Gao Wei’s temper flared instantly, and he signaled his lackeys with a sharp wave of his hand.
“Xiao Ruo, you’re forcing my hand! No good will come from you staying with this Kuang fellow! He’s clearly manipulated you into losing your senses. Men, give this guy a thorough beating for me!”
Several thugs began to close in on them at once.
“Gao Wei, don’t think you can act lawlessly just because your father supports you.” Kuang Yunxian shielded Du Jinruo behind him with one arm, his low voice cold as he scanned the group. “I’ve memorized all your faces. I might struggle to touch Gao Wei, but if you’re determined to follow him into this mess, I can certainly arrange for you all to take a long trip to the police station.”
The men swapped looks before erupting into mocking laughter.
“Gao Wei, give us the word—would you ever turn your back on us?” one of the thugs jeered.
Gao Wei curled his lip in a sneer. “Why would I? Ignore his rubbish. The Kong Family is lower than a stray dog these days; who could he possibly call? It seems he needs a good thrashing to clear his head. Move in, hit him!”
The command had barely left his lips when a heavy fist slammed into Kuang Yunxian’s midsection.
The impact was a sickening, dull thud, carrying significant force.
Kuang Yunxian doubled over instantly from the pain.
Du Jinruo let out a piercing scream. “Stop it! Please, stop hitting him!”
Her pleas fell on deaf ears.
Kuang Yunxian was fundamentally a scholar; he was no match for ruffians who had been brawling since their youth. Very quickly, a rain of fists began to pelt his face and torso mercilessly.
Compared to a typical frail academic, Kuang Yunxian’s instincts were somewhat sharper and his frame more resilient. He managed to dodge a few blows and even found openings to strike back.
Nevertheless, his resistance was far too feeble to change the outcome.
The air was filled with the sound of boots and knuckles striking flesh, punctuated by their crude insults.
“Take a look at yourself, you pale-faced weakling! You think you can snatch a woman from our Young Master Wei? Go to hell!”
“Kill him! Beat him to death!”
Watching Kuang Yunxian groan under the relentless assault, Du Jinruo was consumed by anxiety and agony. She threw herself at Gao Wei, clutching at him desperately. “Gao Wei, make them stop! Don’t let them hit him anymore! You’re going to kill him!”
Gao Wei grabbed her instead, dragging her to the side with a sinister, mocking grin. He didn't look away from the sight of Kuang Yunxian being pummeled. “So what if I kill him? Why are you wasting your time with a loser like this?”
“Gao Wei!”
With one hand trapped in his grip, Du Jinruo used her free hand to frantically pry at his fingers, desperate for release. However, her strength was nothing compared to Gao Wei’s.
In the center of the fray, Kuang Yunxian had been beaten to a point where he could no longer defend himself.
They weren't just using their hands anymore; they were kicking him without any restraint. Two heavy boots landed squarely on his solar plexus, nearly knocking the breath out of his lungs.
Gritting his teeth, Kuang Yunxian forced himself up with a surge of willpower. He lunged out and caught one of their legs mid-kick, heaving with all his might to flip the man over.
In a life-or-death struggle, a person's explosive power can be formidable. As the man was upended, he crashed into another companion, and both tumbled to the ground in a heap.
“Damn it!”
The remaining thugs cursed at the sight and simultaneously launched heavy kicks toward Kuang Yunxian’s chest.
“Brother Yun Xian!”
Du Jinruo turned her head and shrieked in absolute terror.
Chiang Xiao happened to be approaching the area at that moment. Suspecting that Gao Wei might still be lurking nearby or heading toward the shop, she had decided to stay close. She arrived just as Du Jinruo’s scream echoed through the air.
Her heart jolted, and she immediately broke into a full sprint toward the source of the commotion.
