Su Yuxin stayed by Tao Mingqing's side until his fever broke and he awoke. She left gifts of scholarly items for him. Though Tao Mingqing was touched by her concern and the kiss she gave him to save him, he felt desolate, believing he was unworthy of her and that she did not want him to be responsible for their intimacy. Feng Tong tried to comfort him and suggested he improve his health, but Tao Mingqing felt limited by his lack of access to rare medicinal ingredients like his brother.

Not wanting his young master to feel so bitter, Feng Tong quickly chimed in, "Master, you’re doing fine. Look, those protectors don’t eat Millennium Ginseng, yet they’re all healthy. You’re weak because you sit reading books all the time. Just exercise more, and you’ll get better. No need for Millennium Ginseng at all."

"Hmm." Tao Mingqing responded softly and said no more. Earlier, Su Yuxin had mentioned that she could handle him with one hand, which had sparked his wish to train his body, but he hadn’t acted on it yet. Now, he’s suddenly gotten sick, indicating he really should exercise a lot to improve his health.

He certainly doesn’t want to become a sickly person before he makes a name for himself.

Seeing that Tao Mingqing didn’t want to talk anymore, Feng Tong also kept silent.

...

Su Yuxin returned to the Royal Palace late at night, but Su Yi Jing had yet to sleep.

As soon as Su Yuxin entered her courtyard, she saw the light was on in her living room, where her father sat. She rushed in, hugged his right arm, and laughed, "Dad, why aren’t you sleeping yet? Didn’t I send someone to tell you that I’m staying late because I was worried about the Tao family’s Fifth Young Master?"

Su Yi Jing first looked at his precious daughter without any expression, then touched her head and sighed, "You’re too reckless. Even when fooling people, you need to consider the target. You can’t scare someone into falling into a pool like that. How can you face your uncle if something happened to Tao Mingqing, who is your little uncle’s brother?"

"How was I supposed to know he’d fall into the pool? I didn’t expect him to get sick from the fall. But Dad, he’s fine now. I only came back after his fever subsided, so I can still face my uncle with ease. Don’t worry." Su Yuxin said with a mischievous grin.

Su Yi Jing nodded and no longer asked about the matter but instead said, "In the future, take more guards with you when you go out to prevent your mother from worrying and losing sleep."

Su Yuxin chuckled, "Isn’t it you who’s losing sleep from worrying, Dad? I only see you here alone. My mother’s room went dark early; she must be asleep."

Su Yi Jing didn’t deny it and instead said, "You’re a young lady. Don’t come back so late. If you can’t make it back, stay at your aunt’s place and send someone to inform us."

"I want to have breakfast with you tomorrow morning, Dad. No matter how late, I have to come back." Su Yuxin said, her words as sweet as honey.

Su Yi Jing was pleased to hear it and, not caring whether Su Yuxin’s words were true or not, simply said, "Go to sleep now."

"Then you should sleep soon too, Dad."

"Hmm."

...

The next day, after breakfast with her parents and visiting her grandparents, Su Yuxin finally left the palace to go to the Tao family.

By the time Su Yuxin arrived at the Tao family, it was already three-quarters past the hour.

With the fever gone and having had a nap, Tao Mingqing was very clear-headed and wasn’t lying on his bed but standing by the window, pondering when Su Yuxin would visit him today.

Feng Tong had mentioned that she would come today.

Just as Tao Mingqing was lost in his thoughts, Su Yuxin entered his courtyard and saw Tao Mingqing standing under the study window, deep in thought. She dared not scare him again, fearing that she might seriously frighten him.

So, as she approached the study with Tao Mingqing inside, she smiled and said, "Are you feeling better? Why aren’t you resting in bed? You’re back in your study again; do you really like reading that much?"
