Quick Transmigration: Drama Queen's Daily Life Chapter 1116 - 1105: Favoring Daughters Over Sons

Upon returning home with a glum expression, Ye Qing inevitably faced a scolding from Ye Peilin.
Ye Peilin, a parent utterly devoted to his daughter, never denied Ye Qing anything she desired. Should Ye Qing exhibit even the slightest displeasure, he would ensure the cause of her unhappiness suffered even more, and that person was invariably Ye Qiu.
Han Hui, while generally more balanced in the family, still showed favoritism. Since Ye Qing's birth, Han Hui's standing within the family and her mother-in-law's demeanor towards her had shifted, leading her to also spoil her daughter immensely.
However, unlike Ye Peilin, whose scolding was directed solely at his son, Han Hui would console Ye Qiu when his father berated him, advising him not to take it to heart. This, while seemingly easing the tension, actually came at Ye Qiu's expense to preserve family peace.
Ye Qiu had long perceived the dynamics at play and therefore remained unfazed by his father Ye Peilin's reprimands or his mother Han Hui's attempts at comfort. He stood silently in a corner, unmoving even as his legs grew numb.
Naturally, Ye Qiu missed dinner. Yet, deep in the night, Ye Qing surprisingly prepared a bowl of instant noodles for him.
"I'm sorry, I didn't realize Dad would get so furious," she apologized sheepishly. "I made you some instant noodles, please eat them."
"No need, I'm not hungry."
"You're still angry with me, aren't you?" Ye Qing lamented. "I've already spoken with Dad; you don't have to stand in the corner anymore. You have school tomorrow!"
He was acutely aware that the next day marked the start of school. Still, this family rarely showed consideration for him, a high school senior. The entire summer, had he not deliberately avoided Ye Qing, he would never have enjoyed a moment of peace to focus on his studies. Even so, his parents frequently interrupted him, insisting he accompany Ye Qing on shopping trips or run errands for her.
Today, he had done nothing wrong. Simply because Ye Qing returned home displeased, he not only went without a meal but was also subjected to standing punishment. Did they believe a bowl of instant noodles would mend everything? Was his worth truly so little to them?
"I won't eat. It's late, I'm going to sleep now," Ye Qiu stated expressionlessly.
Ye Qing pouted, visibly unhappy. "You're still mad at me."
"Shouldn't I be?" Ye Qiu countered, leaving Ye Qing momentarily speechless.
She argued, "Dad cares about me, and we're siblings, aren't we? How can you possibly be angry with me?"
"So, you can treat me like a plaything? Don't assume I don't know; you did it because your friends were watching, wanting to show off how you could order me around."
"I just wanted others to witness our close sibling bond."
"Was that truly necessary?"
"Can't you just make me happy for once?"
"Forget it, you still don't understand. You eat the instant noodles; I don't want them."
"But you used to eat them."
"That was in the past. You used to adore wearing princess dresses; do you still have a fondness for them now?"
Ye Qing found herself without a proper response. Her past love for princess dresses stemmed from her childhood innocence. Now that she was older, donning such attire would only invite ridicule. How could such a comparison even hold?
"That brat. His sister offers him a way out, and he fails to appreciate it. What reason does he have to be upset?" Ye Peilin, who had been eavesdropping, grumbled, preparing to emerge and reprimand Ye Qiu.
Han Hui swiftly restrained him, "Alright, let them sort out their sibling squabble themselves. Have you seen the time? Both children have school tomorrow!"
After Ye Qing departed for university and began residing in the dormitory, her visits home were generally confined to weekends, granting Ye Qiu a considerable reprieve. Even then, Ye Peilin would delegate all household chores to him, citing it as a form of character training.
Ye Qiu harbored no objections. With Ye Qing absent, his chores were completed much more swiftly, posing no hindrance to his studies. However, he couldn't help but ponder: once he eventually left this household, considering Ye Qing's upbringing of entitlement, Ye Peilin's ingrained patriarchal attitudes, and Han Hui's demanding career as a teacher, who would then manage the domestic affairs?
And when Ye Qing eventually married and brought home a husband who also expected to be catered to daily, with neither of them willing to lift a finger, would the household remain as tranquil without his contributions?
He surmised it would likely persist unchanged. Given the profound doting of his parents on Ye Qing, they would scarcely burden her with chores. Furthermore, adhering to their logic, a son-in-law was to be treated as an honored guest, thus absolved from any manual labor. The responsibility would inevitably fall upon the aging parents to shoulder the burden.
Ye Qiu felt no particular sympathy. Ultimately, these were consequences of their own choices. Yet, he resolved that they would not exploit him for the remainder of his life.
Although the duration of his senior year in high school often felt interminable, it ultimately passed in the blink of an eye. Despite the prevailing discontent at home, Ye Qiu achieved significant academic strides. His efforts proved remarkably fruitful, rendering his time at school both engaging and successful.
In the estimation of his teachers and classmates, he was the most probable candidate for admission to elite universities. However, his own family held no such optimistic conviction.
"The college entrance exam is fast approaching. Do you feel confident about it?" Han Hui inquired, his tone subtle.
Before Ye Qiu could offer a response, Ye Peilin interjected with a frown, "Your academic performance has consistently lagged behind your sister's. I doubt your ability to gain admission to her university. It would be wise to select a sensible major and refrain from venturing out of state. Your inexperience makes facing diverse challenges elsewhere difficult. Remaining local ensures your sister and I can provide support."
"My teacher mentioned that I've shown considerable improvement this year," Ye Qiu stated quietly in his own defense.
Ye Qing regarded him with hesitation. "Brother, we ought to be realistic and avoid the arrogance others display."
"Your sister is correct. You are still very young; why deceive your family? Heed my advice and enroll in an accounting program. Dedicate yourself to obtaining an accounting certificate. Post-graduation, I can arrange for a senior accountant at my company to mentor you." Ye Peilin had already charted a course for Ye Qiu, firmly believing it to be the optimal path given his son’s perceived capabilities.
"I have no interest in accounting. My aspiration is to study computer science; I've been intending to apply for a computer science major. My teacher even suggested I look into Q University." Ye Qiu attempted once more to convey that his academic standing was not as dire as they perceived, though this only seemed to intensify their anger.
"Are you contemplating repeating a year? You fabricate claims about your teacher's suggestions. Do you presume we are unaware of your actual grades?" Ye Peilin shot back, his voice laced with anger.
Ye Qiu turned his gaze back, replying, "Are you aware? You didn't even attend the last parent-teacher meeting. The teacher stated that my progress has been substantial."
"Do you genuinely believe a minor improvement qualifies you for a top-tier university? How has our Ye Family come to have someone as excessively ambitious as you?"
"Brother, apologize to Dad immediately, lest the entire family face mockery once the results are announced," Ye Qing signaled to Ye Qiu.
Ye Qiu remained resolute, unwavering. "Then you shall discover the truth when the results are revealed. I will not relinquish my dreams nor my chosen major."
