1449 Unveiling
“Mom, someone’s here!”
Jian Yiyi spotted the two distant figures approaching and couldn't help but stand up to look.
The others rose as well. Jian Yichen frowned, questioning, “Didn’t we book this entire place?”
They had reserved the whole ranch for a week, a considerable expense. The owner, after ensuring they had ample provisions, had departed, leaving them undisturbed for several days.
!!
Their surprise was therefore understandable. Jian Changsheng remarked, “Perhaps they're lost and seeking directions. It’s alright, I’ll go see.”
Jian Changsheng walked forward.
As he drew nearer, the appearances of the two individuals became clear: one was an Asian man, the other a blonde European.
They were Duo and Luan Qingyang, members of the twelve guards.
“What is it?”
Jian Changsheng inquired in English, maintaining a polite demeanor.
Duo, clad in a black traditional Chinese suit, remained expressionless. He cast a brief glance at Jian Changsheng before his gaze passed through him to rest on Qiao Shuyi behind.
With a single look, he identified his target.
To the European Duo, most Asians appeared similar, prompting Luan Qingyang to instinctively produce photographs for comparison. It was only then that he confirmed the woman standing some distance away was indeed the person their Sect Master wished to attend to.
Noticing their dismissive behavior, Jian Changsheng felt insulted. He frowned slightly, stating, “This is a private ranch. If you have no further business, please leave.”
“Of course, there is business,” Duo replied slowly, speaking Chinese.
Before Jian Changsheng could react to his shock, an invisible force violently repelled him. He was flung backward, landing heavily on the soft grass.
“Dad!”
Jian Yiyi and Jian Yichen cried out simultaneously and rushed toward him.
Qiao Shuyi also moved to check on Jian Changsheng with concern, but she suddenly found herself unable to move.
A potent force held her captive on the spot, as if she were pinned to the ground, unable even to lift her feet.
“Husband! Husband!”
Qiao Shuyi screamed in distress. Her body twisted instinctively, as though attempting to break free from the unseen restraint.
However, her actions appeared peculiar to onlookers, who could not perceive the power binding her, only seeing her writhe in apparent terror.
Jian Changsheng, enduring his discomfort, managed to stand. His eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at Qiao Shuyi. At that moment, Duo and Luan Qingyang were advancing towards her.
Seeing this, Jian Changsheng attempted to intervene, but before he could move, black smoke billowed from beneath his feet. The smoke coalesced into a circle, engulfing Jian Changsheng, Jian Yiyi, and Jian Yichen.
Duo then subtly clenched his fists, and the smoke instantly bound the three of them together.
This bizarre display of power terrified Jian Yichen into silence. Jian Yiyi began to cry from fear, and even Jian Changsheng, an adult, struggled to comprehend the reality of the situation.
What was this? Was it a superpower?
“Who are you? What do you want?!” Jian Changsheng’s refined composure vanished, as he sensed the other party’s intended target was his wife. Danger was rapidly approaching her. He couldn't help but bellow, “Don’t hurt her. I beg you. You can have anything you desire. Please, don’t harm her!”
Qiao Shuyi’s eyes widened, tears streaming down her face, filled with terror of an unknown power.
She couldn't even discern if the two men before her were human or specters.
Duo showed no haste in attacking; the Sect Master had further directives.
Jian Ai intended for Jian Changsheng to witness this woman's true nature.
Duo gazed expressionlessly at Qiao Shuyi and slowly inquired, “Are you happy?”
Qiao Shuyi’s pale lips trembled, her legs weakened. Were it not for the restraining force, she would have collapsed to the ground.
Hearing the question, she could only stammer, “What do you want… Money… I have money… I can give you as much as you desire…”
Qiao Shuyi was no longer in a state to calmly ponder Duo's question.
Was she happy? Should she be happy? What reason was there for happiness?
Qiao Shuyi failed to understand.
Duo, however, continued, “Let me ask you this: Would you be happy if Wang Yunmei and Jian Yu were dead?”
Qiao Shuyi froze instantly, stunned as if struck by lightning.
Simultaneously, Jian Changsheng’s eyes widened in shock. He could not believe what he was hearing. He refused to believe it!
“You… what did you say…” Jian Changsheng murmured, looking at Duo. “What did you just say? What happened to Meizi and Xiao Yu? Tell me, what happened to them?!”
By the end of his plea, Jian Changsheng had nearly lost control, roaring with grief.
Luan Qingyang looked at the distraught and sorrowful man, stating coldly, “They are dead. This woman before you orchestrated their demise!”
Jian Ai’s objective was to create the conclusion Qiao Shuyi desired. Yet, this very outcome was now laid bare before Jian Changsheng. What would be his reaction?
Jian Changsheng’s eyes were bloodshot, his heart a tumultuous storm. He met Qiao Shuyi’s gaze, noticing her own tears flowing freely.
Was she experiencing regret, or perhaps distress that Jian Changsheng had uncovered everything?
“Is it true?” Jian Changsheng’s voice was a low murmur as he questioned Qiao Shuyi.
Qiao Shuyi, however, could only offer silent tears. She had always been perceived as flawless in Jian Changsheng’s eyes, and admitting such truths before him was impossible.
Nevertheless, her quiet acceptance struck Jian Changsheng’s heart like a physical blow. He shook his head, his vision blurred by red-rimmed eyes. The way he looked at Qiao Shuyi was now utterly foreign, as if he were encountering his wife of over a decade for the very first time.
“Why?” Jian Changsheng’s disbelief was palpable as he bellowed, his voice echoing, “Why?!”
“It is I who committed wrongdoings. Why? Why?!”
Jian Changsheng had never, in his entire life, lost such a grip on his composure.
...
Jian Yiyi, terrified, began to sob. She couldn’t grasp the situation but was overwhelmed by fear.
Jian Yichen, however, processed the shock with a dawning realization. Jian Yu was deceased?
What about Jian Ai?
The mere thought of Jian Ai sent a paralyzing wave of fear crashing over him, engulfing him like an inescapable vortex. Jian Yichen’s extremities grew cold, and tears streamed down his face.
He thrashed his body in distress, turning to face Duo and Luan Qingyang. Amidst his tears, he pleaded, “Where is Jian Ai? Where is Jian Ai?! Did something happen to her? Please tell me she’s still alive!”
