Chiang Xiao removed her mask, her gaze immediately scrutinizing him as she even walked around him once.
"Little, what are you doing?" Jiang Shiheng inquired.
"Checking if Dad is injured," Chiang Xiao replied.
Jiang Shiheng felt a mix of amusement and exasperation.
"Do you truly not trust me? Did Sun Han not inform you? You don't believe Sun Han either, is that it?"
"I need to see it with my own eyes to be at ease," she stated.
What Chiang Xiao refrained from mentioning was that after Sun Han's call, she had already made her suspicions. The sudden feeling of unease she experienced the day before yesterday afternoon was undoubtedly connected to Jiang Liu. Consequently, her immediate action was to examine his neck, and as anticipated, the black string was absent. She had personally placed a Jade Bead on him previously, which must have shattered. This implied that without the protection of the Jade Bead, Jiang Shiheng would have certainly suffered injury, or worse. This very reason was why Chiang Xiao insisted on coming. The fact that the peace charm had safeguarded Jiang Liu did not negate the malicious intent from Lu Shuangshuang. Even though Jiang Liu was currently unharmed, Chiang Xiao had already noted this offense against Lu Shuangshuang.
Chiang Xiao's attention then turned to the middle-aged man present in the room. He appeared to be around forty, yet he maintained a robust physique, tall and well-built, suggesting regular physical training. She couldn't help but wonder if he, too, was one of her father's bodyguards. Typically, when hiring security, one wouldn't opt for someone of this age, would they?
The man offered her a slight nod.
Jiang Shiheng then elaborated, "Allow me to introduce you, Little. This is Uncle Yang, Yue Yang. He will be serving as Dad’s assistant from this point forward."
Assistant... a new role.
"Yue Yang, this is my daughter, Chiang Xiao."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Jiang," Yue Yang greeted politely.
"No need for formalities, Uncle Yang," Chiang Xiao responded warmly.
"Very well, Sixth Young Master, I shall take my leave now."
"Proceed. Thank you for your assistance," Jiang Shiheng acknowledged.
Yue Yang made his exit. Sun Han remained near the door, and after a brief scan of the study, Chiang Xiao settled onto a small sofa by the side.
"Dad, have you eaten? I'm famished, I haven't had a bite."
It was already half-past seven. Jiang Shiheng had initially planned to dine after concluding his conversation with Yue Yang.
"Sun Han, quickly arrange for dinner to be prepared," Jiang Shiheng instructed, his heart going out to Chiang Xiao, who he presumed was too rushed to even eat. He immediately felt sympathetic towards her.
"Understood," Sun Han replied, promptly departing to organize the meal.
"Dad, do you typically dine this late every day?"
"No, today I had matters to discuss with Yue Yang, which extended the duration." Jiang Shiheng, noticing her attire, inquired with a smile, "Surely you didn't travel all this way dressed like that, did you?" He found it rather unbecoming for such a lovely young lady to be wearing what appeared to be men's clothing.
Chiang Xiao took off her backpack. "Actually, I brought changes of clothes, but it's fine. This outfit is newly purchased too. While it might not be the most stylish, it's clean." She reasoned that if she changed now, there was no telling with whom she might meet later, making her current attire acceptable for the moment.
"You've been traveling for two days, and it's still clean?" Jiang Shiheng questioned.
Uh... Chiang Xiao hadn't considered that point.
She had only changed into this outfit today. However, from Jiang Shiheng's perspective, she must have been wearing it for two consecutive days of travel, enduring a lengthy car journey. Indeed, it would be dirty. Insisting on not changing now would seem quite unreasonable.
Chiang Xiao let out a light giggle. "I'll take a shower after dinner. But Dad, do I have a place to stay tonight?" The Jiang Family was known for its grand scale and wealth, with each family branch possessing its own courtyard. Individuals like Jiang Shiheng even had separate courtyards, and she, upon visiting, would naturally have her own private quarters.
