Peaceful Farm Life Chapter 2375 - 2376: A Tacit Understanding

After she cried until she was exhausted, she finally stopped sobbing loudly and began to cry softly in Ning Zihan’s arms.
The longer An Baobei cried, the longer Ning Zihan felt distressed. Now that An Baobei stopped crying and was just sobbing, Ning Zihan felt even more heartbroken. He wondered just how deeply he had hurt her back then to make her like this.
Involuntarily, he tightened his grip around her. His words escaped his lips without thinking, apologizing into her ear: "I’m sorry."
An Baobei didn’t respond, only kept sobbing, and as she continued to sob, perhaps it was because Ning Zihan’s embrace felt too safe, or maybe she was just too tired from crying, she fell asleep in Ning Zihan’s arms.
Ning Zihan, seeing her sleeping, didn’t dare move an inch for fear of waking her. It wasn’t until the sun was nearly set, and the seaside air became too chilly, causing the sleeping An Baobei to shiver involuntarily in his arms, that he gingerly got up and carried the still-sleeping An Baobei back to the nearby villa.
On the way back to the villa, An Baobei awoke. She blearily glanced at Ning Zihan, then carelessly closed her eyes again and continued to sleep.
When An Baobei awoke again, it was after eight in the evening. The room’s wall lamp was on, casting a faint, cozy glow that wasn’t harsh on the eyes.
By this dim light, An Baobei could see Ning Zihan sitting on the floor, sleeping with his head resting on the edge of the bed.
An Baobei didn’t need to think to know that Ning Zihan was keeping watch over her, and he must have fallen asleep while doing so.
Thinking about the events of the day, An Baobei’s mood wasn’t heavy anymore; she even felt an unprecedented sense of relief.
Feeling a bit hungry, An Baobei planned to go to the kitchen to make something to eat. But just as she cautiously climbed to the edge of the bed, Ning Zihan was stirred awake by her movement.
Ning Zihan, seeing she was awake, stood up while asking her, "Hungry? There’s still warm food in the kitchen, go eat."
"You cooked?"
"Yeah."
An Baobei was quite surprised: "I didn’t expect you knew how to cook."
"Just a few simple dishes, can’t promise they’ll taste good. Come on." Saying this, he went to help her off the bed.
She didn’t resist, letting him help her into slippers, and together they went downstairs to eat.
The two seemed to reach a tacit understanding, neither mentioning the day’s events. Yet, the feeling between them was noticeably different than before.
There were three dishes and a soup: stir-fried peppers with meat, broccoli, lotus root, and tomato egg soup.
Ning Zihan brought the heated dishes and soup to the table, then served two bowls of rice, giving one to An Baobei before sitting down across from her.
The square table, neither too big nor too small, held the three dishes and soup, exuding a homely feel. Looking at it, An Baobei felt warmth welling up inside.
Ning Zihan’s cooking was quite decent; all three dishes and the soup carried authentic flavors. If An Baobei had cooked, she was sure she wouldn’t have managed to make them this well.
Feeling hungry, An Baobei, after finishing one bowl of rice, served herself another half bowl and continued eating.
As she ate, she said, "I can’t believe you can cook. I can’t even do that. Last time, Uncle Lu asked me to cook at his place to see if we were suitable, but he ended up doing the cooking while I just clumsily helped."
Ning Zihan was fine initially, but hearing An Baobei mention Lu Yimi, especially about her past trial dating with him, his face darkened: "Don’t mention him in front of me."
The jealousy was so palpable that An Baobei certainly knew Ning Zihan was getting jealous, but she said nothing. Instead, with a smile, she put some broccoli on Ning Zihan’s plate for him to eat.
