"Found you!!" Abruptly, a cold voice echoed from above.
Vritra's frame went rigid, his eyes darting skyward where a figure in dark attire hovered.
The protector had arrived!
"Vritra Arclis, the destroyer of a major section of the world bank, that's you!" the man declared in a gruff tone.
"Oh, I'm Adam, you've mistaken me for someone else." Vritra replied, preparing to activate the Blood Demon Transformation.
This was his mightiest state right now, yet with his abilities restricted while the foe could wield some of his own, it felt unfair.
In battle, fairness didn't count.
Usually, his rivals were far beyond his level regardless.
"Run!" He yelled, bolting off in another direction as the protector lunged.
Neither side could respond in time, but luckily, Vritra alone was the focus.
The others remained, stunned and anxious, watching as Vritra and the protector vanished afar.
"L- Let's head to a close structure first; remaining exposed will turn us into sitting ducks." Yasmine suggested, her hands balled tightly.
They all hurried along, though concern weighed heavy, their options were limited at present.
After soaring some way, Vritra halted and spun around; fleeing was futile anyhow.
"Just follow me peacefully; my duty is to escort you back, so I'd rather avoid harming you." The protector stated, producing a spherical device.
He hurled it at Vritra, which expanded into a massive spherical cage.
However, Vritra dissolved into a torrent of blood, spreading every which way.
[Blood Demon Transformation!]
The cage ensnared much of the blood but missed the rest, as Vritra reformed nearby.
"I won't return with you; the trial or whatever can hold off until I finish here." Vritra declared, fiery bursts igniting from his hands.
"That your decision?" The protector exhaled, stowing the cage while iron chains slithered from beneath his garb.
"Yeah…" Vritra drew the spear, his awareness sharpened to the max.
CLANG
A chain whipped toward him suddenly, nearly skewering his torso, yet the spear deflected it.
Vritra melted into a blood puddle and surged ahead, blood erupting around to halt the chains.
[Blood Eagles!]
CHIEEEEEEEEE
CHIEEEEEEEEEEE
Numerous massive blood eagles charged at the protector, as Vritra thrust the spear.
The protector observed with composure, lifting his arm to unleash denser chains.
But then, his face shifted; he glanced upward sharply.
BOOOOM
A blast hurled Vritra backward, slamming the protector into the earth.
Vritra shifted forms repeatedly and steadied himself somehow.
He peered up swiftly, spotting a man levitating overhead, appearing as an ordinary middle-aged fellow.
Vritra sensed it wasn't his true shape; now a new player entered the fray.
"Uh oh, that's an administrator; they serve directly under the gods, upholding the game's rules.
Exposure is possible if he notices you." Divine commented, yet he showed no rush to assist Vritra.
The protector rose, brushing dirt from his robe; the strike caused little harm, merely snapping some chains.
"Protector, I recommend you exit the game zone at once.
Regardless of the world bank's troubles, you must not meddle in the games; the superiors will disapprove."
The administrator stated flatly.
"I only require this individual, then we'll depart. Failing to seize and return him means facing the superiors ourselves, leaving us no alternative."
The protector replied, refusing to yield.
The administrator's eyes shifted to Vritra, nearby, surprise crossing his features.
"Oh hmm? And you are?"
"Hello, I'm Adam, pleasure to meet you. Kindly sort your dispute; I'll be on my way." Vritra said, pivoting to flee by air.
"Wait." Both uttered simultaneously; getaway seemed out of reach.
"Yes?" He sighed, rotating back to ask.
"Why do you… bear the code of a player? How'd you enter? Who exactly are you?" The administrator's forehead creased as he accessed Vritra's data.
"…"
"Fine, you two must accompany me. We'll hold you for a full probe, yet the game continues uninterrupted!" He commanded resolutely.
The protector agreed with a nod, drifting nearer to the administrator.
Vritra exhaled and nodded too, ascending rapidly.
"Good, no need to fret; you'll return to the game once we finish with-" The administrator was mid-sentence when a chain impaled his back.
His eyes bulged in disbelief at the assault in their domain.
At once, Vritra drove the spear in, the tip plunging into the administrator's chest and protruding from behind.
Shock turned to fury in his gaze as he spat blood and repelled them forcefully.
Attempts to reach fellow administrators failed; the area was sealed by the protector.
"Seems I misjudged your smarts; for this offense, I can execute you outright." The administrator uttered steadily.
Vritra and the protector exchanged looks; temporarily allied, they charged without delay.
BOOOOOM
Fearsome flames engulfed the heavens, blood surges crashing against the unseen barrier.
The administrator countered their combined assault, debating whether to summon the gods or invoke divine retribution.
Observing the protector and frail human, he saw no urgency and struck fiercer.
Spear and chains synced seamlessly; though Vritra lagged in power, he taxed the administrator heavily.
Attacks on him were evaded or blocked by the protector, and that spear even sliced the administrator's flesh.
'The protector matches the administrator's might; alas, I couldn't beat them solo.'
In a fair duel against either, instant death awaited him.
CLANG
A chain intercepted a blow that almost tore Vritra asunder, letting him advance and sever the administrator's arm.
Vritra seized the limb, flinging it toward the administrator.
[Blood Explosion!]
BOOOOM!
Chains hammered the administrator concurrently, as he evaded the onslaught.
'This grows complicated; still cut off from the rest. I must alert the gods straight; it's grave.'
The administrator resolved; nothing from Vritra or the protector could halt it.
Sidestepping yet another strike, he produced an orb and shattered it, energy streaking upward and vanishing.
Dread etched the protector's visage; godly intervention spelled doom for his efforts.
Vritra's capture would fail, the fugitive slipping away.
Still, blocking the signal proved impossible.
"Cease; resistance is futile now; the gods have surely received word.
Punishments await you both." The administrator declared coolly.
