Rebirth: Slice-of-life Cultivation Chapter 1721 - 940: Wrapping Up
Previously on Rebirth: Slice-of-life Cultivation...
The titanium-gray electric scooter streaked through the road, carrying Xin Youling, who clutched the injured kitten, feeling as though her future was jeopardized. As dusk settled, Jiang Ning flicked on the scooter's brilliant lights, allowing it to blend into the stream of vehicles and the anonymity of the masses.
Xin Youling's anxiety persisted; she dreaded facing legal repercussions. "Jiang Ning, you just hit someone and fled the scene."
Jiang Ning maintained a composed expression. "This isn't my first offense."
His response amplified Xin Youling's worry. "Wait, are you some kind of fugitive?"
Jiang Ning countered, "The old auntie said there weren't any cameras in that area. Do you comprehend the concept of recidivist intuition?"
Observing his apparent sincerity, Xin Youling's heart eased slightly, allowing her thoughts to settle. The Jiang Ning she recalled was always composed, never acting on impulse.
Such a demeanor undeniably conveyed a sense of trustworthiness.
"Besides, I was the one who engaged in the confrontation. Why should you be concerned?" Jiang Ning steered with steady control.
Xin Youling considered his words and acknowledged their truth but remained steadfast in her loyalty. "The crucial point is that you defended me."
Jiang Ning responded, "Once the pivotal element is identified, the issue resolves itself."
Xin Youling insisted, "The key issue is that this is a matter of principle!"
Jiang Ning echoed, "For matters of principle, the central focus must be on the core aspect."
Xin Youling was nearly overcome, a mix of exasperation and amusement bubbling within her. 'Is he intentionally toying with me?'
Jiang Ning, assessing the time, stated, "I'll locate a veterinary clinic for you later to tend to the cat's leg. I have other engagements."
"What other engagements?"
Jiang Ning explained, "Xue Yuantong is still hungry; I need to bring her some sustenance."
Xin Youling reacted with disbelief. "What?"
To Jiang Ning, Tongtong's hunger indeed took precedence.
At a pet supply store, he dropped Xin Youling off before proceeding to purchase dinner for Tongtong.
Upon arriving at the school's entrance, he encountered Dong Qingfeng on a pink scooter.
Dong Qingfeng had enrolled in a course, embarking on a path toward greater strength.
Earlier, he had donned protective gear for a sparring session with the coach. In the coach's presence, he truly seemed like a novice.
The coach had easily bested Dong Qingfeng.
If only he could attain such proficiency...
The mere thought sent a flicker of excitement through Dong Qingfeng.
He offered a nod in greeting to Jiang Ning, musing to himself, 'Next time, you won't be the only one basking in the spotlight!'
Jiang Ning acknowledged him before twisting the throttle and accelerating onto the campus. Dong Qingfeng instinctively attempted to follow, but a guard gestured and shouted, "Halt, stop!"
Dong Qingfeng's fervor immediately waned.
The security personnel reprimanded him, "He has official authorization from the principal!"
...
Jiang Ning's delay caused him to arrive late.
As he entered the classroom, he was met by Tongtong's stern gaze.
She immediately demanded, "Where have you been?"
Jiang Ning offered a plausible excuse: "The restaurant was rather slow with the fried rice order; it took some time."
"Hmph, perhaps you were just dawdling to enjoy yourself outside!" Tongtong saw through his fabricated story.
Jiang Ning presented the takeout container. "Well, do you wish to eat?"
Xue Yuantong's response was swift. "Eat!"
Jiang Ning chuckled mockingly. "Glutton."
Xue Yuantong retorted sharply, "I'm not eating!"
Jiang Ning pressed, "Do you truly not want it? The fried rice smells wonderful, complete with two eggs, and I procured for you slow-braised delicacies and fresh watermelon juice..."
Xue Yuantong succumbed, declaring, "Eat!"
Jiang Ning remarked critically, "Truly, your willpower is quite lacking."
