“What did you call me?” Nameless Nie whipped his head around, his sharp eyes overflowing with a chilling menace.
“Um… Ling Miao…” The man shivered in terror from Nameless Nie’s stare. Never before had he encountered such a horrifying look. A savage beast in the zoo… couldn’t match even a tiny fraction of it.
“Nameless Nie, don’t cause trouble.” Ling Miao cast a frown at Nameless Nie.
“Oh? Am I interrupting you?”
Nameless Nie spun back and smashed the study door closed, shattering the wood into fragments.
Ling Miao stayed silent on the matter, seeming lost in deep reflection.
…
Returning to the living room, Nameless Nie slung his travel bag over his shoulder once more and made for the exit.
Yet, as he arrived at the door, he wheeled around, returned, hurled his bag onto the sofa, and dropped down onto it too.
“Little brat, what’s with you? Why all the racket?”
Auntie Ling questioned Nameless Nie while setting the dishes on the dining table moments later.
“Nothing at all, I just got hungry. You took ages to wrap up, Old Ling—trying to let me starve?” Nameless Nie shot back at Auntie Ling.
“Look at you. After all these years, you’re still so hot-headed… Go call your aunt and her boyfriend to dinner.” Auntie Ling untied her apron.
“Okay.” Nameless Nie got to his feet, strode to the study, and booted the door open.
After those words, Nameless Nie pivoted and walked away…
“Ling Miao… does your nephew… misunderstand me somehow? Why does everything feel wrong?” the man asked Ling Miao.
Ling Miao gave a smile and shook her head. “It’s got nothing to do with you.”
Rising to her feet, Ling Miao neatened the books on the desk before heading to the dining room side by side with the man.
The man reached for Ling Miao’s right hand but got deftly avoided by her.
Aren’t you destined to be mine in the end… The man brooded darkly.
By the dining table, Auntie Ling claimed the head position while Nameless Nie took the seat beside the man.
“Auntie Ling, thanks for the effort on this wonderful spread,” the man said to Auntie Ling with a courteous smile.
“No big deal. Dig in more,” Auntie Ling answered.
“Little brat, have some hare.” Auntie Ling scooped a piece of hare meat into Nameless Nie’s bowl.
“I won’t eat it. I’m friends with rabbits,” Nameless Nie responded coolly.
“…” Aunt Ling said, “Then try this. It’s boar.”
“No, boars are my brothers,” Nameless Nie declared.
“Is your nephew’s head okay?” the man murmured, bending toward Ling Miao.
Ling Miao: “…”
“Li Chun, how are your parents?” Auntie Ling asked the man.
“Thanks for asking, Auntie Ling. My parents are quite good. As you know, our family runs so many companies, lots needing my father’s direct handling… He mentioned he’ll come visit in person when he can,” Li Chun replied.
“Auntie Ling, it’s kinda hot. Can we crank up the AC?” Nameless Nie cut in abruptly.
Before Auntie Ling could respond, Li Chun stated, “The temperature feels just right to me.”
“Feeling hot?” Nameless Nie asked Ling Miao.
“A bit,” Ling Miao answered.
“Mm, break up then. You two don’t match,” Nameless Nie declared.
“What?!”
Auntie Ling and Li Chun both jumped in shock.
“How don’t we match?” Li Chun demanded.
“The temperature doesn’t match,” Nameless Nie retorted.
“Heh, you sure love jokes, nephew,” Li Chun remarked.
