Ye Qing and her husband, Cao Wentao, desperate after a business failure, demand a large sum of money from Ye Qing's mother, Han Hui. When Han Hui hesitates, Cao Wentao manipulates her, and Ye Qing pressures her, forcing Han Hui to consider borrowing from her own son. Meanwhile, Ye Qing confronts her brother, Ye Qiu, demanding help, but he refuses, citing past mistreatment and their own foolishness. Ye Qiu anticipates the fallout from Cao Wentao's bankruptcy and questions how his parents will cope without his financial support.

Not only did Cao Wentao refuse to repay his debts, but he also dragged Ye Qing back to their hometown. He harbored the belief that the Ye Family was responsible for his company’s downfall. Despite Ye Qiu's considerable wealth and influence, his brother-in-law, Cao Wentao, had refused to offer any assistance. In his mind, if the Ye Family wasn't culpable, then who was?

With his company in ruins, Cao Wentao found himself with no other recourse but to reside at his father-in-law's residence. There, he made demands for either the repayment of his company's debts or continuous support for his entire family.

He spent his days listlessly, alternating between the bed and the sofa, utterly disengaged from any productive activity. Yet, much like Ye Qing, he relished issuing commands to others. One day, he'd desire a particular dish, and the next, something entirely different. Any slight deviation in taste would be met with harsh criticism.

Initially, this behavior was somewhat bearable for a few days. However, Han Hui gradually reached her limit. She was not only tasked with caring for their child but also expected to cater to the whims of this entire extended household. What did they perceive her to be? Thus, today, when Cao Wentao voiced his displeasure, declaring the soup too salty, Han Hui could no longer suppress her mounting frustration.

"Eat it if you want, or else get out of this house."

Cao Wentao casually set down his chopsticks and dabbed his mouth with a napkin. "Mom, you didn't speak like this when I married Ye Qing. You told us we were family. So, Ye Qing can be particular, but I can't? In the end, you still see me as an outsider, or perhaps you're looking down on me now that I'm bankrupt?"

Observing his accusatory tone, Ye Qing interjected, "My mom didn't mean it that way."

"If that wasn't her intention, then why address me in such a manner? When I was managing my company, your parents never treated me this way. Now that I'm bankrupt, after only a few days, they're revealing their true colors?"

"My mom has been incredibly tired lately; please try to understand."

"In this entire household, I am the only one she snaps at. Who is there to understand me? Did I go bankrupt by choice? If your brother had offered even a little help, I wouldn't be in this predicament. I'm beginning to suspect you orchestrated this, leaving me with nothing so you could control me, forcing me into a divorce?" Cao Wentao grumbled without restraint.

Han Hui was on the verge of suggesting a divorce when Ye Qing humbly intervened, "I have no intentions of divorcing you. You're overthinking things. Don't be upset. If you don't wish to eat, we can dine out."

Cao Wentao arched an eyebrow with a smug expression, confident in the knowledge that Ye Qing was dependent on him and could not leave. No matter how much he acted out, this family felt compelled to show him respect.

Witnessing him storm out, Han Hui's anger flared, causing her forehead to vein. "Look at his attitude! We should insist Qingqing divorce him."

"Enough, what's the point in arguing? If Qingqing divorces now, what will outsiders think of the Ye Family?" Ye Peilin stated with irritation. "Can't you just endure it?"

"You're not the one doing the work! Do you have any idea how much I'm doing now? I'm not only helping with the child but also serving your entire family. What have I become?" Han Hui retorted sharply.

"What can I do if you keep shouting at me?" Ye Peilin threw down his chopsticks, equally exasperated. "Do you think I don't want to hire a nanny or a housekeeper? You retired early, but you're not yet eligible for a pension. My salary barely covers our household's expenses, and we still need money for our younger son. Isn't that difficult enough for me?"

"Then find jobs for Qingqing and her husband. I'm getting annoyed seeing them lounging around the house all day."

"Alright, I'll keep an eye out."

Ye Peilin diligently searched for employment opportunities for his daughter and son-in-law, but to no avail. The couple seemed indifferent, accustomed to being served and giving orders. The prospect of working for someone else held little appeal.

Eventually, after cycling through two different jobs, they finally found a place. While the remuneration wasn't substantial, at least the workload was light, and they were spared the need to constantly follow a boss's directives.

Nevertheless, their meager salaries were no match for their persistent high expenses. Ye Peilin's income remained insufficient, and he and his wife began to acknowledge that they might have indulged their daughter and son-in-law excessively.

Now, however, as they aged, their daughter and son-in-law, both in their thirties and at the peak of their lives, were unlikely to heed their advice. Thus, they were forced to swallow their frustrations.

Ye Peilin gradually started to assist his wife with household chores, occasionally washing dishes or retrieving deliveries for his daughter.

"It's so late, and you're still ordering takeout?" he couldn't help but grumble one cold winter evening.

Ye Qing, engrossed in her phone, didn't look up. "I heard that milk tea shop released new products, and I wanted to try them. Dad, what's wrong with you getting it for me?"

"Why don't you go get it yourself?"

"Didn't you say women shouldn't be out in the cold?"

"What about your husband?"

"He has gone to sleep." Ye Qing stated with annoyance, "Oh Dad, why are you so troublesome? Last time, when I asked Ye Qiu to fetch takeout for me, you were quite prompt, even urging him to hurry up. Now you’re so tedious."

"I..." Ye Peilin’s words remained stuck in his throat.

He couldn't help but reminisce about the past; his daughter had always been this way, demanding what she wanted immediately. But those were not his burdens to carry, so he remained indifferent, even taking it for granted.

Realizing that fetching takeout and deliveries could indeed be tiring, especially during this cold, snowy weather, the biting wind seeping into his neck made him question if he had truly been too harsh on his son.

"What’s wrong with you today? Why are you so quiet?" After finally completing his tasks, Han Hui lay down and inquired of her husband.

"Qingqing, has she always been this wayward? Has she never done anything herself?"

Han Hui let out a deep sigh: "Perhaps we have spoiled her too much. Why are you suddenly asking this?"

"Qingqing asked me to grab takeout for her today; has she always ordered Ye Qiu around like this?"

"Probably. I’ve overheard it mentioned twice during arguments."

"Perhaps, we were excessively strict and neglectful of him too."

"That’s why he isn’t close to us now! Her sister-in-law met me today."

"About what?"

"It’s regarding the thirty thousand. What else could it be? But where would we possibly find that money now?"

Upon hearing this, Ye Peilin fell silent for a considerable period. After a moment, Han Hui tentatively asked, "Should we approach Ye Qiu?"

"After the way we've treated him, asking him for money now... my pride simply won't permit it."

"Then what is your suggestion?"

"Stop giving Qingqing an allowance, and make those two pay for their own living expenses."

"Will they even pay?"

"If they refuse, they'll have to move out," Ye Peilin declared firmly.

"Are you truly willing to see Qingqing suffer?"

"I must. If it means Cao Wentao might divorce her, all the better."

"Ah!" Han Hui sighed profoundly, electing to remain silent. She could already foresee the reactions of their daughter and son-in-law when the topic of living expenses arose the following day.