Nearby, Chen Siyu discreetly clicked her tongue. 'Tongtong is just like his favorite plaything!'
Xue Yuantong endured the indignity, continuing her meal, plotting her revenge once she was satiated.
Soon thereafter, evening self-study commenced.
Xin Youling requested permission to leave to attend to the cat's injured leg.
Dong Qingfeng occupied himself with reading, though his thoughts were consumed by the private sparring lesson scheduled for the following noon.
Chen Siyu, focused on the present, whispered to Bai Yuxia, "Which one captures your interest more?"
Xue Yuantong overheard their hushed exchange and promptly inquired, "Look at what?"
Chen Siyu replied, "Looking at selfies."
Xue Yuantong dismissed the idea with a wave of her hand. "What's so fascinating about that?"
Chen Siyu felt a sense of being slighted, almost compelled to display her cherished photographs to Tongtong!
Fortunately, her superior restraint prevailed, sparing young Tongtong from potential torment.
From a distance, Cui Yu, Meng Gui, and Liu Chuandao were discussing Yun Tingting's selfies, proclaiming the woman's self-portraits to be so exquisite they wished to have them printed for safekeeping!
It wasn't until Wang Longlong advised them to moderate their volume.
Xue Yuantong, her mind racing with thoughts, recalled Jiang Ning's teasing during dinner and resolved to exact revenge.
She retrieved her small mobile phone, artfully capturing two delightful selfies, feeling a surge of self-satisfaction.
Initiating her teasing sequence, she winked and asked, "Jiang Ning, would you be interested in viewing my selfie?"
Jiang Ning deflected her offer casually. "What merits viewing in a child's photograph?"
Xue Yuantong felt the sting of his words.
...
The first evening self-study session concluded.
Jiang Ning sought the evening breeze on the eastern balcony. Gong Jin, ever-present, seemed like a fixture of the balcony, determined to keep Lin Zida and Zhuang Jianhui at a distance.
Suddenly, Jiang Ning's phone vibrated with a message from Ding Shuyan.
"Are you attending class at school?"
"Yes," Jiang Ning responded.
"I'm in class too."
Jiang Ning employed his Divine Sense to survey the adjacent Class 1. As usual, Ding Shuyan was absent.
Jiang Ning typed: "What class are you attending if you're not at school?"
Ding Shuyan replied: "Thinking of you every moment."
She had surpassed her master.
Jiang Ning mused, offering praise: "Impressive. I'm curious how you ventured so far down this path?"
After a pause of half a minute.
Ding Shuyan transmitted a photograph: a black veil short skirt, worn with a hint of concealment, paired with a pair of attractively shaped legs.
She then inquired, "Can you perceive the path I once trod?"
Jiang Ning saw it clearly.
He then extended an invitation for her to walk that path with him tonight.
The Sweater Aunt's vengeance was intense, pursuing Xin Youling for a trivial matter and viciously attacking her recent source of comfort, the cow cat.
Jiang Ning, considerate of his classmates, had refrained from obliterating the aunt. However, he disliked leaving such matters unresolved.
Outside the school grounds, a white Mercedes G-wagon materialized by the roadside.
Ding Shuyan, sporting a Duckbill cap, was clad in the same black skirt, her strikingly fair legs clearly visible.
Jiang Ning chuckled inwardly, observing her penchant for creating a spectacle, though he found himself drawn to it.
He casually flipped his palm, causing a White Jade Pendant to appear between his fingers. Placing it on the armrest, he instructed, "Wear it close to you."
Ding Shuyan, without even glancing at the pendant, kept her gaze fixed forward. With solemnity, she questioned, "Where precisely do you wish to go?"
Jiang Ning studied her. Though her face was mostly obscured by the brim of her hat, the curve of her exposed chin remained exquisitely beautiful.
Yet, she seemed somewhat detached from reality.
He stated, "Accept it or refuse it - why maintain this pretense?"
Ding Shuyan's hand, like a piece of carved jade, silently extended.
