Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s Chapter 2313: 2249: The Stingy Uncle

Previously on Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s...
Yang Zhiqi is struck with guilt upon discovering that his elderly parents had been secretly starving themselves. Fortunately, Chiang Xiao’s intervention and medical skills have finally allowed the couple to eat again, earning her the family's deep gratitude. Meng Xinian warns Yang Zhiqi to keep his wife’s healing abilities a secret to protect her from unwanted attention and the dangers of the mountains. Despite the serious nature of the situation, a lighthearted tension remains as Yang Zhiqi hopes to share in the special meal Chiang Xiao prepared.

Upon arriving, however, he discovered that Chiang Xiao was already in the middle of clearing the dining table.

Yang Zhiqi stood there, completely stunned.

“Is it all gone already?”

“Uncle Yang, there isn’t a single bite left for you. Weren’t you busy eating those pan-fried buns?” Chiang Xiao remarked.

Standing beside her, Meng Xinian simply gave a casual shrug.

See? You refused to believe him earlier.

Chiang Xiao turned to him and said, “Your porridge is waiting in the kitchen, go and eat it while it’s hot.”

“Alright!”

Watching Meng Xinian’s smug expression, Yang Zhiqi couldn't resist raising his foot to give him a swift kick.

As if he had eyes in the back of his head, Meng Xinian tilted his body slightly and dodged the blow with ease.

Yang Zhiqi, having missed his target, lost his balance and nearly stumbled over.

Old Yang shot him a look of pure disdain, “Stop making a fool of yourself.”

Yang Zhiqi: “…”

Chiang Xiao couldn't help but giggle at the sight.

Later on, Chiang Xiao decided to learn the art of cooking from Aunt Yang. She figured that with such a massive supply of meat stored in her Space, it was the perfect time to master some hearty dishes. After all, she might find herself craving them in the future.

Furthermore, seeing the lush greenery on the rooftop garden gave her the urge to do some planting of her own. The Black Soil within the Space hadn't been fully utilized yet. Since the medicinal herbs and flowers there continued to flourish even after being harvested, there was no need to overplant them.

Whenever she didn't have specific herbs to cultivate, she could actually grow some fresh greens. This would allow them to be self-sufficient, providing vegetables at home for those days they felt too lazy to go to the market.

Besides, the advantages of the Space weren't limited to just drinking the water, tea, or flower infusions; being able to use those ingredients for cooking was a wonderful prospect.

If she happened to find rare medicinal herbs later and ran out of room, she could simply clear out the vegetables to make space.

With this plan in mind, she went to ask Old Yang for some vegetable seeds.

Old Yang’s house was stocked with various melon seedlings and vegetable seeds. Having plenty of free time, his only daily hobby was tending to his rooftop garden.

Just as Meng Xinian finished preparing the rooftop area, Chiang Xiao spent the next two days learning gardening from Old Yang and cooking with Aunt Yang. The three of them felt as though they were enjoying a peaceful, pastoral lifestyle.

Meng Xinian felt somewhat neglected, as if Chiang Xiao hadn't come to visit him at all, but his complaints fell on deaf ears. He was forced to obediently return to the rooftop and join them whenever he wasn't tied up with training or meetings.

Secretly, Chiang Xiao mixed some Spirit Spring Water into the watering bucket and even applied some to Old Yang’s vegetable patches, topping them with a subtle layer of Black Soil. As a result, her plants grew at an incredible rate, showing visible progress in just two days.

Old Yang’s garden also showed such remarkable improvement that he was shocked, constantly claiming that Chiang Xiao was a lucky star who brought life to everything she touched.

Chiang Xiao took the remaining seeds and scattered them inside the Space. By the following morning, the greens had fully matured and were ready for harvest.

It was then she realized that the Black Soil accelerated the growth of vegetables even more significantly.

That afternoon, she stir-fried a batch of these small bok choys, while placing the vegetables harvested from Old Yang’s garden into the Space for storage.

Old Yang and the others assumed the stir-fry came from his own garden. They praised Chiang Xiao’s culinary skills, even suggesting she had the talent to be a professional chef if she ever gave up painting.

Yang Zhiqi had only managed to snag one meal during this time, and the flavor was unforgettable. However, Chiang Xiao insisted that the food was specially prepared for the two elders—cooked until soft and simmered thoroughly—claiming it wouldn't suit his palate and forcing him to eat at the canteen instead.

He felt a twinge of resentment every single time.

If that was the case, why was Meng Xinian allowed to eat at home?

“What exactly is my relationship with Little Xiao?”

Meng Xinian arched an eyebrow. He didn't care in the slightest that the meals had been somewhat simple lately.

“I am her uncle!”

“I’ve never met an uncle so stingy that he couldn't even provide a proper meeting gift.”
