Permanent Martial Arts Chapter 5 - Lin Feng’s Power
Previously on Permanent Martial Arts...
“Dr. Liu, has something happened?”
Both Lin Xiong and Luo Xiuting were visibly anxious, their eyes fixed on Dr. Liu’s changing expression.
Setting the medical report aside, Dr. Liu spoke with a look of pure bewilderment. “This is highly unusual. Something is definitely off. According to these results, Young Master Feng’s internal organs are continuing to fail, showing no signs of improvement. However, his physical body has undergone a massive transformation—his cells, in particular, are vibrating with an incredible amount of energy. It’s completely abnormal.”
Dr. Liu seemed to struggle with his words, hesitating as he spoke. He spent a considerable amount of time explaining through complex medical jargon, which left the family confused at first. However, as he broke down the details, the reality of the situation became clear to everyone.
The underlying disease had not vanished, and Lin Feng’s organs were still deteriorating. In spite of that, his body no longer resembled that of a terminal patient. His cells were overflowing with vitality, and his frame was charged with immense power. Simply put, the current Lin Feng possessed extraordinary strength.
The contradiction was glaring. Lin Feng was supposed to be deathly ill. In the past, his constitution was so frail it didn’t even meet the standards of an average adult. Now, for some reason, he was several times stronger than a healthy man. Dr. Liu was understandably baffled.
Lin Xiong reflected for a moment before asking, “Dr. Liu, are you saying that while Feng’er’s illness remains, his physical strength has grown to a level that defies logic?”
“Uh… yes, that is precisely the case.”
This was the source of Dr. Liu’s hesitation. He couldn’t quite bring himself to say that it should be impossible for someone as sickly as Lin Feng to possess such a powerful physique.
“Dr. Liu, what if Feng’er has achieved some level of success in his Cultivation and martial arts?”
“Success in martial arts? If that were the case, then this might actually make sense…”
Dr. Liu was momentarily stunned. Considering this possibility, he began to understand. The Lin family held great influence; perhaps they had secured a method for Lin Feng’s martial arts to progress at an incredible pace. It wasn’t entirely out of the question.
“Very well, Dr. Liu. We appreciate you coming.”
Once Dr. Liu had been escorted out, the family gathered around Lin Feng. Without waiting for them to press him, Lin Feng took the initiative to speak. “I have indeed gained some new insights into my martial arts recently. I feel a surge of energy throughout my body and I no longer feel exhausted. It’s as if I’m not sick at all.”
Deep down, however, Lin Feng knew this was a facade. He remained a critically ill patient for whom no cure existed. It appeared that even merging with the Wild Bovine genes was insufficient to heal his mysterious condition.
Yet, the discovery of the genetic fusion device had reignited his hope for Cultivation. As long as he could pursue martial arts and utilize the device, he could advance his strength step by step. There was a chance he could eventually break the genetic lock and reach the Inhuman level. At that stage, his strange illness would surely be resolved.
He had three years left. Three years to shatter the genetic lock and transcend humanity. Lin Feng wasn't sure if such a feat had ever been accomplished before, but with no other options, he had to give it his all.
A faint smile touched Lin Xiong’s lips. He gave Lin Feng a meaningful look and said, “Feng’er, your progress in martial arts is wonderful news. You struggled to make any headway in the past, so seeing you succeed now is a relief. Your mother and I give you our full support. If you require any resources for your Cultivation, just ask. The family will do everything possible to provide what you need!”
Lin Xiong likely suspected there were other factors behind Lin Feng’s sudden growth, but he didn't care to pry. His only concern was his son's well-being. If practicing martial arts brought Lin Feng happiness, he would support it wholeheartedly—especially since Lin Feng might only have three years of life remaining.
As for the idea of breaking the genetic lock and becoming an Inhuman in just three years, Lin Xiong didn't dare entertain the thought. If the genetic lock were that easy to overcome, Inhuman experts wouldn't be so rare.
After offering a few more words of advice, his parents left him to rest in the medical room. It was equipped with the finest recovery technology, and Lin Feng often stayed there whenever his condition flared up.
Once his parents had departed, Lin Feng rose from the bed. He flexed his arms, feeling the raw power coursing through him. The medical checkup had confirmed his suspicions about his physical state. While standard tests couldn't identify his genetic alterations, the fusion with the Wild Bovine genes had clearly resulted in a massive spike in his physical attributes.
However, the Wild Bovine genes were not yet fully expressed. Knowing the medical room was stocked with high-grade nutrient solutions, Lin Feng decided to use them to fully develop these genes as quickly as possible.
He began administering the injections immediately. One, two, three...
After five consecutive injections of the nutrient solution, Lin Feng felt his body become incredibly "thirsty," greedily soaking up the nourishment. His once lean frame began to fill out, becoming noticeably more robust.
The physical change was subtle enough to be hidden by his clothes, but internally, Lin Feng could feel a profound transformation taking place.
In the past, such injections would have forced him into a deep sleep, as his frail body couldn't handle the intense nourishment and would shut down to protect itself.
