After Shi Junmian realized he might like Ye Xingyan, he practically granted her every request, but he wasn’t good with words. When Ye Xingyan was sad and helpless, he never knew how to comfort her, so he just kept resenting the Ye Family in his heart.
"What’s she doing here? She really won’t let me go no matter where I am." Ye Xingyan’s eyes drifted toward a certain spot, and she muttered irritably.
"Who?" Shi Junmian looked up and saw Ye Yao and her friends chatting and laughing as they walked over. His face instantly darkened a lot.
"Just wait, I’ll get even for you." Shi Junmian said it like a promise.
Ye Xingyan didn’t know whether it was because she was drunk or because she was tacitly agreeing, but she actually didn’t object.
Ye Yao had come out with classmates today, so she didn’t bring a driver. On her way home she kept feeling something was off, her heart pounding wildly, and just then Ye Qiu called.
"What’s wrong with you? Your voice sounds a little off." Ye Qiu keenly sensed something was wrong and frowned as he asked.
"It’s nothing, I just feel like someone’s following me, but it’s probably my imagination." Ye Yao let out a light laugh, not wanting Ye Qiu to worry.
"Where are you now?"
"On a road not far from school. I’m getting ready to take the bus."
"Then find a place with a lot of people right now, I’ll have Uncle Li pick you up."
"Little Uncle, it’s fine, the bus is here. We’ll talk when I get back."
But two hours later Ye Qiu still hadn’t seen Ye Yao. He immediately took the bodyguards to look for her and called the police at the same time.
"Little Uncle, what’s going on? Why are you so flustered?" Ye Xingyan came out of her room, asked in confusion, and volunteered, "Can I help?"
"No need, it’s nothing serious." Ye Qiu looked deeply at Ye Xingyan. He hoped this had nothing to do with her, but aside from Ye Xingyan, Ye Yao had no one she was on bad terms with. He really couldn’t think of anyone else who would want to hurt Ye Yao.
Being looked at like that by Ye Qiu, Ye Xingyan’s heart instantly panicked. Could it be that Shi Junmian really did something to Ye Yao?!
But what did it have to do with her? It wasn’t like she ordered him to. And even if it was found out, so what? Could Little Uncle really pit the entire Ye Family and Shi Family against each other over one Ye Yao?
Because right before she went missing Ye Yao had just called Ye Qiu, and they knew she was near the school, the police and the bodyguards started checking from the school first. That search actually turned something up.
Ye Yao was trapped in the boys’ restroom. Her condition wasn’t good: she’d been doused with water from head to toe, huddled in a corner, shaking. Her hands and feet were tied, her whole body numb and unable to move.
"Call an ambulance, now!" Ye Qiu flew into a rage at the sight. The girl he had carefully protected had actually been treated like this. There was no way he would let this go easily.
"Officer Duan, I’m counting on you for the investigation. Please be sure to find the culprit."
"I’ve seen him." Ye Yao said through chattering teeth. "He didn’t hide himself. I saw him at the family banquet last time. He’s Ye Xingyan’s friend. And when he kidnapped me, he said it was to warn me not to bully Ye Xingyan. He also said if he found any flaws, he wouldn’t let me off so easily."
"Ye Xingyan’s classmate?" Ye Qiu’s face instantly turned ice-cold and terrifying. He’d known he hadn’t guessed wrong. To dare treat his niece like this—were kids these days all this fearless?
"Mr. Ye, do you still have the surveillance footage from that day?" Officer Duan also felt this matter was extremely serious. Incidents of campus bullying were all too common now, but the hardest part was that the perpetrators were minors, and in the end things usually fizzled out. But for the students who were harmed, letting the perpetrators go was another layer of harm done to them.
This wasn’t the first time Officer Duan had handled such a case. All he could do was find the perpetrator and then educate him and his parents. But more often than not, most parents felt their children hadn’t really done anything wrong, thought it was just a small matter, and weren’t even willing to apologize. Worse still, they would simply move away to give their child a fresh start. But while the offending kids were safe, who was going to comfort and compensate those victims?
He’d seen many child offenders and found they were all either spoiled rotten at home, or their families had no time to discipline them. And after committing one offense, they wouldn’t stop. They knew perfectly well they were minors, so they had zero scruples.
Like this time—broad daylight, and he still dared to kidnap a girl. This was taking contempt for the law and moral norms to the extreme. He was thankful the girl had only been tormented and not violated. How many girls had taken their own lives because they couldn’t cope with being violated? He felt anguish and despair, yet could only watch the perpetrators be taken back home unharmed "to be disciplined."
Ha, discipline? If the parents had truly disciplined them well, how could they do something worse than an animal?
"Yes, we have the surveillance from that day." Ye Qiu untied Ye Yao’s ropes and comforted her softly, "Don’t worry, Little Uncle will see justice done for you."
"Mm." Finally seeing someone she felt safe with, Ye Yao couldn’t withstand the fatigue and exhaustion anymore and fell into a deep sleep sprawled over Ye Qiu’s wheelchair.
"Uncle Li, do you think I’ve been too generous, actually letting them jump around in my house for so long?" Ye Qiu’s tone was icy as he spoke. "They’ve stayed in this house so long they’ve almost forgotten what they are."
Uncle Li tried to speak up for Ye Bai and the others: "Maybe the Eldest Young Master and they didn’t know about this? After all, Miss Ye Yao is their biological daughter."
"If it weren’t for their blatant favoritism, would Ye Xingyan have such nerve?" Ye Qiu sneered. "Since she’s not one of our Ye Family, then she doesn’t need to stay in the Ye Family anymore."
Uncle Li nodded. "This time Miss Xingyan really went too far. It’s only right that Young Master teaches her a lesson."
When she heard Ye Yao had been hospitalized, Ye Xingyan started to feel Heart Palpitation. She couldn’t help texting Shi Junmian: "Did you do something to Ye Yao? She’s in the hospital."
Shi Junmian replied quickly, his attitude very arrogant: "I just taught her a little lesson for you. I told you, I’ll protect you."
Ye Xingyan cursed under her breath and kept typing: "But if you do this, Little Uncle and the others will trace it back to me and blame me!"
"I’m the one who did it. What does it have to do with you? Relax, it’s fine. I’m from the Shi Family. No one can touch me."
Looking at that last sentence, Ye Xingyan could only pray it would be that way, hoping Little Uncle would let it drop for the Shi Family’s sake in the end.
Besides, even if Little Uncle wanted to pursue it, by then Shi Junmian would take all the blame himself. It wasn’t like she’d instigated him. What did it have to do with her? Little Uncle couldn’t just lash out at people for no reason, right?
Even though she thought that way, Ye Xingyan still couldn’t calm down inside. She started regretting why she’d complained to someone as impulsive as Shi Junmian, and why she hadn’t stopped him.
