Jiang Xiao discovers a painting with a clue on the back, mentioning "Qingshuang" and "Luofeng Institute." She seeks information about the institute and Qingshuang from her teacher, Liu Guoying, and a classmate, Jin Lei. Director Jin, who might know the address, is currently away on a rural art outreach trip.

"Does your mother know the location of the Luofeng Institute?" Jiang Xiao inquired with a touch of persistence.

Jin Lei shook his head, replying, "How would my mother know."

So close, yet still out of reach. It was a frustrating realization.

Jiang Xiao rubbed her forehead, feeling a wave of helplessness wash over her.

Would they truly have to wait for Director Jin’s return before obtaining the necessary information?

After finishing her school day, Jiang Xiao made her way to the Meng family residence.

While Tyrant Meng was absent, she still felt it her duty to oversee matters for him.

Furthermore, the unresolved issue with Nian Che continued to weigh on their minds, like a persistent, heavy stone.

Over the past few days, Meng Chaojun had visibly lost some weight.

Previously, his chemotherapy treatments had caused him to gain a considerable amount of weight, a side effect of the medication that resulted in an unnatural bloating and distorted his appearance.

However, since he began consuming the Potion Jiang Xiao had provided, much of that swollen puffiness had receded, and he was gradually regaining his former physique.

Despite his outward appearance of recovery, the moment their gazes met, Jiang Xiao discerned that he was in low spirits.

Meng Chaojun’s eyes were shrouded in a profound gloom, reflecting a withdrawn and dispirited state.

Upon seeing her, he offered a quiet greeting.

"Little One is here."

"Yes, Dad, where are you heading?"

As Jiang Xiao arrived, Meng Chaojun was emerging from the living room.

"Nowhere in particular, I was just going to take a stroll in the yard. You should head inside; your grandfather is in."

"Oh, alright."

Jiang Xiao watched him slowly proceed toward the yard, noticing the slump in his shoulders, the entire figure exuding an even greater lack of vitality.

Old Meng heard her arrival and stepped out to greet her.

"Little One, you’ve arrived!"

"Grandpa, Dad seems…"

Old Meng let out a heavy sigh.

"He can’t seem to move past it. He’s been dwelling on the past with Mother Xinian, and the more he reflects, the more uncertainties arise. He’s come to realize he was indeed ensnared by others and that he gravely misunderstood Mother Xinian. The guilt and regret gnawing at his heart are immense."

Old Meng spoke of his son, his face etched with sorrow.

"There have been multiple occasions during the night when I’ve heard him having nightmares, calling out in distress. Perhaps his heart is too heavy; even the Potion isn’t bringing him restful sleep."

Jiang Xiao remained silent for a moment before inquiring, "What does he shout about in his nightmares?"

"He mostly calls out Mother Xinian’s name, pleading with her not to leave or similar things,"

Old Meng invited Jiang Xiao to sit and asked, "Will you be staying for dinner tonight?"

"Yes, I will."

Old Meng's expression brightened slightly at her agreement. "That would be wonderful. Your aunt will be coming over later, and she’ll prepare a few of your favorite dishes."

"Okay. By the way, Grandpa, have you seen any sign of Nian Che recently?"

"He appeared twice, but was turned away at the courtyard gate. We refused to let him in," Old Meng sighed, continuing, "Regardless of what he might have said, we offered no response, nor did we permit the guards to allow him entry. It must have been a few days since his last attempt, correct?"

"Besides those two occasions he came here, has there been anything else?"

"That’s all…" Old Meng mused, "I’ve been constantly worried about this situation, anticipating his next move. You’d think he wouldn’t resort to further schemes, yet a sense of unease persists in my heart."

Thus, as long as Nian Che remained inactive, the unresolved matter continued to cast a shadow over their hearts, preventing them from finding peace.

Jiang Xiao contemplated for a moment before stating with resolve, "Grandpa, I've given this considerable thought as well. How about this: I'll arrange for someone to monitor Nian Che’s movements around the clock."

By keeping a close watch on Nian Che’s activities, they could move away from their current passive stance.
