A shift occurred.
The knight vanished, replaced by a colossal brown bear whose fur, from its elbows to its back, mimicked licking flames, each section marked with a distinct rune. This enormous bear, nearly thirty feet in height, possessed glowing fiery eyes and razor-sharp flaming claws, complemented by a bushy, wolf-like tail.
Instantly upon its arrival, the bear radiated an intense heat that caused a significant portion of the surrounding water to evaporate, transforming into swirling mist. The beast unleashed a thunderous roar.
A wave of pure sound impacted the spectators, with some momentarily losing their hearing. Simultaneously, a ring of fire erupted around the arena, converting the watery stage into a fiery circle.
Confronting Percival and his summoned creatures, the Rune Flame Bear bared its formidable fangs. The very earth quaked as it charged forward.
Leviathan surged ahead, a beastly confrontation initiated. It spewed forth a torrent of water, to which the Rune Flame Bear retaliated with a blinding burst of fire. Flames coalesced into a ring around its maw before the fire erupted outwards with incredible intensity, resembling a concentrated beam.
The violent clash of fire and water sent shockwaves through the colosseum, so powerful they seemed to threaten its very foundations.
Both colossal beings pressed their attack, drawing ever closer until they were within striking distance. Abaddon raised a massive, flaming paw and delivered a devastating blow to Leviathan.
The impact sent Leviathan crashing to the ground with a thunderous boom. Roaring in defiance, Leviathan lunged for the bear's head, but Abaddon deftly seized its lower and upper jaws, halting its advance.
In a display of fury, Leviathan began to rapidly expand, growing to a size far surpassing the bear's capabilities. King, with a powerful thrust of his trident, refilled the arena with water while Percival finally broke his silence.
"Will Freeze."
The instant the command was uttered, both King and Levi focused their abilities, 'Will Freeze', upon Abaddon. Simultaneously, thick chains of water materialized, ensnaring the bear's limbs.
"Abaddon..." Saul's voice resonated within the black knight's mind.
"Do not fail me. You are superior to this, so defeat him." Saul's resolute command echoed, igniting a brighter glow in the knight's fiery eyes.
Every rune etched upon the bear's form blazed with intense red light, transforming its fur into a mottled blend of red and brown. Its flames surged with increased heat as it unleashed another powerful blast, incinerating the surrounding water.
"Levi… don't swallow him—!" Percival's eyes widened in alarm as his leviathan nearly engulfed Abaddon, but he managed to restrain it at Percival's urgent warning.
The bear plunged its fiery claws into Leviathan's own, pushing back with immense force as it raised its head towards Leviathan's, which had neared its two-hundred-meter limit.
Leviathan's colossal form coiled above, tightening its grip, yet an opening remained. The bear unleashed its fiery breath. The exhalation sounded like a bomb detonating.
A searing beam of fire erupted from its mouth, striking Leviathan's jaw, scorching half its face and obliterating the protective barrier. The fiery beam ascended further, piercing the clouds above and disappearing from sight.
Despite its head vaporizing the clouds both above and beyond the colosseum, Percival recalled his leviathan upon witnessing its fiery downfall, smoke billowing from its head. King seized the opportunity to advance.
He had transformed into his water form, his size now matching Abaddon's bear-like transformation.
The sea king's trident managed a shallow pierce, but Abaddon seized it, growling from his exhaustion. King could discern the bear's fatigue; it panted heavily and its strength waned, yet flames still crackled around it.
A significant portion of the audience rose to their feet, their gazes locked as the two summoned beasts glared at each other. Abaddon allowed flames to lick King's body, while King countered by forming water chains that dug deeply into the massive bear's form.
Percival stood contemplating; one 'Will Freeze' would secure his victory, but it risked Abaddon's annihilation.
Levi was already in critical condition and time was rapidly running out.
More spectators stood with each passing second, their hearts pounding in unison, some struggling for breath, others with eyes wide, afraid to miss a single moment of the unfolding spectacle.
"ENOUGH!" A voice of immense power boomed throughout the colosseum, shattering the collective absorption of the audience. All heads turned towards the golden-haired man positioned behind the portcullis.
Godfrey's breath hitched, trembling as it escaped his lips. The portcullis groaned under an unseen pressure, as if threatening to buckle.
"Heed my words… obey your king and stand down." he commanded, leaving the crowd bewildered.
"King? What nonsense! Do as I command you."
Saul rose to his feet, observing Abaddon's hesitation. Apollyon tilted her head, witnessing Abaddon revert to his normal form and withdraw from the sea king's presence.
An unnerving silence descended upon the colosseum.
He dropped to one knee, bracing himself with his axe, and slowly lowered his head in a gesture of submission.
Apollyon's grip tightened on her staff. Godfrey stepped away from the portcullis, retreated, and took a seat on the bench, saying nothing more.
"You are redeemed. I still need your services." His voice was low. Abaddon trembled slightly, nodding gently for them to see. 'I know you have slain countless. I know there's a mountain of corpses, innocent ones cut down by you, but today I tell you, there is a king, an unfathomable king who still requires someone like you. Your services… are still needed.' An Alchemist's voice resonated in Abaddon's mind. Yes… this was he. The king. It wasn't what he had envisioned, but it was indeed him. But first, before his departure. He cast a glance at Apollyon, then at the Sea King. "It's a draw!" As his words echoed, before the spectators' astonished eyes, Abaddon turned to stone and shattered into fleeting embers until nothing remained. "T… the match…" The announcer looked towards Saul. Was his knight deceased? Had it taken its own life? "It's a draw," he declared, yet the crowd remained stunned into silence by the abrupt turn of events. No one had foreseen this… least of all Saul.
