KNOCK! KNOCK!
Desire clouded Sophia’s thoughts. She yearned to cross that ultimate boundary, binding Ethan to her forever. Yet, right as she drew closer, a piercing knock shattered the moment.
"My Lady... it’s been some time now. Are you done?" someone inquired from beyond the door.
Ethan and Sophia went rigid. Color flooded their faces, their breathing ragged.
Gradually, they separated, gazes locked in hesitation to part. They rushed to clothe themselves, fingers shaking, the fire between them unquenched.
"My Lady... those liquids..." Ethan whispered, eyeing the saliva stains from their passionate kisses.
His look drew Sophia’s attention there, her face growing even redder. She nibbled her lip briefly before facing him, cheeks tinged with shy remorse.
"I’ll handle it," she murmured softly, voice husky. "Head out... make an excuse for why we took so long."
Her grip on his arm firmed a bit, loath to let go. She held his stare a second longer, eyes brimming with desire and sorrow. Finally, she gently urged him through the doorway.
Head Maid Nina awaited Ethan outside, fixing him with a stern, probing stare.
Panic surged in Ethan, yet he maintained his poise. "Miss Nina... Lady Sophia was weeping, wrinkling her attire. She wanted a moment alone too."
Nina’s face eased. Ethan bowed and started away, halted by her words.
"You’ve got a new assignment to another chamber. No more servants’ quarters for you from here on."
They guided Ethan to a spacious, luxurious chamber. It could swallow five typical servant rooms whole. Usually, five servants squeezed into one such space, lacking any seclusion—a pet peeve of his.
"This is your room starting today," Nina declared, then departed.
In wonder, Ethan surveyed the space. A massive bed dominated the center, flanked by a solid desk, a mana lamp, wall art, and a balcony.
The system sprang to mind, so he leaped onto the bed. "System, you around?"
[The host is bound to the System.]
[System Task is to support the host.]
Thrill lit Ethan’s eyes. At last, uselessness was behind him. At last, power to defend himself awaited. World conquest? Peaceful living beat stirring up strife. Why seek fights when strength could come from lounging?
Excitement bubbled within Ethan, but he drew a steadying breath. "Stay calm... stay calm," he whispered. Gazing forward, he queried, "System, what’s your origin? Did this world’s god dispatch you? Can they spy on me?"
[Negative.]
[The system came from the blessings of your own universe.]
"My universe?" Ethan echoed, stunned.
[ Your death was caused by an accident during quantum entanglement and spatial distortion. Normally, the world chooses certain people and sends them to other worlds to fulfill their destiny, but you ended up here by mistake. Your body passed through a spatial distortion and appeared in this world.]
"I see... no wonder my sudden arrival felt so strange."
[Whether it is a god or the universe itself, nothing escapes karma. Sending you here was a mistake by the cosmic consciousness, so it gave you this system as a form of repentance.]
"So, have I awakened the system?"
[Affirmative.]
Yet he hesitated. "Huh... is that all? Where’s the power or skills? No welcome gift or starter pack?"
[Please host and finish the process of copulation to awaken the full effect of the system.]
"Copulation..." Ethan echoed, eyes bulging.
[The system originated from a different universe. Granting significant power or allowing someone to level up could make them a target for the gods.
[After analyzing all possible scenarios, it concluded that the best way to grant you power would be through karma entanglement involving your wives and children.]
"I see."
He tsked in annoyance. He’d been mere moments from total activation.
Regret crept in for halting before. "Perhaps I should’ve gone along more eagerly, but how was I to know the system worked this way?"
He harbored no dislike for Sophia or ignorance of her affections. It just seemed messy. A commoner wedding nobility sans strength invited nonstop woes and scorn. But the system erased those fears now.
Rising, Ethan dusted off. "For your survival, step up. Praise the System God for this gift. I vow to treasure it properly."
Still, marriage proved far from straightforward.
Early the next morning, Ethan got roused from his slumber. He scarcely had time to sort his mind before being dragged off for meticulous grooming. His hair received a precise cut, his garments got straightened, and every little aspect was scrutinized like he was a precious artifact put out for show.
Soon after, he sat before an enormous stack of books piled tall upon the desk.
"Huh... all this?" he muttered in shock.
Oliver pushed up his glasses and replied steadily, "Since marriage awaits you, certain knowledge is required. These volumes cover etiquette, posture, politics, and various crucial subjects."
"What? I must study all of this?" Ethan gaped at the heap with terror in his eyes.
History, geography, or anything practical would have thrilled him to dive into. Yet this seemed utterly pointless.
He attempted to argue, but Oliver, who had reached Novice Rank Middle Stage, just seized his arm and hauled him forward, denying any shot at fleeing.
Ethan's heart plummeted.
"This is pure bullying," he mused inwardly.
Such days dragged on for a full month. Oliver sacrificed his rest while Ethan grew utterly worn out. Each dawn brought early rising for Ethan, drilling in correct bearing, mastering refined manners, and enduring nonstop lectures on nobles, their customs, and scheming politics. His skull throbbed as if ready to burst.
Yet for his prospects ahead, he clenched his jaw and persevered.
At last, the wedding day dawned.
