Rebirth: Slice-of-life Cultivation Chapter 1666 - 907: Overestimating Oneself

The vibe in the Korean BBQ restaurant remained pleasantly harmonious.
Dong Qingfeng animated the discussion, entertaining Zhou Jinglan and making certain Meng Zi Yun wasn't ignored.
Meng Zi Yun plastered a smile on her lips, yet inwardly she seethed with dissatisfaction. What's this? Can't keep your gaze away from any pretty face?
She understood Qingfeng's tactics perfectly. Earlier, while talking with Qingfeng’s mother, she'd been quizzed on being which girlfriend, nearly setting her off.
Right then, Zhou Jinglan grinned and remarked, "Your way of talking is pretty fascinating."
Cui Yu joked, "Practice makes perfect, that's all!"
Wang Longlong chimed in, "Hey, Brother Yu, saying that might upset Brother Nan!"
Dan Kaiquan spilled Guo Kunnan’s secret, "Brother Nan friended a local girl yesterday, but got blocked after only three messages."
Guo Kunnan, munching on meat, appeared mortified. Why drag him into the jokes once more? It surely harmed his image before Zhou Jinglan.
Meng Zi Yun grabbed the chance, "Jinglan, since you find Dong Qingfeng’s speech interesting, have you run into guys with dull talk before?"
All present sharply caught the sharp edge hidden in her remark.
Guo Kunnan realized his cue had arrived, jumping in to shield, "I’m that dull talker, haha!"
‘Brother Nan, no need for that.’ Dan Kaiquan barely restrained himself, Wang Longlong kept quiet, while Cui Yu gaped, at a loss for words.
Zhou Jinglan, seldom facing fellows of this sort, found herself stunned silent.
Meng Zi Yun’s jab got intercepted, yet the mood turned awkward anyway. Dropping her assault on Zhou Jinglan, she grinned and added, "You guys like Qingfeng’s chat style, but it doesn’t win over all; plenty of girls can’t stand him."
Her words done, every classmate in the room turned their eyes her way, Zhou Jinglan included.
Meng Zi Yun continued, "Since hooking up with Qingfeng, my bestie keeps saying we don’t match and pushes hotter guys my way."
During this, she shot a side-eye at Zhou Jinglan, staking her claim, warning her off Dong Qingfeng—her guy!
Zhou Jinglan stayed cool. After nearly getting thrashed for accidentally riling a leopard-print chick’s boyfriend, she’d grown wary, fully grasping how vicious women could be to each other.
Guo Kunnan grew irritated at Meng Zi Yun’s bestie mentions, inwardly griping, "Endless best friend chatter—why not shack up with her instead?"
Cui Yu burst out, "Your bestie’s a real piece of work!"
Dong Qingfeng serenely drank his tea, musing that if Tang Jing rated a 5, Meng Zi Yun hit 7.5, her bestie scraped by at just 3.5. Way too plain.
His courteous, refined side saved itself for attractive ladies only.
Meng Zi Yun’s bestie stirring trouble left him utterly detached. With endless choices, why sweat it?
"Planning to ditch her then?" Dong Qingfeng asked nonchalantly.
Meng Zi Yun beamed, "Already done."
Guo Kunnan blinked in shock, "What’s your status with her now?"
Numerous gazes shifted to watch.
Meng Zi Yun sensed her spotlight moment. Still smiling, she declared, "I swapped her out as best friend. Constantly butting into my business—she doesn’t deserve the role."
Dong Qingfeng set his teacup aside, eyeing her astonished, "Woman, you’re something else."
Cui Yu praised, "Impressive move, no surprise you’re Sister Meng!"
Wang Longlong tossed in mockingly, "Sister Meng totally radiates big sis vibes!"
Meng Zi Yun relished her comeback, wishing Zhou Jinglan gained some sense now.
...
Amid the raging snowstorm.
Zhang Chi pedaled his e-bike up to Sunshine Deer Court’s main entrance, gazing at the imposing gateway and unavoidably reminiscing about his security guard stint.
Truth be told, guarding a luxury neighborhood proved rather sweet. Salary flowed in, plus side cash, like living the dream.
Regrettably, one rash move at the countryside resort irked the boss, costing him the gig.
Any regrets?
Zhang Chi insisted he had none.
Yet if true regret lingers, who can say?
Zhang Chi fetched the order from the delivery service, marching toward the gate. From the security booth, a youthful guard eyed him slyly, "Food delivery, huh, bro?"
Zhang Chi paused, spotting the guard as an ex-server from a local eatery he’d once blocked during a drop-off.
"We keep pedestrians and vehicles apart here; no entry for you. Unless..." The young guard wiggled his fingers, flashing a ‘get my drift’ smirk.
Zhang Chi cut straight, "How much?"
Guard: "Ten yuan."
Zhang Chi gawked, "You nuts? What’s my cut per run? Last time you ran food, I took just one yuan."
"Your earnings ain’t my problem, right?" The guard’s face hardened instantly, bent on hassling him.
"Hear me out, pal. Want in for delivery? Fork over the cash fair. Or else, heh heh."
Zhang Chi shot him a fierce glare, growling low, "Want my dough? Prep to stake your neck."
The guard sneered, "Gonna swing at me? It’s ten to pass now—pay extra!"
Zhang Chi boiled over. He dropped the bag, lunged, and smashed a fist into the guard’s mug, "To hell with your extras! You’re finished!"
"No more deliveries! Time to pound you senseless, scum!"
Blindsided, the guard crumpled after two hits. Even squared up, he’d lose bad to Zhang Chi, surprise or not.
Zhang Chi’s rage unquenched, he stomped two more kicks while snarling, "Damn punk, messing with your elder!"
Having thrashed the guard, Zhang Chi snatched the delivery, hopped on his e-bike, and sped back to report to the boss that Sunshine Deer Court blocked all drops.
