Others Summon Dragons, I Summon Legendary Knights Chapter 5: Vengeful Upperclassman Sam

Reflecting on the recent events, Godfrey brought to mind the details of his summon.
The supreme Knight-Captain from the Sword and Shield unit—the finest among them. A loyal soldier bound by oath to the Golden Order. Transformed alchemically to hunt down monstrous beasts. He brandishes a fifty-pound sword, a hundred-pound shield, and armor that weighs one hundred and fifty pounds. In Black-Out State, this Knight-Captain surpasses his core strength boundaries, reaches superior levels, and copies the powers of his enemies.
'Alchemically altered to slay monstrous beasts...' His eyes gradually widened as the realization dawned on him. The knights he summoned originated from an order crafted expressly to tackle beast-centric dangers—and most summons are indeed beasts. After all, they mostly stem from dungeon-dwelling creatures.
With the passage of time, human souls started bringing these creatures to life inside them. Yet their foundations, their very beginnings, were forever linked to dungeon gates.
"You're strolling alongside a girl yet your thoughts wander elsewhere? You're really something, Godfrey."
Isolde's voice sliced through his musings like sunlight breaking through fog. He glanced to his right, where his ocean-blue eyes connected with the golden-orange ones of the enchanting girl at his side. She held her white backpack in one hand, a subtle smile playing on her lips.
"No lasting harm was done," she assured him, seemingly reading his mind. "Didn't you catch the combat instructor mentioning the nurse fixed the crab's claw back on?"
Godfrey nodded deliberately. "I truly didn't anticipate that outcome."
"Your face told me as much." Isolde's eyes narrowed a bit. "I was shocked myself. Watching a 3.0 summon utterly dominate a 3.1... truly remarkable. Your knight's movements were polished, exact, with no unnecessary actions. It wasn't like the typical sloppy attacks from low-tier summons. That led me to figure something out." She cocked her head. "Your summon possesses intelligence, right?"
"Maybe," Godfrey replied with a nonchalant shrug.
Isolde tsked and gave his shoulder a gentle push. "Quit playing so superior."
The school day was over, with students heading off to their dorms in all directions. Godfrey figured Isolde would go to hers as well, but then a glossy black car glided up in front, honking twice. A man in a suit got out and bowed while opening the rear door.
"Miss Isolde."
Godfrey raised an eyebrow. "You don't live in the dorm?"
She shook her head while smoothing her hair. "My parents arranged with school officials for me to stay in a private apartment off-campus. Not sure how much longer that'll hold, though. Catch you tomorrow." She waved goodbye as the car door closed, and it drove off.
Godfrey blinked, sighed deeply, and made his way to the boys' dorms. His thrill was building; he longed to dive back into his soul space and investigate the palace he'd briefly seen.
The intricate carvings on the second door might reveal its hidden contents. Plus, today's clash showed him that Mountain's armor surpassed regular steel, boasting unique traits like the shield's reflective power.
Countless secrets begged to be unveiled.
Absorbed in his reverie and moving at a leisurely pace, Godfrey saw the campus walkway turn eerily still. Nearly all students had vanished—to their rooms, fixated on phones, or chatting with buddies. That made the figure ahead stand out sharply.
One student propped against the wall with crossed arms. He seemed more mature, around seventeen or eighteen, likely a third-year. Their stares locked, and Godfrey instantly detected the raging fury in the young man's eyes.
As Godfrey approached, the senior cracked his neck.
"I heard you weren't a summoner, so we passed you over. Nobody bothered giving you the real welcome to the boys' turf." The student smirked, blocking his way.
Godfrey relaxed his stance. "What's your problem?" When would this foolishness finally cease?
Fury warped the third-year's face. "You summoned that pathetic humanoid... and had the nerve to swing your junk knight's blade at my sister's crab!" His fist tightened, igniting a summoning array next to him. A golden-armored beast appeared, curling into a shiny wheeled form.
"You'll regret it."
The Iron-Scaled Armadillo lunged ahead, coiling its form into a whirling golden orb. Almost instantly, it compacted from human size to basketball dimensions, its velocity surging threefold. Streaking like lightning, it crashed into Godfrey before he could respond. The force launched him airborne, sending him tumbling. He crashed onto the ground, rolling fiercely until he came to a grinding halt.
This was an Iron-Scaled Armadillo. Current Tier 4.0. A creature renowned for unmatched defense and velocity.
This beast proved even more dangerous. Flames erupted from its armored form, fire dancing over its scales. Beyond mere speed and durability, it now possessed elemental attacks.
Sam, the third-year student, towered above him with a cruel smirk. His arm shimmered as scales crawled across his skin, encasing his entire forearm in the creature’s steel-tough plating. "You’re dead." He lifted his taloned fist.
Just before the strike could land, a golden array flared next to Godfrey. Mountain surged forward, blade already swinging. His sideways cut compelled Sam to swap spots with his summon, blinking out of sight and rematerializing where the beast stood. The armadillo intercepted the blow instead.
Sparks sprayed as Mountain’s sword clashed against its metallic scales. The creature countered with savage power, claws wreathed in fire. Mountain barely hoisted his shield in time, yet the impact pulverized the ground below, hauling him back in a scraping furrow of rock and grit.
From behind, Sam laughed menacingly. His summon reared up, fiery talons slashing down. Godfrey rolled aside at the last moment, the blistering heat charring the air over his head. His heart clenched tight. A third-year... an elite-tier summon... Mountain had no hope of prevailing in his present condition.
Only one choice remained.
’Use Black-Out State. Now.’
Godfrey’s thoughts roared the command as the blazing claws plunged once more. A fierce wind suddenly whipped through the street, ruffling his hair.
Mountain was the origin.
The knight’s armor, no longer golden, now shone deep crimson, his longsword dark as obsidian, his shield tinted like clotted blood. He loomed with an ominous presence, his own flames kindling across his frame.
With a thunderous clash of metal, Mountain barreled ahead. The seven-foot warrior slammed into the armadillo, crushing it against the wall until fissures spidered over the pale stone.
The beast wailed as Mountain’s blaze roared hotter, more ferociously, outstripping the armadillo’s own inferno in fury.
Sam’s sneer evaporated. His summon sought to curl into a ball, activating its mightiest defense, but Mountain showed no mercy. He hammered his shield with devastating might, shattering the posture, then poised his sword for the lethal thrust.
"Stop!" Sam shrieked. All color fled his face.
The tide of battle flipped in under five seconds.
That knight... his strength hadn’t simply surged. He had replicated the armadillo’s flames.
Mountain wheeled from the defeated beast, his boots echoing on the stone, blood-red helmet swiveling toward Godfrey. The obsidian blade angled downward, crimson shield held firm at his flank.
As if questioning, What is your order?
