The Head of the Le Family, frustrated by the City Lord Residence's disrespect, ventures to Qian Jiyun's grand household to confront the couple he suspects are behind it. Arriving with gifts, he is denied entry by the unyielding Paper Person gatekeepers, who toss him away effortlessly under public scrutiny, leaving him humiliated. A concerned citizen warns him of similar fates befalling other families attempting to gain audience, prompting the Head to glare angrily before realizing the futility of forcing his way in and deciding to retreat and replan his approach.

It's not the right moment to provoke that pair, not even for the benefit of the City Lord Residence; we simply must hold back. Once all these issues get settled, that's when he can take care of that couple!

For the time being, though, he ought to return home and address the situation with his useless son.

Things had been proceeding smoothly, but if only that foolish son's temperament had been more restrained, they wouldn't have been barred from even stepping through the City Lord Residence's entrance.

...

"Why am I getting summoned back once more?"

Steward Zhao had gone himself to fetch him, yet during the journey, he avoided any mention of the Master's fury, resorting instead to gentle persuasion to lure him home.

As he entered the study, the Le Family Head had already been unceremoniously rejected at the grand estate's gate. Catching sight of his father, he plopped down onto a nearby chair, helped himself to a cup of tea, and posed the question.

"You worthless fool!"

The Le Family Head flung his paperweight straight at the defiant offspring.

"Ouch!"

Young Master Le reacted a beat too late, caught off guard by his father launching such a hefty item, which promptly split open his brow.

In agony, he let out a yell, and the teapot slipped from his grasp, crashing to the floor.

"Father, what’s this about? Why strike out without warning?" he demanded, pressing one hand to his forehead.

He'd merely stepped out for some drinks, nothing new there. What had driven his father to such frenzy, hurling a massive paperweight like that? Lucky for him his skull was tough; otherwise, the damage could have been severe.

"I was out drinking to build connections. Didn't you mention we'd crossed someone? This is all for the good of our Le Family."

"Without warning? You’ve got the audacity to call it ’without warning’?"

A twinge of regret hit the Le Family Head seeing his son’s blood, but those words from the boy erased any lingering sympathy in an instant.

He had indulged this child far too much, spoiling him beyond repair; how else could he utter nonsense like that?

"Are your legs crippled or something? Can't you use them to walk? You actually thought to ride a carriage right into the City Lord Residence—who instilled that boldness in you? I told you to offer an apology, not to strut around like you own the place!"

He jabbed a finger right at his son’s face.

It infuriated him to no end; how had he fathered such a disappointment?

"Is this on me? It’s got zero connection to what I did."

Young Master Le believed himself blameless—why demand apologies from him when he held no grudge against anyone in the City Lord Residence?

"Steward Zhao’s the one who stirred up the mess, but now I’m supposed to grovel. What about my pride? Father, isn’t that unfair? I’m the young master of the Le Family, after all!"

"You..."

The Le Family Head found himself speechless.

Other families' heirs always showed proper respect to Young City Lord Bai, yet his own boy fancied himself equals with the Young City Lord.

In ordinary times, it might pass without issue.

However, with the Le Family facing such peril now, caution was essential for all—yet this son, far from behaving, only worsened their plight.

"So now you ignore your own father too? I ordered an apology, and you refuse outright?"

"Refuse? It’s the folks at the City Lord Residence who refuse to show me respect." Young Master Le protested his innocence loudly. He hadn’t resisted entering; plainly, it was the City Lord Residence staff denying him entry without cause.
