Shatad slowly let out a tired sigh.
"I wasn't involved from the beginning."
He picked up a small stone and casually threw it into the fire.
"Marco had already been working with the other Empires before the war even started. He had business dealings with them, and they had already promised him greater benefits from the very beginning."
He lowered his head slightly.
"I was dragged into it later. I was never as committed as he was because all of this would only benefit me if Arcadia lost the war. If Arcadia won, I would be the one in serious trouble."
He slowly looked toward Ethan.
"So I stayed in the middle."
He paused for a moment.
"Until..."
His eyes became much colder.
"It was only because of you that I got dragged into this mess."
Ethan shrugged without showing much concern.
"Even if I had never appeared, your days wouldn't have remained peaceful."
He folded his arms while calmly explaining.
"The Crown Prince probably already knew about your dealings. He had been keeping an eye on you for a long time."
A faint smile appeared on Ethan's face.
"I personally took care of a few hidden guards who were secretly watching you."
Shatad's eyelids twitched.
A bitter smile slowly appeared on his face.
He finally let out a helpless sigh.
"Now tell me."
"What exactly do you want me to do?"
"Contact them?"
Ethan slowly shook his head.
"I don't think simply contacting them will solve anything."
He looked toward the distant mountains while thinking carefully.
"From what you told me, the people who receive the messages don't have enough authority."
He slowly turned back toward Shatad.
"We need to speak directly with someone higher up."
"So..."
He paused while dusting off his clothes.
"So?"
Shatad frowned.
For some reason, a very bad feeling suddenly rose inside his heart.
Ethan calmly smiled.
"So we need to go there personally."
"What?!"
Shatad almost jumped to his feet.
He stared at Ethan with complete disbelief while pointing at him with trembling fingers.
"What the hell are you saying?"
"Did you forget the situation?"
"The moment you step inside the Allied camp, they'll tear you apart before you even get the chance to speak."
Ethan simply shrugged.
"That's not a problem."
His calm answer only made Shatad feel even more uneasy.
Ethan looked directly at him.
"I only need to hold on long enough for you to make them understand."
As he finished speaking, he casually waved one hand.
A ripple suddenly spread through the empty space beside them.
The next moment...
Maverick quietly stepped out.
Without needing any explanation, he immediately understood Ethan's intention.
He stretched out both hands.
A portal slowly formed before them while space itself twisted into a swirling passage.
Ethan gave him a brief nod before turning back toward Shatad.
Without another word, he grabbed Shatad by the arm.
"Wait..."
"Stop..."
"Wait a minute!"
Shatad screamed in complete horror while desperately trying to pull himself free.
"What are you doing?!"
"Have you gone crazy?!"
But Ethan didn't give him the slightest chance to resist.
Still holding tightly onto him, he dragged the terrified Marquise straight toward the portal while Shatad's frightened shouts echoed throughout the quiet mountain valley.
The swirling portal suddenly opened in the middle of the Allied Army camp.
A violent wave of spatial energy spread outward while the soldiers nearby instinctively turned toward the disturbance.
"What was that?"
"Portal!"
"Enemy!"
The peaceful camp instantly fell into chaos as dozens of soldiers rushed toward the center while officers shouted orders from every direction. The sound of heavy boots echoed across the ground as more and more troops surrounded the newly formed portal. Archers immediately raised their bows while mages gathered mana in their hands, and everyone fixed their eyes on the swirling light.
SWISH!
Two figures stepped out.
The moment everyone saw the white-haired young man standing at the front, countless expressions changed.
"It... It's him!"
"Marquise Ethan!"
"He actually came here!"
The soldiers instinctively tightened their grip on their weapons while several officers immediately stepped in front of the crowd. The atmosphere instantly became tense.
Beside Ethan, Marquise Shatad looked around at the countless soldiers surrounding them. His face turned pale while cold sweat covered his forehead.
"So many..."
He swallowed hard as his heartbeat quickened.
Ethan, however, remained completely calm. He slowly looked around at the crowd before raising one empty hand to show that he had no intention of making the first move.
However, before he could even speak, several impatient soldiers charged forward.
"Attack!"
Sword energy shot through the air while several spells flew straight toward Ethan from different directions.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
The attacks arrived one after another.
Ethan calmly raised his hand.
Several translucent shields instantly appeared around him. The barriers glowed brightly as they completely blocked every incoming attack.
BANG!
BANG!
BANG!
The sword energy shattered against the shields while the magic spells exploded into countless sparks before disappearing.
Not a single attack reached him.
The surrounding soldiers immediately stopped in shock while many of them stared at Ethan with widened eyes.
Ethan slowly lowered his hand.
"I came here to speak."
His calm voice carried across the camp, but it did little to ease the tension.
One of the officers stepped forward and pointed his sword toward Ethan while shouting, "Drop your weapon and do not move!"
At the same time, another officer raised his hand and roared, "Surround them! Don't let either of them escape!"
Within moments, hundreds of soldiers formed a complete circle around the two men. Archers climbed onto nearby watchtowers while mages continued preparing spells behind the front line. The atmosphere became so tense that even the smallest movement seemed enough to start a battle.
Marquise Shatad's breathing became heavier.
He leaned slightly toward Ethan and whispered, "I told you this would happen. They're not going to listen."
Ethan kept his eyes on the approaching officers.
"They will."
"They just need a reason."
Several powerful auras suddenly rose from different parts of the camp.
The ordinary soldiers immediately stepped aside and created a path through the crowd while the higher-ranking commanders hurried toward the scene with serious expressions.
Every eye remained fixed on Ethan.
