Ye Peilin and Han Hui are shocked to discover their son, Ye Qiu, is the provincial top scorer in the science category. They recall wrongly scolding him and neglecting his academic progress, realizing they favored their daughter, Ye Qing, over him. Both elite universities, Q and A, are vying to recruit Ye Qiu.

After his classes concluded, Ye Qiu decided against heading straight home. Instead, he utilized a computer at the training school to retrieve his college entrance examination score. Upon seeing his total score of 725, he inclined his head in satisfaction, a result that caused a considerable stir within the educational institution.

"I remember last year's top scorer in the science stream achieved 712 points, and that was after receiving an additional ten points from competition wins. Ye Qiu, you didn't engage in any competitions, did you? Let me quickly check this year's highest science score." At the same moment, another instructor exclaimed, "Perfect marks in both mathematics and science? I had heard the questions this year were somewhat simplified compared to previous years, but those were merely the initial, basic ones; the final few complex problems were by no means easy. Did you manage to solve them all correctly?"

"It's somewhat regrettable that the Chinese language subject brought your score down. Had it been a bit higher, this score could have been even more outstanding."

"I've found it! This year's top scorer in the science stream is indeed 725 points. Ye Qiu, you are this year's top science scorer!"

The escalating cheers drew the attention of tutoring students and parents who had not yet departed. Each of them listened with a sense of disbelief, realizing that the individual instructing their children was, in fact, this year's top scorer in science. What an immense honor!

"That's correct, I saw it as well. The report displayed here prominently features Ye Qiu's name. Ye Qiu, didn't your school erect banners? Did no one inform you?"

Ye Qiu offered a helpless smile. "I do not possess a mobile phone, so they likely couldn't reach me. I need to head home now. Thank you all for your concern."

At this opportune moment, a parent, approaching from outside, inquired, "Top scorer, will you still be teaching tomorrow?"

Ye Qiu affirmed with a smile. "I will. I'll be here throughout the summer; since everyone places their trust in me for their learning, I wouldn't abandon them halfway."

"Could you perhaps copy your high school notes for us? Even if not, could you at least impart your study methods to our children?"

"If everyone finds it beneficial, I have no objections." He stated this with utter straightforwardness, showing no inclination to hoard his knowledge.

The parents and students erupted in immediate joy; these were the top scorer's notes, something unobtainable even with ample funds outside. The top scorer was sharing them so freely, truly befitting his first-place standing; his magnanimity was exceptional.

"I'll be giving you a raise." The proprietor of the training school placed a hand on Ye Qiu's shoulder, a smile gracing his lips. He revealed that this exceptional student had been recommended by a friend. Because that friend had vouched for him, he had taken a calculated risk in allowing him to teach. Unexpectedly, Ye Qiu had presented him with such a tremendous surprise; this was akin to having a live advertisement!

Ye Qiu did not decline the offer; after all, his initial salary had been lower than the standard rate. Now, holding the prestigious title of the province's top science scorer, a salary increase was entirely justified.

"I've noticed you don't have a phone, which makes it rather inconvenient to contact you. Here, I'll settle your outstanding wages, and you can use the funds to acquire a phone for yourself!"

Ye Qiu's smile widened. "Thank you, boss."

He genuinely required funds at this moment; the absence of a phone presented significant inconveniences. However, beyond a phone, he also desperately needed a high-performance computer. Once this summer's tutoring concluded, he should be capable of purchasing one.

Ye Qiu returned to his residence, and upon opening the door, he observed the other three occupants gazing at him with complex expressions, clearly on the verge of speaking. Sensing this, he understood they must have become aware of his college entrance examination results.

"Why are you returning so late today?" His mother, Han Hui, addressed him with an uncharacterently gentle and kind tone. "Come and eat; the dishes have grown cold."

"I've already eaten," Ye Qiu responded, his gaze lowered.

Ye Peilin frowned, a habitual tone of reproach evident. "Don't you realize your family has been waiting for you? Even if you've eaten, have a little more."

"Lately, I've been dining out; haven't you all grown accustomed to this? Why would you wait for me?" Ye Qiu inquired, his eyes meeting theirs with clarity but devoid of emotion.

Ye Qing felt a flicker of guilt under his gaze, so she attempted to placate him. "Mother prepared some excellent dishes today, hoping you would return home to eat. Is there something wrong with that? Such a display of temper, just set down your belongings and come eat; this is the chicken soup Mother specially prepared for you."

Ye Qiu ceased speaking. Everyone present was aware of the underlying reason for their waiting for him to eat; wasn't it precisely because he had attained the top score in the provincial science examinations?

"This is the chicken soup you love the most. I simmered it for over two hours; the chicken meat is incredibly tender, do try some." Han Hui ladled a generous bowl for him, and uncharacteristically, both he and Ye Qing received a chicken leg each this time.

He regarded the soup bowl with a sigh of resignation and stated, "Mother, you are mistaken; the one who adores chicken soup is my sister, not me."

Han Hui paused, a flicker of surprise in her eyes. "Is that so? Didn't you always request chicken legs before?"

Ye Qiu responded with candid honesty, "Back then, it was because you gave both chicken legs to my sister; I felt envious and wanted to compete for them. Now that I've grown, I no longer desire them, thus I don't compete."

"Is that so?" Han Hui paused in her actions and then inquired, "Well, what foods do you fancy? Mom will prepare them for you next time."

Upon uttering these words, she sensed a discordance. So many years had passed, and her son was already eighteen; how could she not know his culinary preferences?

"Anything is acceptable; I am not particular. There is no need for you to specifically cook for me; the tutoring institution provides all three daily meals." He added, while slowly sipping the soup with an unexpressive countenance, appearing to hold little fondness for it.

"That is not advisable; meals at tutoring institutions are prepared in large batches, lacking both health and nutritional value."

Ye Qiu once more deflected her kindness, stating, "I have always managed in this manner."

Han Hui ceased her speech. She remained uncertain if her son harbored any resentment, given his consistently measured tone, but it was undeniably her oversight.

"Let us eat first; it is best to converse less while dining," Ye Peilin remarked, observing his wife's perplexity, and internally chided his son for his lack of tact. Despite possessing excellent academic results, his demeanor was truly unappealing; how had he managed to raise such a vexing individual?

Ye Qing observed the transformation of her parents' joy into silence, unsure of whether she felt pleased or displeased. To be truthful, upon learning that her brother had achieved the highest score in the college entrance examinations, she had felt a flicker of apprehension, fearing her parents might begin to favor her brother and neglect her.

Yet, fortunately, her brother's character remained unlikable. She hoped her parents would understand that no matter how bright her brother's future prospects might be, she, their daughter, would perpetually be their closest confidante, the one they could depend on in their twilight years.

Following the meal, Ye Qiu undertook his customary duty of clearing the dishes, but Han Hui intercepted him, saying, "I will handle it."

Ye Qiu questioned, "What is amiss with you today? You offered me chicken legs earlier, and now you are preventing me from washing the dishes?"

His direct inquiry left Han Hui even more uncertain of her response. Should she confess that she had previously presumed her son's academic performance was poor, thus assigning him more chores to instill a sense of responsibility?

Now aware of his top-scoring achievement, did she feel remorse for encroaching upon his study time?

Contemplating this, Han Hui truly recognized that her son had limited opportunities for academic pursuits at home. If he wasn't engaged in chores, his sister would invariably summon him for errands. Despite these distractions, he still attained the highest score; was his diligence at school truly that exceptional?
