Vritra stepped out of the protective circle as eggs cracked open, birthing sticky black creatures that rapidly swelled into twelve-foot ascended minotaur beasts. Unprotected humans screamed and perished horribly in the surging beast tide, while those crammed inside the circle panicked, infighting and shoving each other to gruesome deaths. Vritra fought relentlessly alone, slaying dozens with spear thrusts, dual swords, and sin point rewards, adapting amid the chaotic horde.

"My hunny bunny, did you miss me?"

A sweet scent suddenly wrapped around Vritra, as a soft warmth pressed against his back, with two arms encircling his neck.

Her words came in a hushed tone, followed by a gentle kiss on his neck.

Vritra, in the midst of battling the beasts, got stunned, pausing briefly before recognizing her.

"Evelyn?!" As he got distracted, dozens of massive beasts lunged at him simultaneously.

Yet they were all repelled, forming a wider ring around the pair, merely by Evelyn's single thought.

"Yes, it is me, your first wife." Her voice was sugary as she slipped off him.

Vritra spun around to face that stunning visage, her eyes aflame and lips curved in a tender smile.

"What are you doing here? Why are you even bothering me?" Vritra questioned, stepping backward.

"Obviously I am here to see you, and don't say that, it makes me feel sad. But it's fine- Love!"

While Evelyn talked, one beast broke through, charging into the ring and slashing its claws at Vritra's rear.

At the final instant, Evelyn yanked him aside, placing herself as his shield.

BANG

The claws tore into her flesh, blood spraying across the astonished Vritra's face.

COUGH

She coughed up blood, feebly shoving the beast back, crimson trickling from her mouth.

Evelyn gazed weakly at Vritra, her bloodied hand caressing his cheek as she collapsed softly into his embrace.

Vritra caught her, his features blank while eyeing her trembling, frail body.

As she slumped, he lowered himself to the ground, cradling her.

"M- my love, I have loved you haa for a long time. Protecting y- you was my choice, I just want to hear you say you love m- me cough p- please, fulfil my l- last wish…"

Her voice broke as her eyelids drooped shut.

Vritra's face darkened, but he nodded; for her dying request, he'd grant it.

He wasn't heartless enough to let her savior depart in despair.

Stroking her cheek while propping her up, he murmured softly.

"You love m- me cough, happy now?" Vritra said, rolling his eyes.

Evelyn, who had longed for his affection confession, went silent; he didn't need to repeat her words verbatim.

He stood up, hauling her with him, and declared, "Now, enough with your act, don't disturb me."

"Haa my love, you used to play along before, anyway where are my welcome back kisses?"

Evelyn inquired, arms outstretched.

Vritra merely rolled his eyes, drawing deep breaths to steady himself, then questioned:

"How do you even know me? I haven't even heard your name before."

"Sigh fine, I'll tell you. You might not know it but we spent whole nine years together, it might have been a dream but it was a reality for me. Remember the love pill?" She asked.

"Oh!" Vritra abruptly recalled the pill from the sin wheel that he'd flung off the planet.

He still puzzled over why he'd discarded it.

Silently cursing the divine, as anticipated, that fiend not only knew but had sparked the whole ordeal.

"Haa wait, what you are feeling must have been the effect of the love pill, it's not real love! Maybe th- the effects of the pill will disappear or... I can try finding some antidote." He suggested.

"No! Those nine years might have been an illusion but I lived through them. And I know very well what a love pill is, I created it.

It doesn't work like that, it won't just make anyone fall for anyone. I lived with you and I fell for you, while you did for me, it was all real." Evelyn asserted firmly.

Vritra found himself at a loss for words; she wouldn't take rejection, and he couldn't welcome just any woman into his world.

He couldn't gauge the truth or her secret agendas.

"Don't worry, my darling. You don't have to respond or even accept my love, I can just steal it all, you, your love. All of it belongs to me..."

She whispered obsessively yet softly. Vritra felt utterly powerless; since when were women so bold, aggressive, and insistent?

He knew he couldn't beat her and feared she might harm his family.

"So, what are you here for then?"

He probed warily, eyeing her.

Vritra hoped Evelyn wouldn't pounce like Yennefer; this one appeared even more unhinged.

"I'm here to meet you of course, and tell you that I need you to quickly meet my parents." She answered with a grin.

"Huh? Why would I meet your parents?" Vritra thought this woman might be deranged, behaving as if he'd consented.

Or perhaps his opinion held no weight?

"Of course that's to marry me, my silly love." She clarified.

"Sigh I have not agreed to any of that yet, also let me focus on killing these beasts now." Brushing off the alluring blonde, he faced the hideous monsters.

They continued expanding over time, now towering beyond fifteen feet.

"Hmm how about a small bet? If you can kill exactly 107 monsters in a minute, I will leave for now and even leave a nice gift for you." Evelyn proposed, adding:

"And if you lose, heh you will have to play a little game with me."

"I don't agree, I don't want to bet. And from the way you spoke last time, it doesn't seem your family will approve of our relation even if I agree, right?"

Vritra countered, scheming to send her away.

"…Yeah, it will be really difficult to make them agree, but we can do it I am sure.

Sigh they had already even found some random higher being for me, trying to get us engaged, but don't be jealous my love, I firmly rejected." Evelyn explained.

She realized her kin wouldn't relent easily, leaving her powerless against them.

Thus, Vritra needed rapid growth.

She couldn't evade her family, so only an official marriage with Vritra could halt it, barring eternal life force suspension.

"And you believe I can do anything against your family? I can't even defeat you." Vritra remarked, sensing impending chaos.

"Not… now, but very soon. I am here to support you, aren't I? Anyway as for our bet, let's start!" Her stern look shifted to mischief.

With a finger snap, the barrier vanished, unleashing the beasts on Vritra once more.

He sighed deeply, aware he lacked control even over the wager.

Victory might buy temporary relief; gripping his dual blades, he erupted into a slaughter rampage.

Exactly 107 creatures to fell.

Battle clamor resumed, filling the seventeen encircled men with sheer terror.

Their thoughts spiraled wildly, fury surging within.
