Fleeing an encounter, the group escaped to a rooftop where they called for an exfiltration helicopter. While ascending, Madeline struggled with her fear of heights. Just as they reached the chopper, an attack began, with a rocket destroying the backup helicopter and another hitting their own.

I didn’t hesitate. "Everyone, hold on to me!" I grabbed both Madeline and Daisy tightly and jumped from the failing chopper just before it careened toward the nearby rooftop.

We hit the surface hard, rolling across gravel. The crashing chopper continued its deadly path, threatening to collide.

It was a ten-story drop to the street. I secured Madeline on my left and Daisy on my right.

"This is going to be rough—trust me!" I shouted. We leaped off the edge. Wind roared past as we plummeted toward a parked car below.

I twisted mid-air, landing with my back crashing heavily onto the vehicle’s roof. Metal crumpled with a deafening , windows shattering from the force. The car alarm blared wildly.

Madeline coughed violently from the jarring impact, gasping and clutching her chest. "Ahh... it hurts... my ribs..." she whimpered, her face contorted in pain and shock. "We jumped from a helicopter... again! How are we even alive? I thought we were all going to die up there!"

Daisy let out a weak, pained "Hmm..." trying to stay conscious.

I checked them urgently. "Are you guys okay? Talk to me!"

Daisy managed a faint nod. "I’m... still here."

Madeline’s voice cracked with lingering terror. "Hmm... aah... everything hurts... but I’m breathing. Dexter, you saved us again..."

Daisy looked at me with concern despite her own pain. "Dexter... are you okay? That landing..."

I nodded quickly, already moving. "We don’t have time. Let’s get away from here first before more show up."

I lifted Madeline into a princess carry, her arms wrapping around my neck as she pressed her face against my chest, still sobbing quietly. "I feel so weak... but I trust you," she whispered. I smashed the window of a nearby sedan, hot-wired it in seconds, and we sped off into the night.

It was well past midnight when we finally found a rundown local motel on the outskirts of the city. The neon sign flickered weakly as I pulled into the lot. We booked a room under a false identity, paying cash to avoid any traces.

Once inside the dimly lit room, Daisy immediately sat at the small table and began contacting the White House and security team on her secure line. "This is Daisy. Primary is alive but compromised. New coordinates needed for exfil. Hostiles have heavy ordnance."

I turned to Madeline and noticed her injuries more clearly under the light—her knees were badly scraped and raw, bleeding freely, and there was a nasty cut along her thigh with blood trickling down. "You’re hurt pretty badly, Ma’am," I said, concern evident in my tone.

I glanced at Daisy. "Daisy, help Ma’am clean those wounds. And how long until the next team gets here?"

But then I noticed Daisy clutching her hand tightly against her stomach, her face deathly pale and covered in a sheen of cold sweat. Beads of perspiration rolled down her temples, and her breathing had grown shallow and labored.

I instantly moved to her, grasping her head gently but firmly with both hands to steady her. Blood was seeping steadily through her fingers, staining her tactical gear a dark crimson.

"I’m fine..." Daisy muttered weakly, her voice barely above a whisper. She tried to brush it off with a forced, pained smile, attempting to pull away. "Just a scratch... focus on Ma’am instead."

"I don’t believe that for a second," I replied, my tone leaving no room for argument. I carefully lifted the hem of her shirt, peeling the fabric away from the wound.

The sight revealed a jagged piece of glass, at least two inches long, deeply embedded in her stomach from the crashes and flying debris earlier. The edges of the laceration were ragged and inflamed, blood pulsing out with every heartbeat.

"OMG!" Madeline screamed in horror, stumbling back a step with her hands flying to her mouth. Her eyes widened in pure shock, pupils dilated with terror.

"Daisy! There’s glass inside you! Oh my God, so much blood... No, this is too much!" She began trembling violently again, fresh tears pouring down her already tear-streaked face. Her legs nearly gave out as she backed into the wall.

"Dexter, you have to fix her! Please don’t let her die... I can’t lose her, too! She’s been protecting me this whole time!"

Daisy gasped sharply in pain as I helped her lie down on the worn motel bed, her body stiffening. "You stay still..." I ordered gently but authoritatively, pressing a hand on her shoulder to keep her from moving. "Don’t fight it. I’ve got you."

I rushed to the small bathroom, heart pounding, and flung open the mirror cabinet with such force that the door banged against the wall.

I grabbed the basic first aid kit, spilling its contents—bandages, gauze, antiseptic wipes, and scissors—onto the counter in my haste. Returning quickly to the bedside, I knelt beside Daisy.

Without warning, I poured alcohol directly over the wound. Daisy arched in agony, her back bowing off the mattress as a sharp, guttural cry tore from her throat.

"Aaaahhh!" The sound was raw and involuntary, her face contorting in excruciating pain. Her fists clenched the bedsheets so tightly that her knuckles turned white, and her legs twitched uncontrollably.

"It burns... God, it burns so much..." she gasped through gritted teeth, tears leaking from the corners of her eyes despite her efforts to stay stoic.

I offered her my arm immediately. "Bite down hard. This is going to hurt like hell." I temporarily eased Eternal Vitality in that specific area so she wouldn’t damage her teeth on unbreakable skin.

Daisy shook her head weakly, sweat dripping down her face. "No... Dexter, you don’t have to— I can handle it..." Her voice was fading, the pain clearly overwhelming her.

I pressed my arm firmly against her lips anyway. In one swift, decisive motion, I pulled the glass shard out. Blood gushed freely from the open wound, spilling onto the towel I had placed beneath her.

I poured more alcohol on it immediately to disinfect the area thoroughly. Daisy bit down hard, her muffled scream vibrating intensely against my skin as her teeth sank in. Blood welled up from the fresh bite marks on my forearm, but I ignored the pain, focusing entirely on her.

Madeline stood frozen a few feet away, completely shocked by the brutal, intimate scene unfolding before her. "Oh God... the blood is everywhere... Daisy, I’m so sorry..." she whispered hoarsely, her voice breaking into sobs.

She hugged herself tightly, rocking slightly back and forth as fresh waves of trauma washed over her. "I hate this... all this pain because of me. Please hold on, Daisy. You’re so strong... I don’t know what I’d do without you."
