Ethan and the ancient dragon Volcanus engage in a brutal close-quarters battle. Despite Ethan utilizing his draconic aura and powerful physical attacks, Volcanus's immense durability allows him to withstand the blows. After a prolonged exchange where Ethan sustains injuries, Volcanus lands a devastating tail sweep, sending Ethan crashing into a mountain. Ethan recovers and launches himself back into the fray, landing a powerful kick before Volcanus notices Ethan nearing his limit.

"Is this really acceptable?"

"There shouldn't be any issues, right?" Wales inquired with alarm, observing the setup before him. His hands, holding one of the scrolls, trembled slightly. He then looked back at Randall, whose anxiety was palpable.

"Arghh!"

"How would I know? I'm no mage, for crying out loud," Randall exclaimed in exasperation, running a hand through his hair.

Ethan had furnished them with several scrolls and instructed them to arrange everything, yet they remained uncertain about their execution. The primary issue was the absence of a seasoned mage, and Ethan had seemingly forgotten about the team he had assembled. Had he recalled the current predicament, he would have surely berated himself for his carelessness. He truly seemed to be in need of a photographic memory.

Meanwhile, the team grappled with the arrangement. Several scrolls were misplaced, and the runes etched on the ground flickered erratically. Wales, his gaze sweeping around nervously, suddenly froze. Concurrently, a desperate, heart-wrenching roar, accompanied by thunderous blasts and explosions, reverberated from the far side of the mountain range, sending tremors through their very beings.

Wales clenched his fists. Then, from behind a boulder, a small creature cautiously emerged. It resembled a miniature lizard, its body adorned with faint, lava-like patterns, and its eyes emitted a soft glow. It bore a striking resemblance to a tiny dragon.

Before anyone could react, Randall instinctively raised his weapon, but Wales intervened.

"Wait..."

The small lava lizard chirped softly. Wales’s brow furrowed slightly as he focused on it.

"What is it saying?" Randall asked, lowering his weapon but maintaining his guard.

"It says it can assist us, but in return, it wishes for a promise to be taken from this place," Wales replied after a brief silence.

"It seeks protection, doesn't it?" Randall questioned.

Wales nodded.

"Then give it your word."

Wales subtly lowered himself, addressing the diminutive creature.

"Very well... we promise," he stated calmly. The lava lizard chirped once more, seemingly content, and then swiftly moved ahead, commencing its guidance. It tapped specific locations on the ground with its minute claws, causing the runes to stabilize and glow more consistently. It nudged scrolls into optimal positions and even etched symbols onto the earth to complete any missing segments. Wales followed diligently, arranging the scrolls as instructed. His movements accelerated, his confidence growing as the formation’s structure began to take shape. Numerous questions swirled in his mind, but time was a luxury they did not possess.

...

Meanwhile, back on the chaotic battlefield. "Surrender, and I might grant you a swift demise," Volcanus declared with icy composure, holding an overwhelming advantage. His immense draconic eyes gleamed with avarice as he fixed them upon Ethan. Hearing this, Ethan exhaled slowly, his gaze remaining serene. "...You truly believe this is sufficient?" He offered no further words, instead unleashing a torrent of fiery breath at close range. Boom! The inferno erupted against Volcanus' face, forcing him back a step. Simultaneously, Ethan's communicator chimed, signaling the completion of the preparations. "Excellent..." a subtle spark of relief and satisfaction illuminated his eyes. Seizing the opportunity, Ethan promptly turned and fled, his form blurring as he rapidly accelerated into the distance. "Fleeing now?" "You cannot evade me." Enraged and driven by his insatiable greed, Volcanus refused to let his quarry escape. Without hesitation, he pursued Ethan at maximum velocity. Both figures became streaks of fire across the sky – one in pursuit, the other in flight. Soon, they neared a rugged, volcanic mountain range. Ethan’s eyes flickered subtly. This was the location he had meticulously prepared. Under his controlled breathing and steady demeanor, Volcanus followed, oblivious to any underlying treachery. Blinded by fury and avarice, the ancient dragon entered the area with no semblance of caution. As Ethan positioned himself at the center, he sensed the dormant connection beneath him awaken. The formation responded to his presence. He cast a swift glance, confirming the safe retreat of his allies. Then, raising his hand, he snapped his fingers. "Now." A sharp glint flashed in Ethan's eyes. Without a moment's delay, he activated the magic formation meticulously laid out beforehand. The concealed magic array within the space materialized instantly. Layers of luminous patterns rapidly expanded, coalescing into a colossal seal that enveloped the entire vicinity. In an instant, the surroundings transformed into a confined arena. A tremendous force descended, stifling Volcanus' movements. Concurrently, multiple high-tier magic formations sprang to life in unison. [Arcane Thunder Blast.] [Blood Boiling Blast.] [Ray of Obliteration.] The scrolls ignited in sequence, detonating and unleashing their stored spells.

Destructive energy beams erupted from various points, striking Volcanus from all sides simultaneously.

"Roar!"

Volcanus found himself unable to evade. The onslaught struck his body one after another, engulfing his colossal form in a series of explosions. Fire, lightning, and destructive forces converged, creating continuous detonations. Even for him, this inflicted significant damage. His roar reverberated through the sealed confinement. Yet, the assault wasn't over.

From the depths of the lava below, a colossal structure of molten rock ascended. A humanoid entity forged from compressed magma surged upwards, slamming onto Volcanus's back. It hoisted its immense fist and brought it crashing down.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Each impact was imbued with tremendous power. Driven by Ethan's command and the immense pressure built up on the battlefield, the attacks were relentless. However, Volcanus proved to be a formidable opponent.

Despite enduring numerous heavy blows, his body remained resilient. Cracks appeared on his scales, and lava mixed with blood flowed, yet his aura intensified, becoming even more ferocious. The inflicted injuries only served to awaken his primal rage.

"You believe such ruses can hold me captive?"

"You shall come to regret this."

With a furious bellow, Volcanus unleashed his full might. The surrounding flames surged violently as he forcefully broke free from the restraints. The seal quivered, then fractured and shattered.

He rose, violently flinging the lava construct from his person. At this very moment, Ethan observed intently from the perimeter of the formation, his chest heaving as he closely monitored the unfolding events. Volcanus's blazing eyes scanned the surroundings but failed to immediately pinpoint Ethan's location. With no other outlet for his wrath, he turned his attention back to the magical construct. "Then I shall obliterate everything you command."

"Roar!"

"Damn it..." Ethan cursed, channeling his mana to cast more spells as two massive attacks clashed once more.
