Put Away Your Divine Techniques Now! Chapter 1495 - 447: Purgatory Arena (3)
Previously on Put Away Your Divine Techniques Now!...
They, like magicians, pushed out a batch of parts from the van, then assembled them into several carts, and thus began searching the street.
Whenever they found gun parts left behind, they picked them up and gave them a glance. If they were unusable, they simply discarded them — but not before removing the magazine if it was still intact.
These battlefield cleaners were clearly trained; they efficiently sorted the weapons collected from the battlefield into those usable and those that weren’t.
The usable ones were placed whole in a cart, while the unusable ones had their magazines immediately removed on the spot.
Those completely beyond use were left where they lay.
Watching this scene, Chen Yan understood...
The Mayor of Gusanka City was finished!
This was undoubtedly a long-planned and thoroughly prepared operation.
This was far from a mere conflict or spontaneous eruption of hostilities.
It was a coup!
With such extensive preparation, the Mayor, who had been kept in the dark all along, was bound to be ruined after losing so many troops.
Comprehending the outcome, Chen Yan, like a bird, flapped his wings and soared into the sky, heading toward the North District.

The city hall was already in chaos.
In the large conference room on the first floor, the original leaders of Gusanka City had gathered, each with panic and urgency written across their faces.
These individuals were actually the local elite; some were in the restaurant business, owning several eateries in the North District.
Some worked in food supply, others in construction...
In essence, this group controlled the lifeline of Gusanka City, day in and day out.
Naturally, they all held corresponding positions within city hall.
But tonight’s disorder left them all shaken.
The midnight explosion and the news—or rather, the lack of news—from the front line severed communication completely.
This situation caused the courage they had mustered before nightfall during the Mayor’s muscle-flexing and posturing to utterly dissipate.
They might’ve controlled the city’s vital points, but they were all dependent on the strong-handed Mayor!
Without the mines controlled by the Mayor’s family and several thousand armed troops, they were merely bluffers.
Some had been startled awake by the explosion at night and rushed to the city hall, gathering here in a noisy frenzy, yet none could devise a solution.
They hadn’t even laid eyes on the Mayor himself.
Inside the conference room stood a tall, skinny black man, dressed in military attire, indifferently watching these quarreling figures.
This man was the Mayor’s adjutant and secretary, ever-present shadow in the Mayor’s daily life.
This night, he greeted the summoned leaders but only ushered them into the conference room, informing them the Mayor was busy with urgent matters and would meet them afterward.
Apart from this, no one could extract another word from him.
·
The city hall building was the colonial-era Governor’s Mansion. This building, with a strong sense of French style, appeared externally as the most beautiful structure in Gusanka City, unmatched.
Iits interior decoration was equally stunning.
Behind the city hall, on the third floor of the Governor’s Mansion’s main building, inside a study room, the Mayor had just angrily thrown down the telephone.
This authoritative Mayor of Gusanka, resembling the region’s typical minor African warlords, looked fierce and intimidating.
Yet, his figure had inevitably grown corpulent.
In his youth, he too was robust, like a lion or leopard, but like all impoverished minor warlords, once they gained authority, they seemed to compensate for their tough early days by indulging excessively in pleasures.
Now, only just in middle age, his formerly formidable physique had long transformed into a barrel-like obesity.
The contours of his features retained some of his youthful fierceness, but the double chin and fleshy cheeks robbed his face of at least seventy percent of its former intimidation.
Combined with typical African features: thick lips and a flat nose, and the sheen of oily sweat due to nervousness and apprehension, this Mayor who usually showed strength, now seemed somewhat weak and unkempt.
After the Mayor tossed aside the phone, the door to the study knocked. Following that, the door was pushed open.
At the moment the door opened, the Mayor instinctively reached for the pistol on the desk.
This was his usual sidearm, its casing entirely gold.
But upon recognizing the person entering, the Mayor released the grip on the gun.
The doorway revealed a tall, slender figure, his adjutant and secretary.
"Those fools have been temporarily settled in the conference room, but it’s quite noisy."
The adjutant’s expression seemed unpleasant as he whispered to the Mayor, "General, we need to make a decision quickly."
The Mayor exhaled heavily, irritably opening a drawer, but discarded the cigar he found annoyedly.
He beckoned to the adjutant: "Give me a cigarette!"
The adjutant retrieved a packet of Marlboros from his pocket and handed it over.
Taking the packet with slightly trembling fingers, the Mayor plucked out a cigarette, ignited it, and after inhaling sharply twice, some of the agitation and unease in his eyes slightly subsided: "Still no news from the front lines?"
The adjutant’s expression darkened: "The people sent to assist haven’t returned — however, I just called the guards on the bridge, they told me they heard gunfire from the North District a few minutes ago. The gunfire was dense, but short-lived, then ceased.
Judging by the timing, it should have been a brief skirmish, so I suspect our dispatched group ran into an ambush, then..."
"Then they were all finished." The Mayor grumbled viciously.
After a pause, he lifted his head, glanced at his adjutant: "So, both battalions are finished, aren’t they?"
"..." The adjutant stayed silent, hesitated then: "Right now, it’s just that we’ve lost contact, we’ve been unable to reach them... so perhaps, perhaps they... aren’t necessarily..."
