Through the portal on the opposite side, Jack dashed about wildly, yelling at the top of his lungs, yet he remained utterly alone.
Vritra had abducted him days ago, and it appeared everyone had simply overlooked his existence.
"You coward, face me head-on if you've got the guts—quit with these sneaky schemes," he bellowed, flailing his fists and feet through empty space.
Jack believed Vritra had likely tricked Fiona with some deception as well, though he vowed to go to any lengths to snap her out of it.
Right at that instant, a gateway ripped open, and three women emerged from it.
"!!!" Initially terrified, Jack's fear flipped to pure delight in a flash.
"Fiona, goddess a-nd could that be Vritra's mother?" he pondered aloud, then burst into joyful laughter. "You've come for me, haven't you? Here to rescue me at last? SOB, I always knew I meant something special to you."
Fiona's face twisted right away into revulsion, and she retreated a pace.
"Why's he even in this place?"
"Fiona, it's Jack here. Goddess, surely you recall me? You're saving me now, aren't you? D-Don't say you've got feelings for me too?" He froze, shocked by his own wild ideas initially.
Yet soon he chuckled and added: "Ah, tough break—I adore Fiona way too deeply, but after we're united, I could consider giving you a shot."
Clearly, his heroic exploits and rapid rise had captivated even the goddess with his allure.
"Wow, check out this fool. Folks might claim he was destined for a rubber ad gig.
And here's the ultimate generational shame—hard to fathom the agony your poor mother suffered bringing a disaster like you into the world." Vanessa remarked with a heavy sigh.
"Whoa, that hit the spot." Diana commended.
"Heh, picking up tips from my dear."
The trio of women chuckled while observing Jack's face; he stood there stunned and utterly shamed.
"H-How dare you all!! You can't just spout nonsense like that, I will—" He merely lifted his right arm to intimidate Vanessa.
BOOM
Yet the instant after, his whole limb burst apart in a spray of gore.
"If I were in your shoes, I'd watch myself and not screw up further." Vritra's voice echoed. They turned to see him stride forth from the portal.
A brief hush fell, then Jack gripped his stump and howled in torment as crimson sprayed everywhere.
"Hmm, hey Jack, never thought I'd run into you during the wedding." Vritra grinned, halting next to his trio of spouses.
"Ughhh, W-Who in blazes are you? And Fiona, he's no Vritra—why stick with him? Didn't Vritra perish?" Jack figured he could at least avenge himself against this impostor through the real Vritra.
"Haa, so dense—who can't figure it out?" Vritra shook his head, and shortly his features shifted to his former look before snapping back.
"It's me, Vritra." He declared boldly.
"W-What? Impossible—you're faking it. He died for sure." Jack's injury was mending already; he glanced at Fiona, his sole hope for mercy now.
"Eh, believe what you want—it changes nothing. Oh, and Fiona's my spouse." Vritra drew her in tight, planting a gentle peck on her soft crimson lips.
"Nooo, stay off her! Fiona, he's deceiving you!! Trust me, don't buy that he's me. Fiona, I'm the genuine Jack."
Jack wailed in despair, eyeing his longtime infatuation and beloved locked in a kiss with some other man.
"Ha, drop dead. There's just one guy in my heart, my beloved. Quit your fantasies—I've never fancied you and turned down every advance you made."
Fiona snapped irritably, sealing her words with another kiss on Vritra's mouth.
"Goddess, y-you see it all, don't you? He's the vile—" Jack yelled when Vritra abruptly yanked Diana near and claimed her lips as well.
"She's my spouse too, heh." Vritra signaled next.
At once, Maeve, Yasmine, and Teresa appeared, positioning themselves by his side.
"Every one of these stunning beauties is my wife." Vritra eyed Jack, who teetered on the brink of insanity.
'Well, that's plenty of psychological damage for lusting after my women.'
Moments later, Maeve and the rest departed, isolating the pair.
"J-Just spare my life—what's your demand? Y-You can claim Fiona and the others, just don't end me." Jack pleaded. Survival meant he could power up eventually.
And later, he'd slaughter Vritra and—
But his scheming halted abruptly.
"Relax, I'm not ending you. Just planning a bit of angling." With that, Vritra produced a fishing pole.
He flung the bait toward the baffled Jack. It vanished straight into the void hovering over his skull.
Innumerable fine strands linked to him, and Vritra merely needed to snag one.
Though new to this, he swiftly located the correct filament.
His title as Husband of the Fate Reaver let him perceive those destiny lines and shielded him from Teresa's power.
"Got it." Vritra yanked the line fast, ripping the strand away.
"Aaaaaaah" Jack shrieked, sensing his very mind tearing asunder.
Vritra tugged sharply and seized the hero's destiny. Upon contact, it fused into him seamlessly.
Jack suddenly felt an irreplaceable essence vanish from within.
"What did you do?!! S-Something's gone!!" he howled.
Vritra paid no heed, hurling a minuscule dust-forged needle that shattered Jack's mana core instantly.
Agony wracked him worse as blood gushed from the gash, his eyes, nostrils, and lips.
Vritra dabbed a droplet of the blood, and…
[Blood lock activated.]
"Like I said, you're free to go. So savor whatever life throws at you henceforth."
Before Jack could babble more, Vritra hurled him back to the outer realm.
The portal hadn't sealed yet when a fresh one yawned behind Jack, startling Vritra.
Dozens of tentacles surged forth in the blink of an eye.
"You cursed Baldy, I'll ravage you till you drop—how dare you abandon me here and doom me as some exalted offering!!" A hideous roar from Shorty boomed from the depths.
Then Shorty materialized, twisted by mutation.
Jack got dragged in without delay, his cries echoing.
Witnessing this, Vritra merely shook his head and dialed back the Blood Lock's intensity.
Stripped of his heroic aura, retribution hit Jack hard and fast.
"Haa, one more issue resolved. Just one left now." He muttered, vanishing from the domain.
Yennefer had slain merely a fourth of the demons so far, dragging out their demise in torment.
Vritra felt no qualms, but he summoned them all nearer, prompting Yennefer to halt briefly and soar to him.
"Once Yennefer wraps up, we're heading to an extraordinary spot. Get ready, my loves—a thrilling surprise lies in store." He declared, rubbing his hands eagerly to build the tension.
