Chen Yang's initial treatments for the plague only suppressed the symptoms. As he researched further, a secret agency arrived to investigate the village. Chen Yang discovered a local medicine, Baicao Bag, could cure the illness and arranged for the factory's entire stock to be transported to treat the patients.

"Chen Yang, the patient’s condition has seen some improvement, but how much longer until a full recovery?" As he observed the gradual recovery of the afflicted, the village chief’s anxieties began to subside.

He approached Chen Yang, seeking to ascertain the specific duration for complete healing.

To be entirely truthful, Chen Yang had no clear idea regarding the timeline for recovery.

After all, he had never encountered such a peculiar plague before, making it impossible for him to offer a definitive recovery period.

"Village chief, this ailment is quite unusual; I have neither heard of nor seen it previously, so I cannot state with certainty how long recovery will take. I can only estimate that it might take a little over a month at most, but if they continue to use the herbal pouches, they will undoubtedly get better." Chen Yang, faced with the unknown, could only provide a broad estimate instead of a concrete answer.

"Very well, I understand." The village chief nodded, then departed to resume his responsibilities.

A month felt like a considerable duration, yet in the context of such a plague, it was actually quite a favorable outcome.

The very fact that the plague was treatable was, in itself, a remarkable achievement.

"Chen Yang, isn’t over a month a rather long time?" The village chief had just left when Wu Kexin suddenly came forward, voicing her concern.

She had never witnessed Chen Yang taking more than a week to treat an individual; this was an unprecedented situation.

It underscored the immense difficulty posed by this plague.

"A month is not excessively long. This illness is exceedingly complex and inflicts substantial damage upon the human body. It must be treated with care; rushing the treatment with potent medications could lead to severe complications." Chen Yang offered a measured explanation.

While Wu Kexin possessed limited knowledge of medicine, her faith in Chen Yang was absolute. Consequently, after hearing his explanation, she refrained from further questioning.

By the time the two had concluded their respective duties, the afternoon had advanced to around four or five o’clock.

Wu Kexin departed first, as she had other obligations within the village to attend to.

Chen Yang, however, remained in Linghe Village.

With the patients’ conditions now stabilized, it was imperative to investigate the origin of this devastating plague.

"Halt, entry into this area is strictly prohibited."

Given the critical nature of the situation, the Linghe Village office had been transformed into the central command for the entire operation, enforced by security measures far more stringent than those at the village entrance.

Even the village chief’s pass was insufficient to grant entry.

"Entry is denied even with a pass? Then please go inside and inform Deputy Director Ma that Chen Yang is here." Chen Yang stated, feeling somewhat resigned.

These individuals were clearly members of the secret bureau. Their presence here strongly suggested that Ma Jiantao and Lisa were inside.

Therefore, if they were to relay his arrival, he should be granted access.

"Hmm? You know our Director Ma?" The guard’s demeanor visibly softened upon hearing Chen Yang’s words.

"Could there be any other reason?"

"Very well, please wait here for a moment. I will go and inquire within."

Judging by Chen Yang’s confident tone, he seemed to hold some influence, leading the guard to hesitate in enforcing the restriction further. The guard promptly turned and proceeded to report at the village office.

After a brief interval of one to two minutes, Ma Jiantao emerged personally from the village office.

"Oh, Chen Yang, it truly is you!"

Upon seeing Chen Yang, Ma Jiantao’s face lit up with an enthusiastic smile.

"Director Ma, it has been some time. You appear more energetic than ever." Chen Yang returned the smile.

"Since when did you start employing such flattery?" Ma Jiantao chuckled heartily and promptly invited Chen Yang inside.

Chen Yang readily accepted and followed Ma Jiantao into the village office.

Following a few brief pleasantries, they transitioned directly to the core matter, commencing discussions regarding the plague.

The involvement of the secret bureau indicated that the situation was undeniably grave.

However, what Chen Yang had not anticipated was that the reality of the situation was even more dire than his initial assumptions.

"This plague is not natural; it is man-made. Based on our current investigations, it is highly probable that the Five Poisons Cult is responsible." Ma Jiantao stated, his expression grave.

"The Five Poisons Cult?"

Chen Yang expressed his astonishment; this was yet another organization completely unknown to him.

"Indeed, the Five Poisons Cult. This organization is exceptionally sinister, perpetually elusive without any discernible pattern of activity. Yet, invariably, their actions involve heinous tactics, such as poisoning innocent civilians. Their methods are barbarically cruel." Ma Jiantao provided Chen Yang with a concise overview of the Five Poisons Cult.

"What is their motive for such actions? Poisoning civilians, what benefit could they possibly gain?" Chen Yang’s confusion deepened.

Typically, cultivators rarely instigated conflicts with ordinary individuals, as such people posed no significant challenge to them.

"We are uncertain of their exact motivations. All we know is that this cult is shrouded in mystery and exceedingly difficult to comprehend." Ma Jiantao replied.

Hearing this, Chen Yang found himself momentarily speechless.

"What are your plans moving forward?"

After a brief pause, Chen Yang inquired. "The next course of action is naturally to devise methods for apprehending members of the Five Poisons Cult. Given their atrocious deeds, the secret bureau cannot possibly ignore them," Ma Jiantao declared with conviction. "However, aren't you unfamiliar with the Five Poisons Cult? Where will you begin?" Chen Yang pressed further. Ma Jiantao offered a smile. "While our knowledge of the Five Poisons Cult is limited, we do possess some archived data regarding their operational patterns." "Based on their customary behavior, they will undoubtedly persist and show no mercy to the surrounding villages." "So, your intention is to set up an ambush?" Chen Yang grasped Ma Jiantao's meaning. "Indeed. I have already instructed Lisa and Xiao Hu to lead squads in establishing positions within the neighboring villages. If all proceeds as planned, we should achieve some success," Ma Jiantao expressed with considerable confidence. It was evident why Ma Jiantao maintained his composure even when confronted with such a challenging predicament; a flawless strategy had already been formulated by him.
