Peaceful Farm Life Chapter 2492 - 2493: Return to Tianyun (59)

"Why are you still taking the exam?!" Tao Chengyin was still not satisfied with Su Xing taking the martial exam. First, because he thought Su Xing wouldn’t pass, and second, because he felt she should wholeheartedly take care of his sickly eldest son.
Su Xing grinned cheekily and said, "I’ll give it a try, maybe I’ll pass. Haven’t you always looked down on me? If I actually manage to become a Martial Talent, even just a lowly one, you should be a bit more satisfied with me as your daughter-in-law."
Tao Chengyin felt very pleased listening to this; his daughter-in-law was trying to earn his approval. But he said, "As long as you wholeheartedly treat Ye’er well, and Ye’er is doing fine, there’s no need for you to take any exam. I will naturally think highly of you."
"Dad..." Taoming Ye was quite helpless, "Hasn’t Xin’er already been good enough to me?"
Tao Chengyin immediately reprimanded, "Ever since you married this wife, you’ve become more disobedient! You used to listen to everything I said, but now, you just defend your wife! What, as your father-in-law, I can’t even say a word about her?!"
Taoming Ye felt even more helpless and also found it funny.
Su Xing found it funny as well.
Tao Chengyin scolded a few more times before stopping and reminded, "The 30th is the day your second brother is marrying Banyan into the family. You are not in good health, so you don’t need to help out that day, just rest well in your own courtyard."
Taoming Ye nodded and gently asked, "What about Xin’er?"
Tao Chengyin replied, "Originally, as the eldest sister-in-law, she should help out on that day. However, since the Marquis family knows she was supposed to marry your second brother, she should just stay in the courtyard with you, to avoid any awkwardness when the Marquis Mansion’s people come to deliver the bride."
Su Xing laughed, "Just as well, I didn’t want to help out anyway."
Seeing that Su Xing was being straightforward without any sarcastic remarks, Tao Chengyin was relieved, though a bit puzzled. His eldest daughter-in-law’s attitude towards him seemed to be changing; it seemed like she had genuinely accepted him as her father-in-law.
Thinking this was good after all, since harmony in the family brings prosperity, Tao Chengyin smiled and said, "That’s all, you can go back now."
"Dad, we’ll head back then." Taoming Ye, aided by Su Xing, got up and the two of them headed outside.
...
The results for the children’s exam would be out in mid-July, but Taoming Hai and Wan Banyan were getting married on June 30th.
On the day of Taoming Hai’s wedding, the weather was quite hot. Su Xing had no interest in the bustle of the front yard and personally went to the small kitchen in her courtyard to cook, making quite a bit of cold noodles.
The cold noodles were seasoned with vinegar and chilled, very appetizing and refreshing, and the usually small-eating Taoming Ye unexpectedly finished a whole bowl, which made Su Xing very happy to see.
There was still quite a bit of cold noodles left, so Su Xing gave them to the servants in her courtyard, who all loved it and finished it clean.
The next day, Wan Banyan, the new daughter-in-law, offered tea to Tao Chengyin and Mrs. Cao, and Taoming Ye and Su Xing, as the eldest son and daughter-in-law, had to attend.
Wan Banyan was quite good-looking, especially her frame, particularly petite. Standing next to the burly Taoming Hai, she looked even smaller, almost like a child standing next to an adult.
Upon seeing Su Xing, Wan Banyan gave her a disdainful glance.
Su Xing noticed it but couldn’t be bothered to deal with Wan Banyan. She realized what it meant to be birds of a feather; Taoming Hai was someone who loved looking down on others, and so was Wan Banyan.
Besides Tao Chengyin, Mrs. Cao, and Tao Chengyin’s concubines, no one else in the hall was seated.
