An Yiqing, still recovering, pretends to be upset with his sister Su Xing for prioritizing her husband. Gong Le smooths things over, encouraging Su Xing to apologize. Su Xing readily does so, expressing her remorse and assuring An Yiqing he is important to her. An Yiqing eventually forgives her, though he teases her about her husband.

Gong Le sat next to An Yiqing and playfully nudged him, "Why are you jealous of her husband? Aren’t you afraid I’ll be jealous of Xin’er? You care so much about Xin’er, your sister."

An Yiqing immediately said, "That’s different. You’re my wife; she’s my sister. There is no comparison."

Gong Le laughed, "Exactly. Míngyè is her husband; you’re her brother. Both have a place in her heart and don’t conflict, so naturally, there’s no comparison."

An Yiqing didn’t say anything to Gong Le but turned and smiled at Su Xing, "Your sister-in-law’s tongue has gotten much sharper over the years. In the past, she would listen to me; whatever I said was the truth. Now she’s older, and her temper has only grown."

Su Xing laughed, "Even if her temper has grown, isn’t she still your beloved wife?"

An Yiqing said, "That’s true."

Gong Le pretended to pout, "If you dare say she isn’t, see how I’ll deal with you."

An Yiqing laughed, "I wouldn’t dare."

Gong Le laughed.

Su Xing also laughed and then took the brocade box from Hong Ye’s hands. She opened it, revealing two plates of pastries she’d made, and placed them on the small table on the couch.

"I got up before dawn today to make these as an apology to my third brother. Please, third brother, see how sincere I am and forgive me!" Saying this, Su Xing made a bow to An Yiqing.

An Yiqing picked up a small piece of pastry and put it into his mouth; it melted instantly. He was already in a good mood, and now he felt even better: "Seeing how sincere you are, I forgive you."

"Stop pretending!" Gong Le laughed and nudged his pretentious air before pulling Su Xing to sit beside her. Once Su Xing was next to her, she smiled at Su Xing and said, "Your third brother already forgave you when he talked to you just now. He loves to put on airs. When he was younger, he wasn’t like this. The older he gets, the more he can’t put on a straight face. You have no idea how thick-skinned he was when he was young."

An Yiqing laughed while eating the pastry, "You make it sound like we’re very old already. I’m only forty, and you’re even younger."

Gong Le laughed, "And you said earlier that I’m getting old?"

An Yiqing laughed, "I was just saying. I just wanted to point out how much you’ve changed over the years, always managing me."

Gong Le squinted, "If I didn’t manage you, would I just let you go to the brothel and play?"

An Yiqing immediately put on a placating smile, "That’s a story from hundreds of years ago. Why bring it up? Didn’t we agree to forget it? Just happily forget it, okay? Besides, I didn’t do anything wrong there, just drank a little and listened to some music."

Gong Le finally stopped giving him the side-eye.

Su Xing laughed, "Third brother used to say he was envious of how loving my husband and I were. Now, I’m here alone, and seeing how loving you and third sister-in-law are, I’m really envious."

An Yiqing finally noticed, "Why did you come alone? Where is Míngyè?"

Su Xing said, "I couldn’t leave the house because of a setup for Mrs. Cao, so I came alone."

An Yiqing said, "When you go back, tell him I didn’t mean it last time. I was just too worried about you, afraid you’d get into trouble. And when I saw he didn’t stop you, I ended up saying that."

Su Xing hesitated for a moment, then said, "Third brother, my husband did try to stop me, but I wouldn’t let him near when I was crying, so he couldn’t persuade me. But he had set his mind that if anything happened to me, he wouldn’t live either."
