Jeanne returned to the Lawrence family manor with her son George, enduring mockery from relatives and a feigned welcome from stepmother Jenifer. She glimpsed her sister Jasmine arriving with fiancé Eden, stirring old tensions. Grandfather Jonathan arranged her marriage to Thedus Locke, a former criminal, to address family financial woes, which Jeanne accepted with a probing question and a menacing grin.

Jeanne stepped out from Jonathan’s room and made her way toward her own.

As she walked along, a figure suddenly blocked her path, compelling her to halt.

The man she once loved deeply stood there, exuding confidence and arrogance.

Jeanne and Eden had grown up side by side, starting their romance back in high school. Their bond stayed solid over the years, with only minor arguments typical of young lovers.

Monica often remarked that only someone as patient as Eden could handle Jeanne’s fiery personality.

Eden had adored her once, but shockingly, he wound up in Jasmine’s arms. The scandal raced through the city like wildfire.

It hit Jeanne like a massive humiliation.

Her boyfriend got stolen, yet everyone painted Jasmine as the innocent one—all due to her stepmother Jenifer’s twisted storytelling.

Jeanne’s bold nature back then meant she refused to swallow the lies, so she created a huge uproar that shamed the family. That event stripped her of all she had.

Once everything crumbled, she declared she’d pursue Edward, the fourth master of the Swan family, forcing Eden and Jasmine to address her as aunt.

No matter the details, those days lay buried in the past, far from pleasant recollections.

Luckily, years overseas had schooled her well. She mastered reining in her anger and grasped the value of tolerance and perseverance.

“Jeannie,” Eden greeted her in that gentle, affectionate tone.

Jeanne offered him a smile—simple and devoid of feeling.

“It’s been ages since we last met. How are you doing?” Eden inquired lightly, like chatting with an old pal or kin.

Jeanne replied icily, “It’s none of your business.”

“We used to be in love. I truly want you to be happy too.”

“I believe you know why I’m summoned back to South Hampton,” Jeanne stated, arching a brow.

“I know that Thedus isn’t a good person.”

Jeanne stayed silent.

“If our relationship hadn’t ended in that mess, you wouldn’t face this now.”

“It’s okay, Mr. Swan. You don’t need to blame yourself. I’m happy that I was able to cut ties with you.”

“As stubborn as always, I see. If it wasn’t for your temper, I wouldn’t have fallen for Jasmine in the first place,” Eden said with a sour look.

The man cheated on her and yet he made it sound like he was the victim.

“In my opinion, marrying Thedus is better than marrying a man who can’t control his d*ck.”

“Why try to act tough? If you really don’t want the wedding to happen, you can beg me and I can help you,” Eden said with a sincere look.

Jeanne chuckled in disdain before she walked away, leaving Eden embarrassed.

Eden sympathized with Jeanne. Although the fallout back then hurt a lot of people, after so many years, Eden was prepared to put them all behind. However, Jeanne’s rock-hard attitude gave him a second thought.

‘She’s pretending to be tough right? She must be!’

He turned around to Jeanne and said coldly, “If you let me have sex with you, I wouldn’t have gone for Jasmine back then!”

Jeanne froze.

Eden added, “Where’s your integrity now? Where’s your pride now? You came back with a son. Don’t you think that’s very pretentious of you?”

Jeanne turned around to Eden.

The moment she saw the person that appeared behind Eden, the words that she prepared were replaced by something harsher. She wore a sharp grin and said, “So, you f*cked Jasmine because I didn’t let you f*ck me?”

Eden frowned.

Jasmine also glared at Jeanne from behind Eden.

Before Eden could say a word, Jasmine spoke with her sweet voice, “Eden, what are you guys talking about?”

Her sweet voice froze Eden’s words.

She went up to him and curled his arm with hers like an obedient woman, looking innocent and cute.

“Just catching up, you know,” Eden showed a loving smile at her.

Jeanne stood there and watched their lovey-dovey interaction. Her lips were still curled into a beautiful smile.

After flirting with each other for a while, Jasmine finally remembered Jeanne’s existence. She asked, “Sis, welcome back. I really missed you. If it wasn’t what I did back then you… Anyway, my bad.”

Her eyes started to tear up.

Jeanne watched quietly. The smile on her face remained.

It was that bland smile that left Jasmine in a sour state.

‘What’s with that smile? Is she mocking me?’

Things got awkward for a moment.

Jeanne said, “I’ve been flying for more than 10 hours now. I want to have some rest.”

She did not answer or show any response to Jasmine and simply walked away.

Jasmine glared at Jeanne from the back. She turned around to Eden and asked, “Is it me or she’s different now?”

“I think she has learned her lesson,” Eden voiced his speculation.

Jasmine chuckled. “I guess so. Maybe she learned how to be a good girl now.”

She considered herself lucky for Jeanne, convinced that her stepsister had finally learned her lesson; otherwise, getting booted from the manor would be the least of her worries this time.

Jeanne refused to react to Jasmine and Eden because they didn't deserve her attention. They amounted to nothing more than her cheating ex and the stepsister who attempted to scar her face at her lowest point.

Upon entering her room, she spotted George perched on the expansive bed, his little legs swinging freely off the edge. He waited patiently for her, idle and unoccupied.

Jeanne inquired, “Are you sleepy?”

“A little.”

“Go take a bath. We’ll sleep together tonight.”

“Okay.” George jumped down.

Jeanne began unpacking the clothes.

George proved to be a self-sufficient child, handling his own needs adeptly despite being only six years old.

He entered the bathroom and switched on the bathtub faucet.

Jeanne stepped in and caught her son bare.

George shyly shielded his body as his cheeks turned crimson.

“Are you shy?” Jeanne grinned.

Even a prodigy like George couldn't escape the bashfulness of basic instincts.

“Mom, please go out. I’m a boy and you’re a woman.”

Jeanne shrugged and exited, leaving her son in peace. She had merely worried about George's adjustment to the new surroundings, yet what of her own?

Could she truly adjust to this place that had once betrayed her so viciously?

Still, it made no difference. She had returned solely to seize back everything that belonged to her!
