~5 minute read · 1,291 words

"Yes, it’s best to wait until he wakes up and ask him yourself. Staying in this infirmary doesn’t delay anything," Wang Hong nodded in agreement with Chen Yang’s suggestion.

Because the man was in a coma, it was unclear when he would wake up.

After recounting the situation to Chen Yang and chatting briefly, Aunt Wang and Uncle Niu left as they had their own matters to attend to.

"Chen Yang, I don’t know why, but that man’s appearance seems somewhat similar to yours. Maybe he really is a relative of yours,"

Li Han suddenly spoke up after everyone else had left.

She had been observing the unconscious man carefully and noticed his demeanor bore an uncanny resemblance to Chen Yang’s.

Chen Yang looked over upon hearing this and realized it was true.

But that didn’t mean anything; although the chances of such a resemblance were slim, who was to say this wasn’t just a coincidence?

"I have no idea. Anyway, I’ve never heard my parents or grandfather mention that I have relatives. The villagers know this too. I’ll ask him myself when he wakes up, and then it’ll become clear," Chen Yang said calmly.

"Alright,"

Li Han heard this and didn’t say anything further, nodding and waiting with Chen Yang in the infirmary.

About an hour later, a coughing sound was heard.

The man on the bed woke up.

His hair was disheveled, his clothes worn, and he was skin and bones.

Yet his eyes shone brightly!

Upon waking, he looked around as if wary of something.

Once he realized he was in a hospital receiving an IV, he relaxed his guard.

"You’re awake."

Chen Yang, hearing the noise, approached the bedside with Li Han.

The man on the bed saw Chen Yang and his expression visibly shifted!

"You... are you Yang Zi?" the man asked with wide eyes, his tone a mix of inquiry and certainty.

Chen Yang paused upon hearing this.

This person identified him at a glance? Could he really be a relative?

He had never heard of, let alone seen, this person before.

"I’m Chen Yang, who are you?" Chen Yang asked with growing curiosity.

"You really are Yang Zi! This is wonderful, I’ve finally found you!" the man confirmed excitedly, his body trembling slightly.

The genuine emotion was undeniable.

Every detail was carefully observed by Chen Yang, nothing seemed off.

"Who exactly are you? As far as I know, my family has no relatives. You couldn’t possibly be a distant relative from my grandfather’s generation?" Chen Yang didn’t respond extensively, instead pressing on the man’s identity.

Despite the man’s genuine demeanor, Chen Yang wouldn’t drop his guard until the true identity was clear.

Who knew if this person was a master of disguise sent by someone?

Having been involved in the cultivation world, experiencing things like spirit beasts transforming, he knew nothing was impossible.

"Haha, it’s been over twenty years, everything’s changed. When I left the village, you weren’t even born, so it’s normal not to recognize me." In response to Chen Yang’s doubts, the man smiled, murmuring as if he understood something.

"I’m not a distant relative from your grandfather’s generation; I’m your father’s brother, your Second Uncle!"

The man spoke resolutely, locking eyes with Chen Yang.

Second Uncle?

Chen Yang was utterly shocked.

The man’s behavior seemed truthful, leading Chen Yang to initially suspect he might be a distant relative of some sort.

But claiming to be his Second Uncle was absolutely impossible!

Second Uncle, his father’s own brother, a close family relationship.

How was it possible he’d never heard of him? His parents and grandfather never mentioned him?

This couldn’t be!

"This can’t be! If you were my Second Uncle, why have I never heard of you? Lying and forging family ties, yet you didn’t even do your homework in advance?" Chen Yang’s eyes narrowed, scrutinizing the man.

Within him, his spiritual energy began to slowly gather, ready to act at any moment.

He couldn’t possibly believe this man to be his Second Uncle!

Facing the scepticism, the man on the bed simply smiled, not rushing, and calmly said, "This matter is a long story, and I don’t know how to explain why you haven’t heard of me."

"But you must believe, I am indeed your Second Uncle! This is an undeniable fact."

Chen Yang scrutinized him closely, unable to find any flaws. Everything appeared so natural, as if it were true.

But it seemed absurd, a Second Uncle appearing out of nowhere?

"Heh, your words are quite peculiar. Saying you don’t know how to explain, trying to brush it off, isn’t that too forced?" Chen Yang sneered, continuing his skepticism.

The man, seemingly aware that Chen Yang wouldn’t believe him, began speaking about Chen Yang’s family.

His grandfather’s name, his parents’ names, even their birthdays were known by this man.

"What you revealed could be found with some investigation, not enough to prove anything, right?" Chen Yang remained unmoved, knowing such information could be researched.

Seeing Chen Yang still doubting, the man’s expression shifted slightly, and after a moment’s contemplation, he spoke again, "Since you don’t believe my words, I can only rely on someone else to prove it."

"The old brother from the Niu Family at the village entrance, he’s still alive, right?"

The man asked Chen Yang.

The old brother from the Niu Family?

Chen Yang pondered briefly, "Are you talking about Uncle Niu at the village entrance?"

"It should be him. He has a son named Niu Ming, slightly older than you. When I left, he had just been born." The man nodded, "Could you please bring Brother Niu here, he should remember me."

The man’s sincerity in speaking made it seem unlikely he was lying.

Chen Yang’s gaze locked onto him, carefully observing his every movement.

"If he comes, he can help verify my identity, I am indeed your Second Uncle." The man spoke again seeing Chen Yang unmoved.

"Chen Yang, wasn’t Uncle Niu just here? I think what he’s saying might be untrue..." Li Han, who had been watching all along, was also startled when this man claimed to be Chen Yang’s Second Uncle.

It was the first time she’d heard of it.

"Whether it’s true or not, I’ll call Uncle Niu to have a look," Chen Yang, after some thought, decided to be cautious.

Despite his difficulty in believing this man could be his Second Uncle, his words were so certain, so natural.

It didn’t seem like he was lying.

"Yes... you’re right, I’ll help you find Uncle Niu, you stay here," Li Han nodded, volunteering to find Uncle Niu for Chen Yang.

"Yang Zi... it’s been twenty years, you’ve grown so much. You truly are a descendant of our Chen Family, leading the village to prosperity. Your grandfather would be proud if he knew." After Li Han left, the man smiled and spoke from the bed.

And Chen Yang didn’t deliberately ignore him; instead, they engaged in conversation.

Whenever the village was mentioned, this man had much to say.

Everything he said matched up perfectly with the village’s past.

Knowledge of these details indicated a genuine presence in the village, not merely something investigated or observed.

Could he really be his Second Uncle?

For the first time, Chen Yang felt shaken internally, because everything the man said was too correct.
