Ethan meets with Empress Ophelia, who casually inquires about his new ducal responsibilities and recent wedding. Her conversation subtly shifts to his personal life, eventually leading to a proposal: she offers several strong women to join his household. Ophelia claims this is to quell political unease by making it appear she is monitoring Ethan, but Ethan suspects a hidden motive. After considering the implications, Ethan accepts her offer and is told to choose from the women presented.

Ethan eyed them carefully.

Though they were strong, all of them were around Divine Rank except one at Saint Realm, but Ethan felt she was too rigid. Her posture was straight, and her expression remained cold even while standing among the others.

For a moment, Ethan wanted to ask if there was any Transcendent Knight, but he held back. He might really be beaten if he said this.

At the end, Ethan chose two.

One of them was Valeria, who was a knight at the peak of Divine Knight and just a few steps away from Saint Realm. She stood with a calm expression and carried herself like someone who had spent most of her life on the battlefield.

The other was a graceful and lovely maid who was also quite plump, whose name was Maria. Unlike Valeria, she had a softer appearance, and there was a gentle expression on her face as she stood quietly beside the other women.

"Why are you standing? Greet your husband."

Maria and Valeria gave a small bow, thanking Ethan for choosing them.

"Are you sure you don't want to choose more?" Ophelia raised her brows.

Ethan glanced at the other women before shaking his head slightly.

"I have something to talk about privately!"

Ophelia frowned at his request and was about to say something when the guards around them glared at Ethan dangerously.

They had already witnessed Ethan's strength.

Leaving him alone with the Empress might be dangerous. Even though they trusted Ophelia, they could not ignore the possibility of something happening when no one else was around.

Several guards tightened their grip on their weapons, and their eyes became sharp as they watched Ethan.

Ophelia noticed their reaction and immediately waved her hand.

"Stop!"

The guards hesitated before lowering their weapons and stepping back. They still looked at Ethan with caution, but they followed the Empress's order.

"There is no reason for Lord Ethan to harm me. Someone who even refused to be an Emperor won't harbour any shady thoughts."

Ophelia spoke calmly, and her eyes remained fixed on Ethan. She clearly trusted her own judgment, even if the guards were still worried.

Ethan looked at the guards for a moment before turning his attention back to Ophelia. His expression became serious as he leaned slightly forward.

"Your Majesty, it's really something important and it won't be good if anyone hear it."

The atmosphere inside the chamber slowly became quiet.

Even the women who had been standing nearby seemed to understand that whatever Ethan wanted to discuss was not something he wanted others to hear.

After everyone disappeared, Ethan clicked his tongue, making Ophelia's eyes widen in terror.

She saw a strong barrier appearing outside the chamber, and her body tensed up. Even though she kept herself calm, she immediately prepared for anything dangerous that might happen. Her hand tightened slightly against the armrest as she watched Ethan carefully.

Ethan saw Ophelia's reaction, but he ignored it and asked.

"Your Highness, I am asking about Lady Heliana."

Hearing this, Ophelia cast a subtle sorrowful look. Her expression changed as the name brought back memories that she had clearly tried to keep buried.

"Heliana was my most trusted aide. She had served me for many years and was someone I trusted more than most people around me. She was also someone who had a chance of reaching the Transcendent Realm."

Her voice became slightly heavy as she continued.

"She was talented, loyal and had always stood beside me. I never thought that I would have to watch her sacrifice herself."

Ethan remained silent and let her speak, allowing her to pour out her grievance. He could see the sorrow in her eyes, but he did not interrupt her. Ophelia continued for some time before finally stopping.

Ethan waited for a moment before speaking.

"Your Majesty!"

Ophelia looked at him.

"I know she was a clone."

Ophelia's eyes became alert, and she stood up straight as she looked at Ethan coldly.

"And I know that she was your clone."

The words struck like thunder in her ears.

For a moment, Ophelia was unable to maintain her composure. Her eyes widened, and her breathing stopped for a brief moment. She quickly sat up straight and stared at Ethan.

It took a moment before she was able to regain her composure.

Ethan couldn't help but marvel at her reaction.

'Truly worthy of being an Empress!'

Even after hearing such shocking words, she managed to regain her calm in such a short time.

Ophelia pondered for a moment before speaking.

"She isn't."

"Your Majesty, I am not guessing here to see your reaction and deceive you. I know she is your clone because all her magic was similar to yours."Ethan added.

"That's because I taught her!"

"Hehhe!"

Ethan chuckled, making Ophelia frown.

"Your Majesty, I am a magician too. The mana signature is entirely the same. There is no need to deceive me."

Ophelia remained silent for a few moments before finally sighing.

"Yes, she was my clone. Now what do you want by relying this information?"

Her expression became guarded.

At first, she thought Ethan was going to blackmail her. But on second thought, what was there to blackmail her with such information? The fact that Heliana was her clone was something only a handful of people could possibly know, but it wasn't something that could easily be used against her.

"What do you want?"

Ethan lowered his brows and remained silent for a moment. He thought about what he wanted to say before finally speaking.

"She gave her life for me and at the end when she was dying, she kissed me."

Ophelia's face became unnatural.

Her eyes shifted slightly, and for the first time since Ethan entered the chamber, she seemed genuinely uncomfortable with the direction of the conversation.

"Though she is my clone, our consciousness being separated had entirely given a new individual. She was master of her thoughts. Since she fancied you, she sacrificed her life for you and at approaching death she summoned her courage and kissed you."

Ophelia quickly raised a hand as if she wanted to stop Ethan from misunderstanding the situation.

"It had nothing to do with me." She hurriedly tried to explain.

Ethan looked at her quietly.

Ophelia's expression became slightly awkward as she realized how quickly she had tried to explain herself. She cleared her throat and looked away for a moment before returning her gaze to Ethan.

"She was her own person. Whatever feelings she had for you were hers alone."

Her voice was calmer this time, but there was still a faint trace of unease in her eyes.
