Lucy struggles to fix a monstrous vehicle while grappling with the loss of her summon and her place among friends. An elder tries to guide her, but she retreats to her work. She is then summoned to the tower and tasked with organizing books, only to be confronted by Gabriel, the "Watchman," who seems to know her fears. Godfrey and Percival arrive, finding Lucy with Gabriel and the books, and as they all begin shelving, Gabriel ominously declares "The Ruination is here."

Even after they departed from the Watchtower, Percival lingered near Lucy until she finally returned home. Once inside her room, Lucy went to retrieve her headset. She picked it up, took a step towards the door, but then stopped, turning back towards the window.

Approaching the window, she pulled the curtain aside to reveal a young man with blue hair standing across the street. He was leaning against the wall of an opposite building, his arms crossed.

Lucy's eyes widened gradually in pure surprise. Percival happened to glance towards the window just then, his gaze meeting hers. A smile spread across his face, and he offered a small wave.

Unable to resist, she smiled and returned the wave. Unlocking the window, she slid it open. "It's getting late. You should head home now," her voice carried out onto the deserted street. The hour was already past seven, and this section of Paradise lacked any events that would keep people out so late.

This was strictly a residential district.

He crossed the road, positioned himself directly beneath her window, and looked up. "I'll see you tomorrow, then."

Lucy leaned against the windowsill, her gaze fixed on him as he walked away. Her eyes followed him until he completely disappeared from view.

"Lucy!"

Suddenly, her mother's voice called out her name. Lucy took one last look outside before closing the window and leaving the room. As she descended the final flight of stairs, her entire body turned rigid upon seeing Gabriel seated at their dining table.

When... had he arrived?

Her heart began to pound erratically.

"Sit down," her mother instructed, placing their dinner on the table and gesturing to a chair. Her mother's cheeks were flushed, and her eyes shone with excitement. It was an extraordinary honor for the Watchman, a figure practically considered a myth, to grace their home with his presence.

He had simply materialized out of thin air, carrying a basket of fruit and a book on engineering mechanics.

Under her mother's expectant gaze, Lucy felt compelled to take a seat at the table, despite her reluctance. As she sat, her eyes quickly found Gabriel's face.

He wore a warm, innocent smile that nearly made her question everything Isolde had said.

Clearing his throat, he picked up his cutlery and began to eat. "Wow," his eyes lit up, eliciting a pleased smile from her mother.

"Truly, wow. I haven't tasted anything this delicious in ages," Gabriel exclaimed, then looked directly at her. "Why aren't you eating?"

Lucy flinched, prompting Gabriel to raise an eyebrow. She hesitantly picked up her own cutlery. 'I'm finished,' she thought.

Lucy wished desperately to wake from this terrible dream. What could it all possibly mean? She longed for it to be a mere nightmare, but if it were, wouldn't that also mean the kindness Percival had shown her was just a figment of her imagination?

She felt utterly torn.

Both Gabriel and her mother finished their meals, yet Lucy hadn't even managed to eat half of hers. How could she possibly have an appetite when the very man responsible for the violent deaths of millions, all to ensure their subservience, was sitting right beside her?

She abruptly rose from her chair. Using telepathic speech was impossible, as all such communication was routed through Gabriel. In Paradise, Gabriel served as the conduit for all telepathic transmissions.

"Where are you going? I came here specifically for you," Gabriel stated, halting her movement instantly.

Turning to her mother, Gabriel inquired, "Has she been concealing this from you as well?"

"Concealing what?"

"She has lost her summon." Gabriel's declaration caused her mother to snap her head towards Lucy, her expression filled with profound shock.

Lucy stiffened. Due to her current weakness, individuals like Godfrey and Percival would naturally overlook her absence of aura, dismissing it as too faint for their perception. Furthermore, others of her general tier lacked the ability to discern such things. So, how had Gabriel, a being at the apex of power, discovered her secret?

She had failed to consider that Gabriel was not, in fact, human. This fundamental misconception had led her entire analysis astray.

"Lucy… how? What happened? Why didn't you tell me? When did this occur?" Her mother's voice trembled, unable to muster the strength to stand as she looked at her daughter's pale face.

"There's no need for alarm. I am here to rectify the situation. She has been incredibly helpful to the Cohort, and many individuals have spoken highly of her. Lacking a summon is a minor inconvenience," Gabriel reassured them.

Hearing Gabriel dismiss something that could determine the entire course of one's life as a 'minor inconvenience' significantly elevated her mother's perception of him. That single statement transformed him in her eyes into a truly god-like entity.

Only beings of such stature could speak so casually about such matters. Not even the demigods would dare make such a bold claim.

"Come to the Watchtower tomorrow morning," Gabriel said with a smile before departing. While her mother saw him out, Lucy fled to her room, slamming the door shut, her heart pounding in her chest.

It felt as though the very foundations of her world were collapsing. A chilling fear gripped her, making her fingers and toes feel like ice.

She couldn't remain here any longer. It wasn't safe. It was no longer feasible to maintain this silence, especially now that this man was suddenly showing an interest in her.

'I have to tell her. We can go to Percy's place together, and then we'll meet up at Godfrey's house,' she thought, but then vigorously shook her head.

If her mother were to find out, she would surely become Cain's next target. It hardly mattered whether Lucy herself believed it or not.

After some contemplation, Lucy resolved to depart that very night. The lateness of the hour was irrelevant; seeking assistance was paramount.

With this determination, she slipped into her bed and lay down. Not long after, her mother entered the room, noticing the extinguished lights.

She flipped the switch, illuminating the room to find Lucy fast asleep.

'She's unusually composed. I had anticipated she'd be too thrilled to sleep,' her mother mused internally, switching off the light again and quietly closing the door.

The instant Lucy registered the sound, her eyes flew open.

She sat bolt upright, only for her eyes to widen dramatically as she found herself situated on the uppermost level of the Watchtower. Her bedsheet was draped over her legs, while Gabriel stood leaning against the wall near his telescope, hands shoved into his pockets, gazing directly at her.

Lucy remained utterly still, frozen in place.

Gabriel withdrew his hands from his pockets, let out a breath, and calmly advanced towards her. He towered over her before slowly crouching down.

"You fear me." His resonant voice reverberated throughout the tower.

He leaned in closer. "Why?"