But now, with a physique nearly four times stronger than a normal human, his body was resilient. Even after five high-grade doses, he only felt a slight sense of bloating rather than immediate exhaustion.
An hour later, Lin Feng opened his eyes. With a quick thought, he activated the genetic fusion device on his wrist. A holographic display appeared, showing his updated statistics.
Physique: 8.41Strength: 8.18Agility: 6.56
Skills: Basic Fist Technique (Proficient, can reach Adept through practice), Wild Bovine’s Might (Mastered, comprehended Wild Bovine’s True Intent)Genetic Fusion: Wild Bovine genes (100% fusion, complete)Genetic Capacity: 6%
The change in his physical stats was staggering. His physique and strength were now over eight times that of an average adult, while his agility was over six times higher.
The speed of this improvement was mind-blowing. In just a few days, Lin Feng’s body had undergone a qualitative leap. A physique like this was already on par with a high-level professional martial artist.
Lin Feng walked over to the strength-testing equipment in the room. While the data looked impressive, he wanted to see the practical application of his new power.
Taking a deep breath, he settled into a slight crouch. He then straightened up, channeling his full power into his right fist and striking the machine with everything he had.
Bang!
A heavy thud echoed through the room. Lin Feng quickly checked the digital readout.
“895 kilograms!”
Nearly 900 kilograms of force. Even Lin Feng was taken aback. He had expected something significant given his stats, as an average adult usually hits for about 100 kilograms. For him to produce nearly 900 kilograms was logically sound based on his eightfold increase in strength.
To be classified as a Grade Four professional martial artist, one needed to hit a benchmark of 500 kilograms. Lin Feng had already nearly doubled that requirement.
But he knew he hadn't reached his peak yet. A true martial artist uses techniques to amplify their power. That last strike had been a raw, unrefined punch.
He took another deep breath, visualizing the image of a rampaging Wild Bovine in his mind. In that moment, he felt as though he had become the beast itself.
“Wild Bovine’s Might!”
BOOM!
The impact was far louder this time, causing the entire machine to tremble. The display flashed a new number: “1,920 kg.”
“Hiss.”
Lin Feng inhaled sharply. 1,920 kilograms—his power had essentially doubled. The fact that Wild Bovine’s Might could provide such a massive boost was incredible. It explained why he had been able to knock out the formidable Du Qiang with a single blow at the club.
Usually, martial techniques didn't grant such an extreme increase to ordinary people. However, because Lin Feng had fused with the actual genes and mastered the Wild Bovine’s True Intent, his execution of the move was on a completely different level.
Lin Feng wasn't entirely sure where 1,920 kilograms placed him in the grand scheme of things. Professional rankings involved actual combat assessments beyond just raw data. In the world of martial arts, speed and skill often allowed the weak to overcome the strong.
Since he had never sparred with a professional, he could only estimate. He surmised that he was at least comparable to a Grade Seven martial artist, perhaps even stronger.
The fact that he had reached the level of a high-tier professional in such a short window felt like a dream, yet the reality was undeniable. This was the power of the genetic fusion device.
“The device still has room for more fusions. My capacity is only at 6%, but I must be selective about which genes I integrate next. It requires careful thought. Ideally, I should pick genes that complement specific martial techniques so I can master more True Intents.”
Lin Feng began strategizing for his future. Although he had plenty of capacity left, he couldn't afford to waste it on useless traits. Fusing with the genes of a common pet would be a pointless waste of his potential.
Furthermore, since certain fusions facilitated the understanding of True Intent, finding the perfect match was his top priority. He would take his time to choose. With the device, he could bypass the years of grueling physical conditioning that other martial artists endured, achieving in days what took them a decade.
Because of this unfair advantage, he had to be even more meticulous with his choices.
…
After dinner, Lin Qian grabbed Lin Feng and pulled him toward the garden, a mischievous look in her eyes. “Brother, are you busy tonight? There’s a fashion show in the city. You’re coming with me!”
Lin Feng looked at her skeptically. “Alright, tell me. Who else is going to be there?”
“Sister Qu Chen will be there too.”
Realizing she couldn't fool him, Lin Qian confessed immediately.
“Was this your plan, or did Qu Chen ask for this?”
“Brother, you know how Sister Qu Chen feels about you. This was my idea, but she agreed to it. Just come with me this once. I already promised her you’d show up!”
Lin Feng went silent. He was well aware of Qu Chen’s feelings. However, with his illness leaving him with a three-year death sentence, he didn't want to start a romance. He didn't want to leave behind a legacy of grief and pain when his time was up.
“Lin Qian, you know my situation. It’s impossible for anything to happen between Qu Chen and me…”
“Brother, why do you have to be so gloomy? Regardless of what happens, you should try to be happy. I’ll take that as a yes! I’m going to pick up Sister Qu Chen now. We’ll meet you at the Starlight Cafe in the north district, then we’ll head to the exhibition.”
Without waiting for a formal answer, Lin Qian hurried off.
Lin Feng sighed and shook his head, but he still went inside to change. Eventually, he got into the family car and began the drive toward the Starlight Cafe.
