The soldiers quietly continued patrolling around the outer perimeter of the Arcadian camp while keeping a close watch on the surrounding land.
The last few days had made everyone far more cautious because the battlefield had become increasingly unpredictable and no one dared lower their guard anymore.
Every soldier carried a weapon in hand while their eyes constantly swept across the plains, the hills, and the distant tree line.
Even the knights riding along the defensive routes remained unusually quiet because they all understood that the greatest danger often arrived when everything appeared peaceful. The night breeze drifted across the land and carried the smell of dust, blood, and burnt earth left behind by the previous battles while the silence itself slowly became unsettling.
Suddenly, a series of heavy sounds echoed through the ground.
Thump!
Thump!
Thump!
The vibrations spread beneath their feet and grew stronger with every passing second until even the horses began shifting uneasily. One veteran soldier immediately raised his hand to stop the patrol while another slowly knelt and pressed his palm against the earth. The instant he felt the violent trembling below, the color drained from his face. He quickly stood up and looked toward the distant horizon with widened eyes.
"Something is coming!"
His shout immediately put everyone on alert. Several guards climbed onto the nearby watchtowers while archers grabbed their bows and searched the distance. At first, all they could see was a thick wall of dust rising into the sky, but as the cloud drew closer, countless dark figures gradually emerged from within it. The earth continued shaking beneath their feet until the horrifying truth became clear.
A monster tide.
One soldier's voice cracked as he shouted with all his strength.
"Monster tide!"
Another immediately repeated the warning.
"Monster tide!"
"Sound the alarm!"
The loud cries spread throughout the camp in an instant while deep war horns echoed one after another.
Large bronze bells rang continuously as officers rushed out of their tents and began shouting orders.
The peaceful camp that had been resting only moments earlier instantly came alive. Soldiers hurried toward their assigned positions while supply teams quickly moved wagons away from the outer defenses and knights mounted their horses before gathering near the front line.
Mages rushed toward prepared casting positions while archers climbed onto wooden platforms and defensive walls, and every person moved with remarkable discipline despite the sudden emergency.
The monster horde continued charging forward without slowing down.
Leading the charge were gigantic Iron Horn Boars whose thick black hides reflected the morning light while their enormous tusks shattered rocks and uprooted small trees as they advanced.
Every step they took caused the ground to tremble beneath them. Behind the boars came massive Stoneback Bears with bodies resembling moving boulders.
Their heavy paws crushed everything beneath them while their sharp claws dug deep grooves into the earth. Running between those giant beasts were countless Shadow Wolves that moved with terrifying speed.
They constantly changed direction while searching for openings in the defensive line and their glowing eyes remained fixed upon the soldiers ahead. High above the battlefield, dozens of Bloodwing Vultures circled through the sky before diving downward with sharp cries while several long Venom Serpents slithered silently through the grass beneath the larger monsters, making them almost impossible to notice until they were dangerously close.
The distance between both sides disappeared rapidly while the pressure continued rising.
"Hold the line!"
"Don't let them break through!"
The commanding officers raised their swords and roared their orders without hesitation. Thousands of soldiers immediately lifted their shields together while long spears pointed toward the approaching monsters. At the same moment, the archers pulled back their bowstrings.
"Fire!"
A dark cloud of arrows rose into the sky before raining down upon the charging beasts. The air became filled with sharp whistling sounds while countless arrows struck the front ranks. Several Shadow Wolves collapsed immediately and many smaller monsters rolled across the ground after being pierced, but the larger beasts barely slowed down.
The Iron Horn Boars continued charging as though they felt no pain while the Stoneback Bears simply roared and pushed through the barrage without stopping.
Moments later, the first collision arrived.
BOOOOM!
The Iron Horn Boars crashed directly into the shield wall with terrifying force. The impact echoed across the battlefield while several soldiers were thrown backward and others struggled desperately to keep their footing.
Before anyone could recover, the Stoneback Bears slammed into the line as well while their massive claws swept through the air and smashed several heavy shields into broken pieces.
The defensive formation wavered for only a brief moment before the knights rushed forward to reinforce it. Brilliant sword energy flashed repeatedly while powerful attacks forced the largest beasts away from the front ranks and gave the soldiers enough time to regroup.
Behind them, the mages completed their spells and waves of fire, lightning, and ice swept across the battlefield. Flames forced parts of the monster tide to change direction while walls of ice slowed their advance and bolts of lightning struck among the charging beasts, filling the air with thunderous explosions and flashes of bright light.
The battlefield quickly became a scene of complete confusion because monster roars mixed together with the cries of soldiers while officers continued shouting commands and medics hurried toward the wounded.
Dust rose endlessly into the air while broken weapons, shattered shields, and torn banners scattered across the ground.
Even so, the Arcadian soldiers continued holding their positions because everyone understood that allowing the monsters to break through the outer defenses would place the entire camp in danger.
Inside the command tent, Crown Prince Haster remained standing before the large battlefield map while carefully studying several reports spread across the table. His expression remained calm although his brows were slightly furrowed because he had been thinking about the strange movements of the Allied Army over the past several days.
Several senior officers stood nearby in complete silence while they waited for his next order. Just as Haster reached for another report, hurried footsteps approached from outside.
A guard rushed into the tent and immediately bowed.
"Your Highness!"
The urgent voice interrupted Haster's thoughts.
He slowly raised his head.
"What is it?"
The guard quickly lowered his head again while trying to steady his breathing.
"Your Highness... a large monster tide has suddenly appeared outside the camp and they have already begun attacking our outer defenses."
Haster's eyes instantly sharpened and the pen in his hand stopped moving. His calm expression became much colder while everyone inside the tent looked toward the messenger.
"What did you say?"
The guard instinctively trembled beneath Haster's gaze, yet he quickly gathered himself and explained everything in detail.
"The patrol units discovered them only moments ago and the monsters charged toward the camp without any warning. The outer forces have already engaged them and the battle has begun. Reports continue arriving every few minutes."
After hearing the full report, Haster quietly lowered his eyes and gently placed the pen onto the table. His fingers lightly tapped the map for several moments while countless thoughts flashed through his mind. A trace of frustration appeared on his face before he quietly clicked his tongue.
"The situation keeps getting worse."
His eyes slowly drifted toward the direction of the battlefield while his expression grew increasingly serious.
"I only hope he finishes it soon because if this continues any longer... we may be in deep trouble."
