The masked leader ground his teeth in frustration and barked, "Do you take me for a fool? How could your own hands refuse to obey you? I'm certain you struck me on purpose because you believe I've mistreated you in the past."

The masked leader snapped, "Enough! Someone come here and drag him away. Once I've dealt with that girl, I'll deal with him."

Immediately, men stepped forward to haul the crying subordinate away.

Shifting his gaze back to Murong Lingran, the masked leader commanded, "Take your own life. Once you are dead, I will set these children free."

Having said that, he tossed a dagger toward her feet.

Murong Lingran let out a cold sneer. "As if I’d ever believe you!"

"You!" the masked leader shouted in a rage. "If you refuse to do it, I will slaughter these children this instant."

Murong Lingran replied calmly, "You are welcome to try."

Infuriated, the masked leader roared at his men, "Go! Kill that brat named Stone for me!"

Two men quickly began marching toward Stone.

Murong Lingran took several steps forward.

The masked leader grew wary and asked, "What do you think you're doing?"

Murong Lingran smiled thinly. "I'm not doing anything, I just wanted to start a countdown."

"A countdown?"

"One, two, three..."

In the blink of an eye, the two men approaching Stone collapsed right before everyone's eyes.

Stone and the other children also felt their legs go limp, and they slumped onto the ground.

Startled, the masked leader rushed over and kicked one of his fallen men. "What's wrong with you?"

Murong Lingran remarked, "There is nothing wrong with them; they have simply been affected by my poison."

"Poison? When did you administer medicine?"

"Just a moment ago. In fact, you should be falling over right about now."

Sure enough, as the words left her mouth, the masked leader and those standing near her also collapsed.

"Now tell me, who is the mastermind behind you?"

"Hmph, I won't utter a word even if I die. Don't celebrate too early; the rest of my people will arrive shortly."

Just as he finished speaking, Stone suddenly cried out, "Sister Ran, look over there! A huge group is coming, and they all have bows and arrows!"

Murong Lingran looked up to see at least fifty masked men in black in the distance, all of them training their bows and arrows in her direction.

The leader of the new arrivals saw his comrades lying helpless on the ground while their target, Murong Lingran, stood unbothered in the middle of their camp. He shouted, "What have you done to my men?"

Shielding Stone and the others, Murong Lingran replied, "Isn't it obvious? They’ve been poisoned by me."
