeanor. Timidly, she grasped his sleeve. “Brother-in-law, please, don't despise me.”
“Release it,” Mo Zixi commanded. His tone was soft yet chilling.
Xu Weixiao's heart clenched. Fear gripped her instinctively.
Despite the fear, she refused to release his sleeve. “Brother-in-law, I ask for nothing. Even if I harbor secret feelings for you, can't I? I confess it's wrong, but I can't help it. That night stays etched in my memory forever. I…”
“Stop.” Mo Zixi shoved her hand aside coldly. “I've said I won't discuss that night.”
“Are you truly indifferent to me, Mo Zixi? I refuse to believe it!” Xu Weixiao's tone grew fervent. “Your reaction that night was intense. Don't deny you desire me, crave my body!”
Mo Zixi's throat bobbed subtly, his fist clenching unwittingly.
“Sister's in a delicate phase right now, correct?” Xu Weixiao pressed. “I know intimacy is forbidden in the first three months of pregnancy, and even after stability, it's restricted. I'm ready to assist you during this time. I mean it!”
Mo Zixi's gaze flickered.
Standing before him, Xu Weixiao swiftly loosened her silky red pajamas. The belt gave way, causing her attire to slip from her form.
She stood bare.
Completely exposed before him.
Xu Weixiao embraced herself. “My sister won't object. You overheard our talk this morning.”
Mo Zixi abruptly smirked.
A chilling expression.
Though icy, to Xu Weixiao, it was still a smile.
Emboldened, she dropped her arms and trailed scorching fingertips up from her feet. They encircled his neck as she leaned in to claim his lips.
Just then.
The bedroom door swung open.
Xu Weimiao emerged at the threshold, witnessing the scene in the living room distance.
She froze for two seconds.
After that brief stun, she quietly withdrew into the room. Her motions were feather-light.
Luckily.
A corridor separated the bedroom from the living room, softening her sudden appearance unlike Mo Zixi's entry that morning.
She eased the door shut.
She had awakened to find the spot beside her empty, unsure if Mo Zixi had returned or retreated to the study. Opening the door revealed her sister's nude form entwined with Mo Zixi.
Her frame went rigid.
Suddenly, memories of Mo Zixi's fervent advances the previous night flooded her mind.
Indeed.
All men wrestled with insatiable urges.
Before wedding her, Mo Zixi had sought relief from other women.
Leaning against the door, she pondered her own actions in that instant!
Was she justifying her husband's infidelity?!
A bitter smile appeared on her face as she readied herself to go back to bed and keep sleeping.
Suddenly, the door flew open with great force.
She quickly stepped out of the way.
Mo Zixi stepped inside and spotted Xu Weimiao right in front of him.
Who had caught the adulterers?!
Instead, Xu Weimiao looked like the guilty party.
Precisely.
Earlier, he had noticed Xu Weimiao. The angle was quite hidden, yet he clearly saw her arrive and then slip away.
He expected this exact reaction. With composure, he shoved Xu Weimiao aside.
He sensed nothing. Words were unnecessary.
Although he perceived Xu Weimiao's wildly crumbling emotions.
No woman could bear it easily—after daring to strip bare herself, only to face such cold rejection.
He turned to Xu Weimiao and asked, “Did you see it just now?”
“Ah?” Xu Weimiao was taken aback, but she nodded right away. “My sister seems to really like you.”
“Really?” Mo Zixi smiled.
Xu Weimiao stared at him, unable to read his emotions.
The faint aroma of alcohol and tobacco clung to his body.
Wasn’t he supposed to work overtime tonight?!
In the silent room, his smooth voice rang out, “What about you? Do you like me?”
