Due to Atlas's sudden arrival, the family organized a celebratory gathering. With the help of the household staff, the preparations were completed in no time given their large numbers.
No one wasted a single second catching up on the year they had spent apart; there were endless stories to share. From the events in Anteca to everything Atlas had experienced, the conversation was so engrossing that they lost track of time until Butler Jen ignited the fire pit.
"A camp?" Atlas tilted his head curiously before fixing his gaze on his mother. "Why on earth should I attend?"
Jessa gave a dismissive roll of her eyes. "You need to go because you, Slater, and Yugi are the ones who need it most. Perhaps even Hugo, just to ensure his wife doesn't decide to divorce him."
Atlas blinked slowly in confusion. "But why?"
"Atlas, if you truly don't want to go—" Allison started to intervene, but Jessa lifted a hand to silence her.
"Atlas, there are several reasons why this is necessary for you," Jessa explained, holding up a finger. "To begin with, your younger siblings won't be having their weddings until you've had your own. Even my own children have been using that as an excuse. Secondly, your mother is terrified that you'll squander every chance you have to find a wife."
Upon hearing this, the entire group shifted their focus toward Jessa.
"I have a bad feeling about where this is headed," Penny whispered, leaning closer to Kiara. "Do you think we should intervene?"
Kiara pursed her lips, noting the flush on Jessa’s cheeks from the beer she was downing. "I'm actually quite scared of her."
Turning to Nina, Penny and Kiara saw her offer a weak smile. She whispered back, "Me too. I’m even more terrified of her than you are."
Consequently, everyone remained silent and held their breath. Even Charles, Lester, and Haines stayed quiet, intimidated by both Jessa and Atlas. Zoren, Finn, and Yugi stayed out of the line of fire as well, hoping the conversation wouldn't take the turn they anticipated. Meanwhile, Allen, Benjamin, Slater, and Mint simply observed the scene with curiosity.
"Are you suggesting I'll be alone even when I'm older than Dad?" Atlas asked in a flat tone. "What makes everyone so certain I'll remain single forever?"
"Goodness." Jessa let out a scoff, crossing her arms as she leaned back.
Her intimidating posture made everyone swallow hard, reaching for their drinks to ease the tension in their throats. Then, the very words they dreaded escaped her lips.
"Atlas, how can you be so brilliant and yet so oblivious?" she pressed on. "Just look at you! You are the eldest, yet at your age, you are still a virgin!"
Gasps filled the air; some nearly choked on their beverages while all eyes darted toward Atlas. To their immense shock, Atlas remained unfazed. He appeared perfectly calm, showing none of the vengeful aura he usually displayed when provoked.
"Am I hallucinating?" Charles whispered softly, rubbing his eyes. "He isn't angry?"
Then, Atlas delivered a cold, level-headed response;
"Who told you I was still a virgin?"
"What?!" The collective gasp of disbelief was deafening. Jessa’s eyes looked as though they might pop out. "HUH?! You aren't—when?! While you were abroad?! Do you have a secret girlfriend?!"
"Wasn't the topic virginity rather than a partner?" Atlas tilted his head, his gaze shifting toward Penny.
Detecting his look, Penny furrowed her brow. "Why are you staring at me..." Her voice trailed off as the realization struck. Her jaw dropped in shock.
"First Brother, you don't mean—"
"How else do you imagine I survived that night you poisoned us?" Atlas nonchalantly looked away from his sister and glanced at Grace. Seeing Grace’s prominent baby bump, he let out a sigh. "While I'm pleased to have a little cousin arriving soon, I'm still processing the fact that Uncle Haines took first place in this race."
As Atlas raised his wine glass, the rest of the family sat in a stunned daze.
What did he just admit?
Ignoring the ranking he had mentioned, had he just indirectly confessed to having a one-night stand?
Atlas raised an eyebrow, noting that even Allen was staring at him in total shock.
"Your mouths," he remarked to the group. "They are hanging open too wide."
Nobody moved, still paralyzed by the revelation. The heavy silence was eventually broken by the frantic voice of Butler Jen.
"Sir Atlas!" Butler Jen was gasping for air as if he had just finished a marathon.
Everyone turned to look. Seeing the butler’s ghostly pale face, their brows knit together. Before anyone could inquire about the crisis, Butler Jen spoke in a panic.
"You must see this immediately, Sir Atlas!"
---
Various theories raced through everyone's minds regarding Butler Jen’s urgency, particularly those aware of Atlas’s business dealings. Even Atlas felt a flicker of concern, as it was rare for Butler Jen to lose his composure so completely.
But then—
"EH?!"
The shock was so great the entire mansion seemed to shake as their voices rang through the lobby. Faces turned pale as eyes widened and mouths fell open.
Placed upon the wide coffee table were two baskets. Each one held a baby, and they appeared to be identical twins. One infant had thick, furrowed brows, resembling a grumpy elderly man in a tiny body. The other, a girl, possessed sharp eyes and a cold expression, looking as though she were already weary of the world despite being a newborn.
"There is a note," Butler Jen panted, presenting the letter. He handed it to Atlas. The envelope read:
[To: Atlas Bennet]
"That is all it says," he added. "They are for you, First Young Master."
The group's shock deepened, their eyes darting back and forth between Atlas and the infants on the table. The more they observed, the more the family resemblance became undeniable.
"Oh, my heavens," Allison whispered, clutching her heart as she looked at the babies. She covered her mouth, seeing the stunned expressions of everyone else.
"Heh," Atlas leaned forward to inspect the infants before smirking. He shot a triumphant look toward Haines and Grace. "I retract my previous statement. It appears you weren't the first placer after all."
He then looked down at the babies in their baskets. "I ought to enroll them in college as quickly as possible."
Everyone: "!!!"
