Lu Shuangshuang feigns a sprained ankle to get closer to Jiang Shiheng and to send away a bodyguard. Jiang Shiheng sees through her flimsy attempts at manipulation, noting her penchant for petty schemes. Lu Shuangshuang tries to invoke sympathy by claiming she came alone and has only been waiting for him, but Jiang Shiheng questions the absence of other tourists on the island. A bodyguard returns with medicine, and as Lu Shuangshuang tries to get Jiang Shiheng to apply it, a Senior Master arrives.

Jiang Shiheng initially suspected Lu Shuangshuang’s sprain was a mere act, but a slight shift in his expression occurred when the hem of her skirt was lifted, revealing her foot.

Her ankle had ballooned to the size of a large steamed bun!

“It’s that swollen?”

Lu Shuangshuang pressed her lower lip between her teeth. “It hurts so much. I’m trying my best to hold back the tears, so that Xiao Sixth doesn’t think I’m overly delicate.”

Sun Han’s gaze also intensified.

He, too, had not foreseen that her sprain would be genuine and so severe.

“This appears to be a significant injury. It’s uncertain if the bones themselves are compromised. This medicated oil might offer limited relief. Once this heavy downpour ceases, Miss Lu should seek medical attention at the earliest opportunity,”

the Senior Master advised.

Lu Shuangshuang inclined her head. “Thank you, Senior Master.”

However, the rain showed no indication of abating, and Lu Shuangshuang’s ankle continued to swell with increasing intensity.

“Xiao Sixth, remaining seated is proving too agonizing. Please ask the Senior Master to arrange a room for me. I need to rest.”

“Understood.”

Observing her compromised state, Jiang Shiheng found little grounds for refusal. He signaled a bodyguard to convey the request to the Senior Master.

A room was promptly secured. Yet, Lu Shuangshuang found herself utterly incapable of walking; even with someone’s assistance, it was impossible. Jiang Shiheng instructed a bodyguard to carry her, but Lu Shuangshuang’s eyes welled up with tears.

“Xiao Sixth, while times have certainly evolved, you are acutely aware of the stringent and traditional principles that govern both the Jiang and Lu families. From my youth, I was instilled with the belief that men and women should maintain a respectful distance. Even if you harbor any resentment towards me, abandoning me to the care of others would be unbecoming of a gentleman.”

Sun Han cast a sideways glance at Jiang Shiheng before stepping forward. “Miss Lu, may I have the honor of carrying you?”

Hadn't she herself implied that he was distinct from the other bodyguards?

Surely, then, she would not object to him carrying her.

He was determined not to let Jiang Shiheng carry Lu Shuangshuang himself.

Just as Jiang Shiheng prepared to interject, Lu Shuangshuang spoke with a mournful tone, “Never mind, if your concern is truly so negligible, then so be it.”

Sun Han moved towards her and gently lifted her into his arms.

The modest temple’s designated room was situated in the rear courtyard, accessible via a stone pathway and through a gate leading into a small, secluded garden.

The persistent patter of the rain created an atmosphere of profound quietude, unbroken by any other sounds.

A Senior Master guided them, then pushed open a door.

Sun Han carried Lu Shuangshuang inside.

“Miss Lu, I shall set you down upon that chair…”

Sun Han registered an anomaly before he could complete his sentence, but by then it was too late.

A sharp needle swiftly penetrated his neck.

Instantly, Sun Han jettisoned Lu Shuangshuang, simultaneously reaching backward.

He managed to retrieve the syringe, but a significant portion of its contents had already been administered.

Lu Shuangshuang landed on the ground, momentarily disoriented by the abruptness of the action.

She had never anticipated that Sun Han’s reflexes would remain so swift even in such a predicament, discarding her without the slightest hesitation.

This decisive action had thwarted her from injecting the full dosage.

A wave of dizziness washed over Sun Han.

Shaking his head, he resolved to make a dash for the exit without delay.

“Stop him!”

Lu Shuangshuang’s cry rang out immediately.

The Senior Master was already in motion, launching a barrage of punches towards Sun Han.

Her strikes were delivered with considerable ferocity and potent force, clearly demonstrating her martial prowess.

“Begone!” Sun Han roared, lashing out with a kick in her direction.
