Ji Yuzhi slipped into her slippers and stepped out from the bedroom, noticing a faint glow leaking from the study door's gap.
Was he still working at such a late hour?
How did he possess such boundless stamina?
He had clearly toyed with her for ages just earlier...
Ji Yuzhi couldn't help but marvel at this man's terrifying vitality.
Might he be feeling thirsty too?
With that in mind, Ji Yuzhi fetched two glasses of hot water, heading to the study while planning to knock. Yet, with both hands full and given their intimate bond, she figured it was okay to nudge the door open with her body and say hello. Thus, she softly pressed against it to ease it ajar.
The moment a sliver appeared, Hu Xiangyong's deep voice drifted out, his exact words freezing her in place.
"...hire a thug to pretend to rob and find an opportunity to injure Chiang Xiao. Make sure to disinfect the knife, and remember to bring back the blood after you see it."
Ji Yuzhi's hand shook, hot water splashing onto her skin.
Having boiled it fresh, the scald made her nearly yelp.
Yet, by some miracle, she held it back.
Daring not to even inhale sharply, she spun away, retreating to the living room, her pulse thundering like it might explode.
Glancing behind, the narrow opening she'd created in the study door made her heart lurch once more; sensing trouble, she hurried back with the water and called out upon arrival.
"Xiang Yong, are you in the study? Do you want some water?"
Hu Xiangyong ended the call, lifted his gaze, and spotted Ji Yuzhi entering with two cups.
His gaze wavered briefly.
"You couldn’t sleep?"
"I did fall asleep, but suddenly felt very thirsty, so I got up to drink some water, and saw you weren’t here..." Ji Yuzhi approached him, eyeing the items scattered across his desk, "Why are you up in the middle of the night not sleeping?"
Hu Xiangyong yanked open the drawer, shoving the desk contents inside, and remarked, "I just remembered something I needed to handle, and now I’m done. Let’s go, back to sleep."
He rose, circled the desk to reach her, took the water from her grasp, "Drink this and let’s sleep."
"Okay."
Ji Yuzhi sipped the water, set the cup on his desk, and offered him a smile.
Hu Xiangyong encircled her waist with his arms, guiding her from the study toward the bedroom.
Once inside the bedroom, Hu Xiangyong shoved her onto the bed and tugged at her pajama bottoms.
"Xiang... Xiang Yong, why..."
Ji Yuzhi felt genuine terror. He'd ravished her on the sofa upon returning, once more before bed, and now, deep into the night, he craved more...
"Didn’t you say you couldn’t sleep? I think I wasn’t thorough enough tonight, one more time and you’ll sleep soundly in the second half of the night."
Hu Xiangyong declared, parting her legs before plunging in.
Ji Yuzhi clamped down on her lower lip.
Chiang Xiao headed to school quite early that day. After two classes, she chatted with Liu Guoying about the art exhibit and readied herself to head home.
She'd requested the afternoon off once again, recalling Jiang Liu's meetup with Lu Shuangshuang that afternoon, which left her uneasy. Back home, she could decide on a visit to D State.
As she strolled toward the playground, she caught sight of Ding Haijing nearing from the field's edge in her peripheral vision.
Ding Haijing's appearance stirred a twinge of guilt in her. She nearly pivoted to flee when Ji Yuzhi dashed her way.
Was it possible Hu Xiangyong devised yet another scheme, dispatching Ji Yuzhi as his messenger?
This notion drew a sigh from Chiang Xiao.
