Upon hearing the words of the impostor Gang Leader, Fang Yu acknowledged that this individual possessed a surprising amount of foresight and capability. He then mused that without such abilities, how could this person have maintained the charade for so many years undetected? Furthermore, not only did he avoid discovery, but the Forest Snake Gang appeared to flourish year after year, showing remarkable development. Fang Yu considered this a rare and valuable management talent, lamenting the real boss's lack of vision. If this person were on Blue Star, he’d likely be immediately hired as a general manager for a company, complete with stock options to guide its trajectory. This, Fang Yu thought, was the essence of allowing professionals to handle specialized tasks!
"You've described the middle strategy; what about the upper strategy?" Fang Yu inquired further.
"The upper strategy," the impostor replied, "is essentially waiting for our demise. That individual contacts me periodically. While I don't meet him directly, I do interact with his subordinates. If we can apprehend the contact person, tracing them back to him becomes a straightforward matter."
Fang Yu grasped the implication of the 'upper strategy.' It was indeed a secure and convenient approach, albeit excessively passive. The uncertainty of when the next contact might occur was a significant drawback. Moreover, Fang Yu's recent infiltration of the gang could raise suspicions, potentially alerting their adversary. Considering these factors, the upper strategy seemed less than ideal.
Rubbing his forehead, Fang Yu admitted to himself that intricate scheming wasn't his forte. He much preferred direct, forceful methods: be told a location, go there, eliminate the target, and be done with it. However, with the initial steps already in motion, he had no choice but to proceed with the fake leader's plan, taking things one careful step at a time.
"Very well, we shall proceed with your plan. I am now within the gang, so you needn't worry. Should any issues arise, I will be the first to respond and ensure that any hidden threats are neutralized for you." The person before him was a formidable ally, possessing strength enough to overwhelm the Four Great Hall Masters. This offered significant reassurance to the impostor Gang Leader.
"In that case, I shall not disturb your rest, sir. I will continue my observation of the Hall Masters, looking for any potential puppets, and will report immediately if anything transpires!" With that, the impostor Gang Leader discreetly withdrew. Silence reclaimed the room as Ding Hui entered, a bright smile gracing her face as she approached Fang Yu.
She placed her hands behind her back, stood on her tiptoes, and tilted her head upwards, gazing at him with a playful smile. "Is this what you meant by having already settled the Forest Snake Gang?"
Fang Yu averted his gaze. Wasn't it practically settled? Only the final piece remained. Observing Fang Yu's reaction, Ding Hui's smile widened. Straightening her posture, she turned and leaned back, her supple body pressing against Fang Yu. "I had assumed you had truly resolved everything. But now, seeing this, the problem is far from small; it's not quite as you initially described."
Fang Yu conceded that he had indeed oversimplified the situation earlier, suggesting that eliminating the true leader of the Forest Snake Gang would resolve all matters. However, devising a method to eliminate this elusive individual presented the next formidable challenge. While Fang Yu was deep in thought, Ding Hui suddenly extended her right hand, catching his attention.
"What is this?" Fang Yu asked, taken aback. In the palm of Ding Hui's hand was a minuscule black mosquito. "It's something left behind by that fellow who controlled insects previously," she explained.
The insect was alive but appeared incapable of flight, crawling sluggishly within Ding Hui's palm, unable to escape her grasp even as she subtly shifted her fingers. "The puppets have their unique methods, and we must devise our own countermeasures. The true leader of the Forest Snake Gang, given his reliance on a stand-in, is likely not unintelligent. We must remain vigilant. Perhaps ever since we infiltrated the Forest Snake Gang, we have been under his constant surveillance, and he could dispatch an assassin at any moment," Ding Hui cautioned.
Yet, Fang Yu harbored a contrary thought: it would be beneficial if the enemy chose to attack openly. After all, an adversary lurking in the shadows posed the greatest threat. "Worry not, whoever comes will perish," Fang Yu declared with conviction.
This declaration of unwavering confidence prompted Ding Hui to roll her eyes. She gently blew on the tiny mosquito in her hand, causing it to waver through the air before quickly returning to her palm after a single circuit. Fang Yu looked on in surprise. "You can control insects too??"
"No," Ding Hui replied, blinking her eyes. While she lacked the ability to directly control insects, her extensive background in biological research provided her with a profound understanding of their mechanics. She could rapidly discern the structure, habitat, and behavioral patterns of such creatures. So-called insect control, she reasoned, was merely a matter of influencing them through food, sound, or other environmental stimuli. Although Ding Hui couldn't manage intricate commands, she believed she could execute basic maneuvers like flight once she grasped the mosquito's physiological structure.
Currently, she knew that this dark mosquito species was rather tame and wouldn't employ its slightly poisonous mouthpart against other beings unless provoked.
With just a few adjustments from Ding Hui's fingers, its directional sense was thrown off, compelling it to navigate according to its natural instincts.
Nevertheless, this particular insect had already been subdued by Ding Hui, leaving its energy significantly drained. Consequently, after a short flight, it returned to repose upon her fingertip.
"This creature is quite stealthy. Once I grasp its anatomical makeup, I can determine if basic nerve stimulation enables remote manipulation. From there, we'll be able to gather intel on any activities within the gang independently."
This was essentially the foundation of her information-gathering system.
Fang Yu raised no objections, yet the minuscule mosquito appeared utterly devoid of intellect. While Fang Yu could comprehend how an insect-commanding Martial Artist might exert control over it, Ding Hui's peculiar surgical alteration felt somewhat unconventional...
