Lin Lin's paternal grandparents, Han Hui and Ye Peilin, visit for the first time. Despite their past neglect and attempts to sabotage He Xixian's marriage, they awkwardly try to connect with their grandson, offering gifts. Lin Lin shows no recognition, instead calling for his mother, which deeply affects Han Hui and Ye Peilin. They apologize to He Xixian for their past actions and leave without seeing their son, Ye Qiu.

"Why is the house filled with so many things?" Ye Qiu inquired casually upon returning and noticing numerous gifts scattered across the coffee table.

He Xixian’s expression was rather complex as she candidly recounted the morning’s events involving Han Hui and Ye Peilin. "These were all brought by Mom and Dad; they purchased them for me and the child."

While speaking, she revealed the golden trinkets to Ye Qiu. "Later, when I was changing Lin Lin’s clothes, I discovered a bank card concealed within them. I have no idea when it was placed there."

Upon hearing this, Ye Qiu paused momentarily, though his countenance remained unreadable.

He Xixian observed him with concern, asking, "Are you alright? How should we address these items?"

Ye Qiu responded with a calm demeanor, "Since they were given to you and the child, you should keep them."

A flicker of hope crossed He Xixian’s heart, and she tentatively proposed, "What if we take the child to visit Mom and Dad tomorrow?"

"There’s no need," Ye Qiu stated. He was not unaware of his wife’s subtle inquiries but harbored no ill will, believing she was already demonstrating considerable grace. It would be challenging for any ordinary woman to readily forgive after enduring the troubles caused by a father-in-law, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law.

Furthermore, he himself felt little desire to return to that household. One should not impose burdens upon others that they themselves would not wish to bear. The past grievances could not be easily mended with a single apology or act of kindness.

Ye Qiu mused inwardly that if his parents had not experienced the chaos instigated by Ye Qing in this particular lifetime, and if he had continued to support them naively, they might never have truly recognized their errors.

Wasn't his previous life a similar narrative? He toiled endlessly to sustain that household, yet they still deemed him inadequate. Ye Qing, too, had caused significant distress, but he never witnessed them offering even a modicum of consideration towards him. It was only because he had shielded them from Ye Qing’s actions that the consequences did not directly befall them.

When he departed from that home, his father had personally urged him to show no regret and to never return. But now, the roles were reversed; it was they who felt regret.

Ye Qiu couldn’t help but ponder: had he not achieved his current success, would his parents harbor the same depth of guilt they displayed now?

There was no point in dwelling on such thoughts; the damage was already inflicted. If he were to forgive too readily, he couldn’t reconcile it within himself. However, given that they had brought him into this world and raised him, he would not shirk his filial duty to care for them in their old age.

Han Hui and Ye Peilin remained at home in a state of bewilderment, ultimately not receiving their son, his wife, and child. They had only gotten a call from their daughter-in-law before they left, stating that they would visit when the opportunity arose.

"As expected, he still refuses to forgive us," Han Hui said with a bitter smile. However, before she could dwell on the sentiment, two uninvited guests arrived at their home, disrupting her thoughts.

"What are you two doing here again?" she asked, eyeing her daughter and son-in-law with a defensive stance.

"Mom, you’re selling the house? Are you out of your mind?" Ye Qing, in her current condition, bore little resemblance to the once-proud, heavenly princess, now acting more like an unreasonable shrew.

Han Hui frowned at her daughter, struggling to comprehend the drastic change. She had dedicated decades to teaching and her husband was an intellectual. Their daughter, once a graduate of a prestigious institution, now appeared ill-mannered, rude, and utterly selfish.

"This is my house; you don’t need to concern yourself with it. You can go home now," Han Hui stated, attempting to close the door.

But Ye Qing had arrived with the specific intention of addressing this matter and had no intention of leaving so easily. Moreover, this was her home; if she did not consent to the sale, who else could decide? She had resided there for over a decade!

"I won’t permit it. This is my home," Ye Qing declared, pushing her way inside and uncivilly occupying the sofa. "Who gave you permission to sell the house? Do you still consider me your daughter?"

A headache began to form for Han Hui. She felt as though her daughter were under some strange enchantment, completely transformed.

" Your mother and I worked diligently to purchase this residence. It has no bearing on you. Whether we sell it or not is not for you to decide," Ye Peilin retorted, fixing his daughter and son-in-law with a stern glare. Having held leadership positions for many years, he possessed an air of authority that genuinely intimidated the duo.

Ye Qing realized that a forceful approach would be ineffective, so she began to weep, looking at Ye Peilin with feigned grievance. "Dad, do you and Mom not love me anymore? I am your daughter! You once promised that no matter what happened, I would always be your little princess, that you would always cherish me. Have you forgotten those words?"

How could Ye Peilin forget? He would forever recall the sheer joy upon his daughter’s birth and the near tears he shed when she first uttered the word “Dad.” Yet, all that paternal affection had been eroded by her incessant unreasonable demands and her repeated transgressions against family members and relatives all for the sake of a man.

He came to a realization: doting on his daughter was not the same as indulging her every whim, and this permissiveness had ultimately harmed both her and himself.

Fortunately, a path forward still existed. His daughter was deeply attached to the son-in-law who had led her astray. Knowing the son-in-law to be selfish and avaricious, he understood that once his daughter was left with nothing, she would certainly be abandoned. At that point, when she finally saw who truly cared for her, he could bring her back and guide her gently.

However, the time was not yet right. She had not yet endured enough hardship to truly repent. He could not continue to ruin her life out of a misplaced sense of compassion.

"Your second uncle's debts must be settled, and your mother and I have exhausted our funds. We still need to provide for your grandparents. Selling the house is thus the most sensible course of action," Ye Peilin finally explained with forced patience.

"Then where will Wentao and I live once you've sold the house?" Ye Qing pressed, feeling her parents were utterly heartless, prioritizing their successful son and neglecting her in her current predicament. She then turned her plea towards Ye Qiu.

"You two are already a married couple. We provided a generous dowry and substantial investment when you wed. Had you managed those resources wisely, you would not find yourselves without a home now. Furthermore, do you not have your in-laws to turn to?"

"Dad, you expect me to live with Wentao's parents? Didn't you yourself say that a daughter-in-law's greatest fear is enduring hardship under her in-laws' roof? Even if I avoid direct suffering, our differing habits of living would make it unbearable. How could I possibly manage?"

"That is your burden to bear. You are an adult now and must learn to navigate your own life. Take your husband and depart; your mother and I have packing to attend to." Ye Peilin's expression hardened, regretting his earlier leniency as he began to usher them toward the door.

"Very well!" Ye Qing let out a bitter laugh, her eyes narrowing with resentment. "If you parents are truly so heartless, do not blame me for casting you aside in the future. You are the ones driving both your son and daughter away; do not expect me to ever return."

Han Hui and Ye Peilin opened their mouths to speak, but ultimately remained silent. Yes, they had indeed driven away both their son and daughter. Yet, the circumstances differed greatly: one departure stemmed from anger, while the other was the calculated outcome of their own actions. They had once taken pride in their success as individuals, only to witness their greatest failure in parenting, leading to their current desolate old age.
