Ema confronts Kenji Takeda, the former young lord of Takeda Island, about the demon plaguing the land. Kenji reveals his clan was destroyed by the demon and expresses fear of the dangerous Black Sea, refusing to help. However, when Godfrey and Ken prepare to steal his boat, Kenji surprisingly agrees to take them to the island, admitting he is not infected.

The last phase of their journey began. Godfrey and Ken sat in the boat as it traversed the Black Sea. As the land slightly faded into the distance, they were welcomed by a grayish-black fog.

Godfrey looked around. Right now, the fog around them was light, so he could still see, and the sun was just setting, but up ahead was a massive, endless fog looming with such oppressive might.

They slowly grew closer and closer until they were beneath the fog. At that moment, there was no more sun. Darkness engulfed the entire place, and the lantern at the front of the boat became their only source of light.

Ken stood up, staring at the fog that looked like the clouds were just above their heads. He leaped, vanishing into the fog, then landed.

When Godfrey saw Ken shaking his head, he frowned. "I can see it wasn't a good experience."

"I felt lost," Ken responded. "I even forgot that I jumped. It's like being in a dream. It all seems real to you until you're out. That's…" Ken sat down.

"...a very uncomfortable experience."

Godfrey nodded. "I see. That's why Ballista couldn't return." He turned to Kenji.

"How long will it take for us to get to the island?"

"Three days," Kenji replied.

"How long has this demon been here?" Ken asked.

"It's been twelve years now. I was twenty when it came. I'm thirty-two now."

Ken wrote down Kenji's reply in his diary, then he found a comfortable spot and flipped through his past pages, where he drew the village they went to, the monster Godfrey killed, and the Two Faced Lady.

All these black sketches had notes all around them.

'Takeda Island is where the main boss resides. A certain fog hides this island, and it can make anyone (anymore), even a demigod, lose their senses. Once in, no one can remember their way out or how they got there. Highly dangerous. Exceptional for protection.'

After writing, he began to sketch the fog. Time trickled by. The boat moved through the water in silence.

Ken glanced at Godfrey and saw him under the thatched roof, leaning on a column, his eyes closed.

He flipped the pages of his diary back to where he wrote Godfrey Daniels.

'Godfrey Daniels is more complicated than what I've heard. From his statements, he can be considered to be the type that cares but might be at the verge of breaking due to unknown traumas.'

Ken lowered his pen. 'Although I'm stuck between my duty to my nation and my morals, the true question is: will I remain me if I kill him? And if I don't, what happens to my patriotism?'

His eyes flickered.

"I fight for our nation because I love my motherland. I know not everyone is good. The government might be corrupt, for all I care, but I can't abandon the people to them. If I can make a difference, I will."

Ken remembered his older brother's words.

'I will too!!'

He remembered his young voice. It echoed in his ears like he had just said it.

'Will the people of Japan benefit if Godfrey Daniels dies? He knows Cain, and Cain said they were the same...'

After writing down this part, he paused, his pen trembling.

"Seasick?" Godfrey's voice rang, forcing Ken to lift up his head and turn back. He was at the front of the boat, Kenji was at the back, while Godfrey sat in the middle.

He thought he was sleeping, but Ken wasn't so sure anymore.

"I'm not. I just have a question."

"Let me guess. It's about Cain." The moment Godfrey said that, Ken turned and sat facing him.

"What does he mean by both of you are the same?"

Godfrey didn't answer. He shut his eyes, and when it seemed like he wasn't going to say a word, Ken turned away.

"I'm telling you this because I don't want us to fight. I've killed so many people. I really don't want to kill more."

Ken tilted his head.

Godfrey's eyes were open once more. He stared at the thatched roof. "There are selected beings in each world. They're called Favoured Ones, Chosen Ones, and Fortunate Ones. You see, Fortunate Ones have the greatest numbers, and you might be one of them. Then there are Chosen Ones and Favoured Ones, both of whom have a more direct relationship with the mana tree. Cain is a Favoured One. He isn't bound by laws, but I'm a Chosen One. I'm bound by burdens."

Godfrey tilted his head toward him. "Now that you know the basics, Cain isn't a human being, he wasn't one of the lifeforms created during the dawn of life when all creations were formed… and neither was I."

Ken frowned. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"I don't know about Cain, but in my case, my mother is the mana tree. The being that created this dungeon we're in, gave you that summon, mana itself. I don't know what else to call it. It got a body on Earth and produced her best experiment yet… me."

"You see, Ken, my life has been planned before my birth. My enemies, allies. The only thing she wants of me is to become something never seen before. I either do that or die and become a summon for Cain. That's the summary of my life."

"Elating, isn't it? I'm the son of the most powerful concept." He forced a smile. "I guess being chosen is always fun."

Ken was beyond shocked, but he could feel the sadness beneath every word Godfrey spoke.

"I mean, you feel a bit of the same. Your leg."

When Godfrey said that, Ken looked at his right leg.

"I guess strength doesn't really have a cost. It just changes things. Every state — weak, strong, poor, or rich, has a problem. We're just carrying ours." Ken released his grip on the katana he had been holding all this time.

This place was the only place he had the advantage of winning against Godfrey. But he was giving it up.

However, in the next moment, a centipede latched onto his back. Ken lunged to his feet, ripped the centipede off his armour, and plunged his katana through its head.

Godfrey also rose to his feet as he saw centipedes emerging from every side of the boat, and more were beginning to show their backs on the surface of the Black Sea.
