"Got it, my precious darling," Ah Liu let out another soft chuckle.
His laughter reached her ears, and Chiang Xiao could tell he was in a pretty upbeat state, free from heavy pressure or viewing the matters as too tangled.
Relief washed over Chiang Xiao a bit.
"Dad, haven't you spotted anyone acting oddly yet?"
Chiang Xiao just had to inquire.
After watching folks so closely, wouldn't somebody in the Jiang Family who hurt him in the past have let slip some odd clue?
"Well, it looks like Dad's foes are real pros at staying under the radar," Ah Liu responded.
"They're my foes as well."
"Sure, sure, we're in this together."
"So..." Chiang Xiao thought of Lu Shuangshuang, paused briefly, then questioned, "Is Lu Shuangshuang still around the Jiang Family?"
"She sure is." Ah Liu's grin dimmed a touch as he added, "What's this, is my sweet girl feeling concerned?"
"Not concerned at all. I trust Dad's got it all under control," Chiang Xiao replied, "Has Dad gotten back all his memories now?"
"Not completely. Bits and pieces have surfaced, but the order's all jumbled up. So, I've got to piece it together right. That said, I did remember something fun—like how my mother, your grandma, stashed away some valuables for me, and I know the spot where I tucked them. I'll hand them over to you later. There's a nice haul of jewels and gold; they're stunning."
Chiang Xiao didn't hold back one bit, "Awesome, pass them all to me."
Her straightforwardness actually cheered Ah Liu up, sparking a big laugh from him.
"Naturally, everything goes to you."
"Xiao Sixth, can I enter?"
A soft woman's voice suddenly drifted in from over there, catching Chiang Xiao off guard.
She wasn't familiar with most women in the Jiang Family or their tones, and plenty might call him Xiao Sixth, so this didn't stand out much, yet Chiang Xiao's gut told her it was Lu Shuangshuang.
She pressed her lips together and went quiet.
"Little Xiao, I'll ring you up again soon."
"Okay."
Right as Chiang Xiao moved to end the call, the woman's voice piped up quickly once more, "Is Xiao Sixth chatting with Xiao Xiao? Mind if I chat with her a moment?"
Ah Liu hesitated, ready to turn her down, but Chiang Xiao beat him to it and accepted.
"Dad, that's Lu Shuangshuang, isn't it?"
"...Yeah."
"Then let me speak with her. I'm keen to catch what she says."
Chiang Xiao felt a strong curiosity toward Lu Shuangshuang.
Even though she wasn't thrilled about Ah Liu tying the knot, fresh off reuniting with her dad, she couldn't help but wish a tad selfishly to hold the top spot in his affections.
At the very least, maybe for a year or two.
If she hadn't soaked up enough of that fatherly warmth yet, and some other lady claimed his heart, with all his softness and attention going elsewhere, Chiang Xiao knew it'd leave her feeling pretty down inside.
On a logical note, she realized as his daughter, she ought not to act so self-centered, and she figured since she had Meng Xinian, why couldn't Ah Liu have a spouse?
Still, logic and feelings don't mix like that.
Having gone through two lifetimes without a dad, and now finally gaining one, it was only natural for her to crave keeping him all to herself a while.
That being said, should Lu Shuangshuang prove to be a decent sort, truly caring for Ah Liu and able to make him happy, Chiang Xiao understood she'd need to tweak her feelings and welcome her as a stepmom.
Ah Liu simply couldn't say no to Chiang Xiao.
Once he caught wind of her wish to talk to Lu Shuangshuang, he set the receiver aside, rose to his feet, stepped back a couple paces, and told Lu Shuangshuang, "Little Xiao's still young, so if she speaks her mind freely, I hope you won't take offense."
